Idk how sso many wow players don’t use wasd to move, and instead use mouse. I have an mmo mouse, so I use the 12 on the side, and the two dpi buttons are binded and scroll wheel is my racial.
I use 1 poly, 2 pot, 3 curse, 4 5 6 are markers.
Then e kick, q icy, r ebon, t lust, c cone, f block, g reset dcd, x switch Target
I use 1-7 for attack abilities, 8-10 for interupts, stuns etc andall my offensive and defensive cooldowns are on an action bar above my attacks. All clicked. I move with the mouse.
I don’t think you’re a noob for that. I use 1-6, R, T ,C, V, `, F1 - F4, and then I bind 12 buttons on my mouse plus two on the top and middle mouse button.
As long as you can perform and do your job properly within the content you enjoy doing, that’s all that matters.
I use just 12345 and the rest of what I need are bound to the 12+ buttons of my G600 lol
I use 1-=, as well as a custom bar above it. Seems I have had enough binds until maybe the unprune. Luckily that stuff is looking so unbelievably situational on warlock I’m thinking I can reserve most of them for clicking.
I have about 20 individual keybinds, I refuse to do the ctrl thing because my dexterity goes down by half if I need to find and correctly press two buttons at once. I honestly don’t know how people do it, tried it to make my pet attack in classic, immediately made a macro. I generally have a hand on the mouse at all times, and I’m no finger juggler to try to hit both with one hand.
What a strange binds lol. I use I O K L for the easy ones, and alt 7, control J, shift U and F12 for specific spells.
Out of jokes, thats what I use (unbinded keys are just to track cds or fill bars, unseen spells are with mods on shift/ctrl):

Movement with QSE + right button of mouse to camera.
I use 1-0 key binds as well as f1-f0 with my left hand and move with the mouse, like a normal person.
I use the numbers for almost all of mine, with alt modifiers like (alt+1, ctl+1) so I can reuse them. But I don’t play from a keyboard either. I have a Razer Tartarus and custom bind it’s keys to make it easier to use odd key combinations.
I hate to sound like a snob but I love my keybinds and everyone that has copied mine has given it two thumbs up.
I use a naga mouse
1 2 3 are the only keys I use in combat 4 and beyond are all on my mouse.
1 is always for interrupts
2 for an aoe place meant or leap
3 for anything that does a rush or dash to the enemy
Number pad arrows 8462
It’s embarrassing to admit, but I’m a clicker.
Works for me
Before I switched to playing full-time with an Xbox controller I used 1-4, R, F, G, T, V, with Shift and Alt modifiers on all of those keys.
Im sure using whatever keybinds make it easier for you is fine. I also use the default numbers like you.
1 2 3 4 5 6 for normal rotation
q e r t f g c v for utility/less used abilities
f1 f2 f3 f4 f5 for cool downs
shift 1 shift 2 shift 3 etc for targeting
Shift q e r t f g c v for anything else left over like pvp trinket and such.
Of course not. I still use default UI and some basic keybinds, 1-6. Call me a heretic, but for any other button out of reach, I just click it, while also doing my key rotations. I’m just too lazy to make easier keybinds, and now I’ve gotten complacent with this overly-complex system.
At the end of the day, do what you find fun and best for your playstyle. Nothing wrong with changing it up, nothing wrong with keeping it the same.
End of the day, if the boss goes down, you’re not dead, and you’re not bringing the group down, who cares how the sausage is made?
Sure, you could probably do better if you took the time to remap, rearrange, and relearn, but… how many people here use anything other than Qwerty?
And of the day, if your system works. great. If you’re really interested in improving your system, even better. But don’t look at it as an obligation.
I’ll still routinely refactor my macros and update my UI to make it more convenient, more usable, cleaner, and more uniform between characters if I can.
Why do I need two macros to swap between each spec I play? Make it one. Why does “equip set” and “ensure you’re buffed” need to be separate when I always want both things active? Yes, I can fold these abilities under the same button with a few modifiers. I can hotkey my mount to my mouse when not in combat - why don’t I? Are all procs. covered by Weak Auras? Sure would be nice if I could drop Death and Decay at my feet without needing to deal with the reticle.
You can almost always improve your interface and UI, but to me, that’s not a deficiency - that’s progress to be celebrated.
My setup is weird because I have the logitech keyboard with the extra G-keys and they are bound to 6, 9 and 0.
Beyond that I use tilde and 1-5 with shift and alt modifiers for my general rotation, CDs and utility.
I never even considered 1-4 keybinds being noobish, that’s literally what they are for.
I took this pic for another reason but it works here. You can see what i have bound on each key. It looks out of wack but I promise its all smooth on the key presses because of the G-keys. When this keyboard breaks I might be screwed lol.

Nope. Use whatever binds work best for you.
No, I still use it as my default and have since the game was released.
Whatever works for you and whatever is most comfortable.
I use 1-6 and F1-F4 (or F5) and maybe a few Ctrl+ for infrequently used things, but mostly if they are that infrequently used, clicking works, too. 1-4 (or 5/6) will be the core, F1-F4(or F5) will be other frequent abilities.
For Example: BM Hunter - 1-5 are my shots, F1-F4 are pet commands (Kill, Bestial Wrath… etc)
For Balance Druid - 1-5 are always Solar Wrath, Sunfire, Moonfire, Lunar Strike, and Starsurge in that order. F1-F4 is Starfall, Typhoon, Celestial Alignment, Force of Nature and so on…
I have all abilities I may need to use on teammates bound to mouse-overs in VuhDo, so that frees up my F-keys for other things. That also means, healing abilities, even self healing, are not on the tool bar. Well, maybe a unique class self heal will be.
I also use the ` key (the one left of the 1 key) for frequent non-rotation abilities ( Taunt, Charge, Disengage, for example).
