Alterac Valley @60 is awful

You could call that forced turtles or you could call it pvp in a pvp battleground and if it’s easier to win via a rush people will just rush even if wining through defense and backcaping is possible .

Yeah I guess we play a different game. Most of my AV experience for years has been a rush with the occasional turtles.

I would also like to point out that most wipes are due to the other team not npcs so when teams wipe in a tower it is because they are losing in pvp. Most of the ally turtle loses are because the ally team got wiped at ibt, ibgy or galv due to horde backcapers and a lack of organization from the alliance.

There is a difference between rushing and defeating the enemy general with two or three towers up vs rushing and capturing every objective along the way.

One still gives room for strategy, the other does not.

The problem is that there’s no ‘fixing’ Alterac Valley without giving all BG’s a baseline reward instead of the per-game bonus- this meaning that regardless of whether or not you spend an hour in AV, or play six WSG matches, your honor bonuses are roughly identical.

As long as there’s that incentive to either win, or barring that lose as fast as possible, there’s no fixing ‘epic’ bg’s.

BlizZard will fix AV when everyone starts queuing AV to farm for quick honor. Happened in Cata and it will happen again!

That sounds like a pretty good AV to me.

Back in Cata you could farm out a whole honor set within an AV weekend due to AV battles ending in less than 10 minutes LMAO. Good stuff especially for alts!

Not sure if that is healthy for today’s game though haha.

And there was no point for the losing side to try to win at all because you could get so much honour by losing fast over and over again

I think if people wanted fast games, they can queue for regular battlegrounds. People that like large-scale, longer PvP games need something - and right now there’s nothing that caters to them.

The problem is that you’re handicapping yourself by playing an AV match the ‘correct’ way.

I’ve said it elsewhere but for a random battleground there’s no argument for not doing this- people should be rewarded for being present in random battlegrounds and contributing to them, winning and losing should be of no particular consequence.

That’s really not true .,. Ppl will queue up for the sake of playing the game . As shown by KR games this year . People love AV , it’s consistently at the top of every BG survey I have seen. Give the players a good map and they will play .

Well, sure, but you don’t design the reward system around people who will play for the love of the game, you design it in a way that minimizes to risk of abuse and minimizes the risk of abusive players. The entire reason it’s a race to the last guy is because it’s worse honor to drain the clock, as it were.

Like, AV has tons of flaws- fifty fifty odds, capping any given graveyard at any given time is actually going to hurt your team, the repeatable quests are janky as hell in the modern game where you still turn in scrap armor and storm crystals one batch at a time, most people have absolutely no idea how to do any elite summon besides Ivus and Lok’har and even fewer people understand which to use when, Balinda and Galvangar are a complete side show in the current meta, etc- but the big one is always going to be that the game’s reward system incentivizes winning or losing as quickly as possible.

Oh absolutely, and I might have a fix for that.

Make the objectives collectively 2-3 times more honor than winning the BG and 5 times more than losing it. This promotes actually staying in and farming/doing objectives over rush rush rush if you can get so much more honor prolonging the game instead of rush rush rush.

You are correct, though, everyone wants their time to not be wasted and if you could get a lot of honor even for losing it, it doesn’t feel like your time has been wasted then just staying in the BG at that point, win or lose.

It would also be nice if they could somehow alter the Epic BG win to be instead of a win, it becomes something like “Earn X amount of honor in a random BG” - so that counts towards losses, too. It’s annoying going into things and getting stomped because 9 times out of 10 your team is just getting geared up vs teams that are already fully geared up just roflstomping away. That’s never fun.

To add to that, though, they really need to bring back the blacklist option. I don’t remember why they took it out, but I keep getting Ashran 99.99999999999% of the time for my Epic BGs and I just keep quiting them right away. I hate that BG with a passion, wish they’d just delete it instead. But, as RNG would have it I just keep getting it. I qued up for 19 epic BGs today. All 19 were Ashran. All 19 I left, waited the time, then re-qued up again.

Same thing with yesterday, too. Que’d up for 6 random epic bgs, 5 of them were ashran, 1 was AV. I won the AV and left 4 of the 5. The first Ashran I got I stayed for to see how it is; Alliance still, for the most part, sucks at it big time and I still, for the most part, keep getting punched literally 100 feet below the ground to a Disconnect and having to wait until the game kicks me offline. All because someone gets super powers that the BG loves to send me into the ground for.

You don’t design for people that enjoy playing the game and instead design for people to get through the content - in unintended ways - as quickly as possible? Seems like a pretty bad design to me.

No, you design the reward system bearing in mind that people who genuinely like the content are playing anyways while if presented an opportunity, some people will absolutely game the system.

Again, that’s why AV is a pure boss rush now- there’s no good reason to do anything but rush for a win or a loss because that’s the best honor return.
