All you computer and coding wizards, is blizzard right?

even if they could they wouldnt do anything because they dont care about customers. not since ACTIVISION took the soul of this compagny

Nasa has given the world unencumbered access to vast chunks of technologies that vastly improve your daily life.

What’s SpaceX given us again? A failing prototype of a reusable rocket? Neat.

I honestly would be embarrassed if I wrote this.

That’s because nobody is playing retail right now lol

oh nooo they better prove it, or else! :joy:
clown.
youre probably a pm LOL

what you should be asking or questioning
is if bliztard already knew these limitations, why they purposely let their servers overfill by 10k-20k players

The tech exists and technically they could alter/repurpose the servers they just shut down to make mini servers connected to the mega servers (think of it like what they did for retail) to help with this problem.

The issue with that though is it will require coding changes and such, possibly a few physical peices of tech they might not have there already, exc. Which means it would cost them some $$$ to do it, and blizzard is no longer a “for the players” company but a “for the stock holders” company.

The techs working on classic likely asked for a budget to be approved for this and it got denied because the “free” solution of free server transfers “worked so well” in the past.

I would love to see Blizzard simply grab characters on these megaservers and throw them into less populated servers and be done with it. Either you do it yourself or we’ll do it for you. Play it or leave it.

Its likely that they’re finally getting around to managing the servers, something that should have been done back in 2019, but better late than never.

As for tech, I suppose that its possible, but the better question would be “is it practical” and to that I suspect the answer is “No”.

I’m sorry friend, but blizz and space X are not even remotely comparable to 1960’s NASA. You could merge the brightest minds at both blizzard and SpaceX and still fall very short of 1960’s NASA.

Even the Soviet Space program would not have been bested by the likes of Blizzard and SpaceX combined.

(I’m talking raw intellect and problem-solving)

But let’s even compare then to now, space X is struggling to do with modern computers what Nasa did with slide rules in the 1960’s.

I agree, BUT, the server population labels just aren’t useful whatsoever. We need better information on the state of servers. Also Blizzard needs to actively manage server populations, the only reason so many people moved to Benediction and other mega realms was because Blizzard left the doors wide open.

They should look to be funded by the Government?

It’s definitely possible private servers have done it for years as a hobby. Billion dollar company with some of the best engineers and programmers the world has to offer can’t? I don’t buy it. Blizz has some REALLY smart backend people, they are being throttled because it’s “not as profitable” I assure you.

I mean, spend extra for better servers
Or
Make tens of thousands of people pay $25 per character transfer

Which one sounds more profitable?

You can even just look back at previous expansions like WOD. When hundreds or thousands of people were in a zone it didn’t Sutter or lag.

But go kill a world boss in current wow with 50 people in the zone and you have 5 sec delay on all your abilities. The server capacity formula has actually regressed throughout the years.

I don’t think private servers run realms as big as these mega realms.

Since blizzard won’t release the actual numbers we will never know, but as far as we can gather 20k is more than likely the high end of the “full” servers now.

There were private servers with 25-30k without queues and without lag.

But again, if you take a look at RETAIL 50 people lags the server dramatically. 50 people doesn’t so much lag classic. So there definitely IS some form of throttling happening. Whether queues are a result of that, or if it’s determined zone by zone is still a question

Unlikely and also it’s trivial for a private server to lie about their numbers just to seem better than their competitors. Big PS like these do run a business after all, it’s not a hobby as you claim.

you’re misunderstanding the problem.

it is absolutely possible that we’re at the limit of what is possible for the software that runs wow. It may well be the case that throwing more hardware at the problem will just increase cpu idle time on the servers while player experience continues to struggle.

I mean you’re entitled to that opinion but hobby or not they weren’t billion dollar corporations. As far as lying about their numbers: even at non peak hours the “global” chat on those servers was about 4x more message dense, and lfg dense than illidan (on retail) and (insert x full pop classic server) combined. So I’m not going to be easily convinced their numbers are fudged.

I’m more willing to believe that blizzard won’t state their numbers because they are lying to shareholders about the actual population, than I am to believe nostalrius fudged their numbers

Nostalrius didn’t have 25-30k online at the same time.

They regularly had over 15k online until shut down. They peaked higher than that I’d imagine
