My vanilla guild had ferals and dps shaman and we were clearing content. We must have been the best damn players in the world to somehow overcome that terrible handicap. And I probably shouldn’t say this but we were even having FUN doing it.

Are they viable? Sure.
Are they actually good on their own? Not really.
You’d have to put in a lot of extra work just to be middle of the pack dps while i do about as much damage as you just auto shotting and sending in my pet.

There’s no point in consciously choosing to have dead weight memespecs in your raid unless you’re struggling to hit 40 people.

I’ve said it several times, play with likeminded people. If you want to min/max, play with min/maxxers.
If you want to play casually or play whatever spec regardless of its ability to “compete” with some of the other “pure” classes, find a group of people that feel the same way and play with them.
But please don’t pretend like every class/spec is able to compete at the highest levels of game regardless of what spec you are. That’s just pure and simple delusion.

No one is saying you can’t clear content with meme specs in raid. But if you bring too many, it makes the fights significantly harder, and most players don’t sign up to carry meme specs.

If hybrids did the same dps as pures, there would be no reason to bring pures.
This “bring the player not the class” philosophy is what led to retail having painfully homogenized classes where everyone is the same and nobody is special and the classes are all just the same thing with different names/animations on their spells.

TBH Memespecs should only be taken to raids when they’re on farm/pug status. If you want a spot in top raiding guilds, you gotta play the meta.
For instance, I want to go Shadow/Holy spec. But I know my only utility in a raid if I do that is my shadoweaving to give locks a DPS boost.
So I’m going full holy/disc once I hit 60 so I can do raid content without having to fight for the ONE shadowspec spot that many raids don’t even have open yet.
I have no intention of ever being in a top raiding guild. I just want to have fun and not min max the hell out of the game.

There is a lot of grey area between the two.
Also hybrids can bring other things to the table besides dps. They can bring buffs that increase everyones dps, or armor, or spirit. What they lack sometimes can be made up by the increase buffs for the group.
The 2 aren’t mutually exclusive. Just to let you know.

All of these memespec mains seem to think that if you don’t want a ret in your raid, you are a “hardcore minmaxer”…uh, no, just a person that doesn’t want to drag along a dead weight DPS who is just going to be carried with how little damage he’s doing compared to everyone else.

Ya, basically I do not want to be in a nerd rage group that judges you only for one facet of gameplay.

Guys, classic raiding us on par with peewee football. There’s no reason to cut a 6 year old because he can’t keep up with the team average of a 10 second 5 yard dash in which you have to run in the right direction, and people that get all serious about it are an absolute joke, just like people min/maxing MC.

Then dont make them equal, but less than half isnt really cutting it.
Or give them utility unique from their healing spec.
There is a massive gap between where we are now and every class being the same (which also isnt true on retail, several unique buffs and utility or shared with only 1-3 classes out of 12).
This is all for discussion anyway, no changes should happen in classic.
