This is exactly how I see it. Same for Faction. You should Pick your Race, Pick your Class, Pick your Faction. Based on your Faction choice puts you on a certain side, based on your class you start in a certain area.
That’s certainly possible. If we did something like that I think I’d prefer it if the “unusual” class choices for any particular race had a different starting zone. It would be kind of neat to start as a Human Druid in a Night Elf zone learning from Night Elf Druids.
maybe I’m misremembering , but wasn’t there a human druid in one of the books?
just a single dude that likely hasn’t been mentioned since?
They DO have a starting zone for unusual race/class pairings: Exile’s Reach.
That zone validates literally every single combo that starts at Lv1.
No it doesn’t. That’s simply an alternative starting zone for new characters. It doesn’t change the fact that their race-based starting zone is something else.
Their race-based zone doesn’t matter. It justifies it because it allows the PLAYER to come up with their own character’s reason for adventuring.
I’m confused how citing story refutes my post that other people enjoy story elements.
That could certainly be a possibility. About to get in a lot of trouble but in FFXIV when you are picking your initial starting class that determines where you’ll start your adventure. I.E Gladiator, Pugilists and Thaumaturge start in Ul’dah. Marauder and Arcanists start in Limsa Lominsa and Lancer, Archer and Conjurer start in Gridania.
Making it so you pick a class and having you start in another races zone would definitely be interesting.
Just give me my Undead Demon Hunter so I can name him Al Simmons
I feel that, in the case of easy arguments… or arguments of loose thread at best, then class restrictions should be lifted, no question…
Void Elf Paladins, hands down… if they can be Priests and Warriors… and Void Elves are all entirely an exiled faction of Blood Elves… you’re telling me that every Bloodknight that succumbed to the touch of the void instantly facemelted… after precisely how long of enslaving a naaru for their own benefits… and being fine? Something doesn’t add up… ya know?
Hell, from a Paladin argument, Zandalari had lore directly countering the argument toward Paladins and in some cases Priests… but here we are, all because lore was created to fit the niche and force-spoon the class… if that’s the case, what argument is there against Elune Paladins, Nightborne Paladins and Druids, Blood Elf/Void Elf druids…
For a long time there were arguments against certain races having Priests… now they do… so, considering Paladins are extensions of the Priest order…
Mages and Warlocks are, from a magical lore standpoint, the same thing… just one failed school… so… that’s an easy fix as well… Oh but “Lightforge warlocks make no sense”… oh but a Lightforge Deathknight does?
Demonhunters are another loose argument… Void Elf and Nightborne Demonhunters aren’t as far of a stretch as one might argue either… and there are lore aspects to include humans… I’m not saying Demonhunters for all, but a few more options aren’t gamebreaking where appropriate
and a personal want, even though there’s no lore for it… Gnome/Goblin/Mechangnomes Druids… “Mechabots transform and roll out!”
You talk about lore breaking race/class combos and I literally gave you the absolute biggest offender. I mean maybe undead paladin would top a night elf mage but barely.
The fact night elf mages exist invalidates your “bUt ThInK oF tHe LoRe!!11!”
You forgot to add “to me” at the end of that.
One thing I hate about these conversations are how incredibly dismissive people can be about people who actually care about the game’s lore. Yes you’ve made it very clear that you don’t care. I do. Providing different starting zones to different race/class combos still achieves your end goal of getting the race/class combos you want so what exactly are you objecting to?
Gilneans were basically human druids known as “Harvest Witches” prior to the Worgen Curse. The Worgen curse just allowed them to go further into it due to the connection of the curse being heavy nature magic. This is good lore that allowed for the Worgen/Druid combination.
I am not against all class/race combos but just plopping them into the game with no explanation isn’t good.
To be specific, the blood of mannoroth turned the modern orcs green. Just like the blood of magtheridon turned the remaining orcs in outland red. Fel does not instantly make orcs green.
How? They have in game story elements about it. What I replied to originally was the idea of proposing game unlocks with no story elements because some players just ignore the story. This is to somehow supersede players who don’t ignore it.
I like this idea, except for the whole plan. I think it’s a great idea for new races to get new classes, but I feel that when this is done, remove some of the old races from the classes. This way we can have flex class/race combos. Remove Undead from hunter. Remove Night Elf from the game. Just a couple examples.
Eh, Fel kind of acts like radiation. The longer you are exposed to it the more things start getting weird.
Honestly it wouldn’t be all that out of the ordinary to see human warlocks with horns and scales due to long exposure to Fel energy.
Once lightforged were able to become death knights all restrictions pretty much became pointless
I’m assuming the worst from the developers; that they, in their laziness, wouldn’t want to shove around starting points based on class (which WOULD make a great deal of sense, you’re right). The work is already done however for a race-agnostic starting zone where having an unusual or ‘invalid’ race/class combination won’t affect anything since you’re already in the greater faction’s military at this point and go straight to your capitol afterward. That’s why I argue so hard for Exile’s Reach.
Ideally, yes, you’d go to the experts of whatever class you’d be joining that are accessible for your Faction, so if you made a Tauren Mage, you’d be learning from Blood Elves, or if you made a Pandaren Demon Hunter, you’d learn from BE or NE depending on faction. It’d be BEST if Mages started in, say Dalaran, but the Faction Divide means we can’t have nice things.
