Nod everything was script based, and you knew exactly what it would do at all times. You just needed to pay attention and either increase or slow DPS at times not to push into the next phase to early.
It depends. Because of the addons they have had to make content even harder because they build the encounters around people using them which makes it harder for the average player. I wasn’t around for GINA but I remember it for some reason. I played EQ from 99-04 then EQ2 from 04-09 and WoW from 04-11.
Or just try not to fall asleep waiting for your name to show up in the CHeal list.
I wouldnt say it depends, because in no stretch was EQ content more difficult.
I say this as a person who raided heavily, and played from 99-2014. The early raids were just tank and spank gear checks. After PoP with instances they became a bit more mechanically driven. But still very simple.
What you’re saying seems to be that you think it is reasonable to expect new players to have the skills and awareness of someone who has been playing videogames competitively for 30 years.
I would never expect a new player to grasp the game as easily as someone that has played it. Just like they won’t know about addons, and most console gamers I don’t think get the option to use addons, that is mostly a PC Gamer thing? But as far as my 30 years of online gaming experience, I had that experience from day 1.
I used to play a lot of Flight Sim, FPS and RTS games where you needed situational awareness, like hearing footsteps of potential targets near you. I was very combat orientated in my youth, played lots of strategy games along with tabletop games. I got my 1st computer back in 1978 and built up a huge library of games I’ve played and can no longer play because computers advanced beyond their original coding.
Skill rotations and raid fights in FF14 are more static, so addons are less necessary.
What is funny about your post is that FF14 raid mechanics go out of their way to hold your hand by putting giant letters, numbers or patterns above your head to make it easier to know what you are supposed to do.
None of them? I just want the encounters tuned without them. I said if. If the top guilds can’t do the encounters without those addons. I don’t know if they can or not, and neither do you.
Okay, I only have a few add-ons, primarily altoholic and healbot, as well as DBM. If they made me a good player, my achievements would be a lot higher. But having a healing add-on REALLY helps me keep my party alive. If the OP thinks add-ons aren’t needed, he better make sure all his healers don’t use one so he can prove how well he uses his self-heals.
Then it should be fine to expect those top 5 guilds who are the only ones who can complete the encounters without nerfs, to complete them without addons.
The people who are using those addons arent any better than people not using them. I only use hekili on alts while leveling them up. I am an aotc raider and to my knowledge I have never seen DBM pop up and say USE A DEFENSIVE.
i use MRT but ive never been able to figure it out. my raid leader claims he is sending out reminders and I dont know what he is talking about because nothing pops up on my screen. So far, I only use MRT for the stopwatch feature.
yeah… when i open MRT and click “reminders” for example, theres so much crap on my screen its like gibberish. I see a bunch of time stamps and i see 2 people from the raids names.
This app is like vuhdo, you need a degree to use it
I started playing WoW in Vanilla and I never used to use Addons until I joined a Guild once I was good enough to start Raiding.
Many of my Guildmates encouraged me to use DBM, it was almost a must considering the mechanics of the Raid Boss fights, along with Recount to check on my Dps and Interrupts.
I saw no harm in using them, I mean it made me a better player and less of a liability to my guild during fights.
Now with so much button bloat, I use Hekill, and to me it seems almost a must to use if I want to be effective on my Dps.
I don’t look at it as a skill issue OP, they are making this game so much more unfriendly as opposed as to how it was back then, that it is almost a must you get on curse and DL some Addons so you won’t get kicked from a group or a Guild.
I’ve been calling for a ban on add-ons like DBM, any weakaura that gives boss or fight info, GTFO and more for a long time. Two problems:
blizzard has let them have these add ones for so long many players have no idea how to play the game without them.
blizzard said the like screwing players with color on same color. They actually think it’s good despite nearly everyone telling them no. So they FORCE many players to use add-ons because they are to lazy to change a color palette
