It was a lot of fun. Luckily they weren’t concerned with my dps, but the DBM did help me to work well with the mechanics. I have done the raid with them twice on normal… not even going to attempt the heroic. I really did enjoy the 3 extra vault slots to choose from.
It teaches you more than what WoW teaches you when it comes to how a good majority of fights will work. That is already leagues above what WoW does in terms of extrapolating mechanics.
How a class operates and how to play it optimally in FF14 is something I’ll agree with you on - you do need to go and consult external sources to understand it. Most MMOs, especially WoW, has this as a quality. Conditioning a player to be good at a class is something I haven’t seen too many MMOs do successfully.
I’ll stop being so critical of the developers in this department once these mechanical indicators remain consistent across multiple iterations. I still remember when the swirls were used on KJ as the thing to stand on rather off. Even as early as Aberrus, you can see different ground indicators reused with completely different meaning (Amalg in particular comes to mind IIRC).
Consistency would go a VERY long way.
I don’t think that was the exact name. I recall that they changed the name a while back because it seemed unfair to target healers in that way. I haven’t done serious PvP since wod, so I have no idea if it still exists.
But if you actually pay attention you will see that the swirls and circles are visually different. You differentiate the spawn circles (for the player drop pools and orbs), the frontal, hit box of the shadow orbs during p2, and group soak.
I will throw you bone and say that less skilled players may have difficulty recognizing this because the COLORS are changing but the animations are widely the same. The soak animation (excluding color and minor details) is literally the same on Terros, Amalgamation Chamber, Volcoross, Smolderon, Ulgrax, and Rash. Even when they function different they have some form of additional visual indicator that shows their function changed. Mythic Volcoross shows that the fire aoe on players as it shrinks remains the same but then gains an additional animation to indicate to players to soak.
If you’re not able to understand a mechanic after seeing it 2 or 3 times, its a skill issue completely. Use your brain and be intuitive. Or use Logs which is what every FF14 blind prog static does doing current ultimate or savage content just like WoW players do if they don’t want to have every raider record their pov and do hours of vod review/screenshotting every debuff they get
I’ve been playing WoW since 2009 and never used an addon.
You don’t even need DBM for that. I don’t have an addon. The game itself has a built in version. ALSO if you use in-game sounds the bosses often have a phrase or sound before an ability. Also 99% of fights do same thing, in the same order, you can just memorize the fights.
The cope of low skill players is that they think they can substitute actual player skills with a few add-ons and weakauras.
If you don’t have the baseline you have nothing.
Multiplying 0 still results in 0.
I am not a hardcore raider, but addons are only 25% in my opinion, and not the 100% OP believes.
Lol if Blizz kills off add-ons, they’ll have hammered down the final nail in WoW’s coffin. They’re not that stupid.
Next.
Trust me when I say if the game went naked no addons you’d still not be good compared to the best players by a long shot.
So with addons, why isn’t everyone a CE raider or pushing high keys?
All I want is this.
When they use Method or Liquid or Echo to playtest their encounters, make them do it without addons. That is literally all I want.
I admit it’s all I want because it will totally change the conversation, but I think it’s a conversation that needs to be had. Ultimately, if the game is so hard that even the top players cannot complete the encounters, perhaps they are overtuned? And simultaneously, if someone whose low skill level, design-wise, deliberately gates them out of completing that encounter because the devs have deliberately said, no you must be at least this tall to ride and he is not that tall, but suddenly with the right addons they can complete it, aren’t they designing badly?
The name of the addon is H.H.T.D.
I think top players cannot simulate the play of average players.
Can you specify which encounters you think can’t be done without addons?
I get Cutting Edge Mythic every tier, and the only encounter I’ve ever done where I felt an addon was absolutely required was Mythic Queen Azshara.
We don’t use add-ons in FF14 because we don’t need them in FF14. FF14 is easier than WoW by orders of magnitude. Sorry, but it’s true. FF14 excels in story-telling, the crafting and gathering system, the glamours system and the social aspect – all things that WoW is woefully lacking. But FF14’s combat difficulty is nowhere close to where WoW is at.
It sounds like you like to be challenged. Get some raid logs in on Heroic raids here in WoW and then apply for some Mythic raid guilds!
You felt that for Ovi’nax too?
Obviously my altoholic addon makes me better in all forms of content including dungeons and raids. I’d only be half as good without it.
Ya that addon sucked. Like I said, you could mark enemy healers while still locked behind gates waiting for the timer to countdown. I know one PvE addon that my guild required during WotLK drew lines on the ground with a person you had to kiss on one of the raid bosses.
Yeah, because looking at the ground to see the obvious telegraphed boss attacks requires so much thought.
Want to make sure I understand, as I didn’t read all of the comments. You would rather have an addon tell you to get the out of the way then use visual cues?
I use the sound, visual and written cues a boss does and says when I play then relying strictly on an addon. I started playing MMO’s 30 years ago, and one of my favorites was Ever Quest. We didn’t have voice chat, everything was communicated in the game, you paid attention, or you died.
When I came to World of Warcraft, one of my first comments when I started to play then raid was , all these people will learn to play by addons only and a entire generation of gamers will be ruined.
We had ventrillo.
But to be fair, the mechanics were a lot more simplified.
Playing with add ons in WoW, the content is more difficult than any EQ. And GINA became a thing in EQ and extremely popular.
