By “no idea how to play without them” you mean not picking up on cues.
Blizzard has significantly improved at readability over the years, but for a long time their mechanics have been horrifically poorly telegraphed.

It won’t change anything. You still won’t be good and we still will be better.
theres no such thing, the game is designed that people will use add ons, so you have to use add ons in some content
I value skill over addons or gear. Gear will allow a player to get closer or exceed a skilled player in power, but if they lack the skill to play the character then all the gear or addons in the world won’t save them.
There are several classifications of addons, and yes World of Warcraft did at one point did have an addon that basically came close to playing one raid encounter for you. Modifications or User Interface addons help players change how the games look. They don’t give a distinct advantage in combat.
Combat addons, depending on how they are designed is why Blizzard is forced to make encounters even harder. They know at some point an addon is or will be designed to make an encounter trivial. Informational addons are just that, they provide information that players want to see like how well they do damage or heal in a given encounter.
I personally learned to play games before addons, or mods were made for gaming. I learned to pay attention to what the boss is casting, saying or visual cues going on around me. I also don’t particularly use information addons that tell me how combat is going. I could care less about how much DPS or Heals you or I am doing as long as the encounter dies.
UI addons are ethe one major thing I will look for if available. Blizzards designing of their UI is atrocious. Personally, I run the following addons,
Can someone tell me these add-ons that play the game for you?
Be nice to just auto que for 10s and farm some gilded easily
OP, would a good sticker that says “I don’t use addons” suffice for your inflated ego?
“But completely depend on my raid leader to warn me for everything happening”
Might not fit though.
Audio cues don’t press the buttons for you. If it was the much of a hand holding then why don’t we have more than 1% of players timing all +12s or getting CE?
This tells you what button to press without any nuance. It’s a DPS loss compared to someone who understands their abilities and adjusts their rotation based on the pull, what’s going on, and so forth.
Don’t healers have like 1 button they need to press? Not really an equivalent argument here.
Savage is closer to a heroic equivalent. Ultimates are the mythic equivalent, and assuming you’re not cheating with add-ons, is so beyond mythic in difficulty that it’s only a tenuous comparison at best.
Seems like most of the “hard core” statics are cheating just like the top end guilds over on wow though. So the skill comparison breaks down somewhat.
Assuming you’re playing the game correctly, and not cheating, clearing a savage is way more satisfying than clearing wow heroic though. “How much of my success was me, and how much were the 20 different add-ons playing my character for me, and trivializing the encounter?”.
I think it would be interesting if blizzard implemented challenge mode heroic raids where the API was completely locked off from add-ons. Base UI only. My assumption is that it would be exactly like my experiences forever ago in the original BWL, watching “good healers” become completely incapable of doing anything at all when their add-ons broke on patch day.
Addons feel mandatory because of Blizzard’s poor UI design.
Can see certain things happening because of so much spell effects, similar color palettes, debuff placement/ what it does etc.
Even if it doesn’t make the player better, it certainly makes the player experience better.
It was never a UI thing. Even in vanilla wow, people needed add-ons to do pants on head easy content like molten core. If anything, it was the presence of add-ons that caused blizzard to gradually implement more and more ridiculous mechanics that required them.
Game would have turned out significantly better had they done what square decided to do, and set the difficulty at a place you could reasonably complete without add-ons, and then banned add-ons.
It would have chased off the e-sport types, but that’s the source of a super majority of the problems the game has had for over a decade, turning the game into one big min max fest.
Agree with this.
It still comes back to Blizzard’s design.
Do it properly for the average dummy to understand so we don’t need addons. EXCEPT the ones that maybe changes our theme.
And they will keep on being lazy with programing the spell animations so long as we have add-ons to do their job. This is all still the same BS from Legion
Everytime someone says add ons play the game for someone…
The more they are waving a huge flag saying “Do not take anything I say seriously”
