Hopefully they just reduce spawn timers. I’m sick of rare hunting in Nazjatar.
Addons aren’t posting so much that you can’t keep track of conversations. I’ve been able to see and respond to people’s questions in Mechagon very easily.
They aren’t in the early morning when I play but they most certainly were when I was in mechagon earlier today.
It depends on the time of day and who you have in your shard. Actually, it probably depends on the server too now that I think about it, all those people I was seeing spam from were on my server.
If you are in Mechagon, with people doing it the WRONG way, it is kind of spammy.
My guess is those add ons have adjustments, but some people don’t bother to use them? I say this because I don’t really notice people using them incorrectly, on my server that much.
it’s not even a helpful addon. it just makes killing rares harder for people who dont have flying
I’ve sat around in Mechagon for hours before (even in the evening on a weekend) while farming stuff and have never had a problem keeping track of any conversations or questions that might be happening. The addons just aren’t nearly as obstructive as you’re making them out to be.
You weren’t playing on my server, in my shard, when I was in Mechagon earlier. All it takes is to have 5 people with those addons for that amount of spam to occur.
Just because you haven’t experienced it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening because I saw it happen twice today alone but that maybe was because I was watching for it more.
How are they lost? You can scroll up to see what was said and, as I said, you can always put the person providing the rare alert on Ignore.
Sure you can scroll up for conversations but having to constantly scroll up because of spam isn’t ideal and really discourages others from joining because you have to find the context of the discussion first.
As for questions that are missed why would something even think to scroll up ? I just glance at the screen every so often and all I normally see is addon spam.
I already have 3 or more people on ignore because of this, I don’t want to put regular contributors to chat on ignore because they are using an addon that spams.
I watch chat fairly closely when I’m actively farming because I want to see when rares spawn so I can go kill them. If I’m being lazy and trying to spawn camp a rare, then I wouldn’t notice someone’s question even if there wasn’t anyone using these rare announce addons.
The things people will complain about.
Rare announces are not spam.
Spam is defined as irrelevant messages sent over the Internet to a large number of users for the purposes of advertising.
Rare announces are most certainly relevant and are not a form of advertising.
All you’re actually complaining about is players trying to help other players.
It boggles the mind.
Thank you .
All the addon does is interfere with peoples abilities to use General Chat as the 21st Century Barrens Chat.
I’d actually love for the OP or anyone to point out where in the Terms of Use it is violating it.
Cause you can’t. It doesn’t.
I’ll even provide handy links to the code of conduct AND the end user licensing agreement (also known as the terms of use)
In fact, the only explicit rules they have about what can’t be done in a chat channel are:
Advertising
Anything NSFW
Anything that Promotes Cheating
Anything Hateful, Malicious, or Disrespectful
Unlike most of the people here, I’ve actually read the entire Terms of Use, I don’t just spout, “It’s against the Terms of Use!” I actually know what is or isn’t against it.
The funny thing is, spamming isn’t even mentioned anywhere in the Terms of Use. Blizzard themselves have even mentioned many times before that the Report for > Spam button is only meant for people advertising, and should not be abused and used for people using for legitimate means.
So, again. Feel free to point out where exactly these add-ons violate the Terms of Use?
Whereas if you’ve ever used that handy “Report > Spam” button on someone using said add-on, you’ve done something Blizzard’s asked you not to do, which means you’re the one who did something bad here.
This is interesting considering their definition of spam seems to be a tad more far reaching when it comes to the forums.
Would be easy to make a macro. “/1 %t is up”
Which would just end up being reported by the same people. The issue isn’t that it’s automated by the addon. The issue is that the people are reporting it and Blizzard is upholding the squelches and silencing the people.
This isn’t true. The macros would have a person with sense behind them using them ( hopefully). They would not be spamming a rare has died when another person just said it like those addons being used currently does. It is the continual repeating that is the issue, not the fact that the rares are being announced.
People claimed that addons like this were always used but they weren’t. In MoP on timeless isle back before we had connected servers and CRZ in current content, I remember people calling out rares as well and they weren’t addons. People were able to have a lot of actual discussions not so now.
well when you’re farming the area or working on dailies, it comes up enough by not one, but multiple players. It floods the channels on heavier servers and it’s out of control
I think the whole purpose of that channel is to alert us about baddies in the area. It probably should be done manually though.
Am I the only person who can play for 2 or 3 hours and never even notice the chat channels or what’s going on in them.
