Addon Channel Spamming - it's against TOS

API should be changed to not allow addons (rarespawns, ect.) to spam channels. This is against TOS of the game no matter how you look at it. Helpful or not, it’s spamming the game channels and it’s so far out of control it’s beyond the point of annoying.

API should force the designers to create another channel specifically for the addon. The addon can then communicate in a separate channel other than /1 and /2. Those with the addon can then see the information by the addon from there, not in main channels of the game.

Why is this not being dealt with by developers of the game? I’m sorry, it’s against TOS, period. It needs to stop.

Hear hear. I don’t need ten different people spamming general with a constant stream of updates about one single rare’s health. If you need to call it out, do it manually.

Wow, just Wow. Some how this does not surprise me coming from the WoW community.

Right? It is sickening, the things that people will complain over.

There is nothing wrong with their suggestion. They are just saying addon chat should be restricted to a separate channel.

I do wonder if OP meant this as a Sunday thread though - little too dramatic for just a normal suggestion imo.

I’d rather have rare spawn timers and health than the constant stream of memes, run sellers and a**l skills polluting the general chat.

I never get that on general chat because most of those sellers are lvl 1s and don’t make it out to 8.2 areas.

And if you report that al chat you don’t have any on your server because blizzard shuts those people up pretty fast and consistently.

I disagree. I find the rare announcements to be very helpful. And besides recruitment and memes what the heck else is the chat being used for the majority of the time. If you don’t like the announcements, you can hide General. I have Trade hidden on most of my chat windows bc I can’t stand most of the spam when I’m in town.

I am significantly more infuriated by people spamming guild runs or “professional runs” than I am by people announcing rares.

I’m not going to lie, if information is useful, it’s not spam. Spam is something that is neither useful, relevant, and is repeated. Someone expressing an opinion you disagree with, for example, is not spam. Someone repeatedly saying that Azshara is a hot babe would be spam.

An addon announcing a rare is not, at least technically, spam in itself. It can end up spamming when multiple people announce it at once, but the information itself isn’t spam.

I’d suggest that, if it truly bothers you, you should suggest that the addon makers add functionality to detect whether a rare has been announced, and also restrict it from announcing the rare’s health. Then you’d see only one instance of an announcement per rare, and no updates on it’s health.

In the end, though, the best option would be for Blizzard to create a specific channel for addons. Custom channels are hindered by administrator rights, and communities have limitations (and addons can’t post to communities).

What you consider useful other people don’t though.

I’m sorry to ask in irrelevant question but are you named after the Kpop singer/rapper, OP? :sunglasses:

At least report death. I hate reaching a boss to find out he’s been dead for a few seconds already.

That’s irrelevant. The point is that “spam” needs to be objectively spam before it can be actionable.

You don’t find it useful or helpful, but a great many people do. Therefore, it can’t objectively be considered spam. It’s just something you find annoying. There is a difference, and it’s important to keep that in mind.

Remember that your logic works in reverse. What you consider spam doesn’t mean everyone considers spam.

What you might not consider useful, other people might though. Two sides of the same coin, very bad argument.

So you consider having:

'rustfeather - 100% xx coords, then rustfeather - 86% xx coords - then rustfeather - 73% xx coords - mrfixit - 100% xx coords - rustfeather 60% xx coords - jawbreaker 62% xx coords - rustfeather 23% xx coords - mrfixit 72% xx coords - rustfeather dead

To be useful.

Sure why not? If you’re hunting rare, how can it not be useful?

Some people would consider all that mailbox spam about enlargements useful, I would not. Just because something is useful to some people doesn’t mean it still isn’t spam.

What else is there to talk about in mechagon anyway?

To add : if you force the addon to create a channel, you’d be open to that so called spam wherever you are, unless it makes you leave and enter repeatedly.

I consider updates on it’s health to be potentially useful to someone who might not be close by so as to determine if it’s worth going.

AzerPUG Rare Uitility already has built in spam reduction, and I suspect that you’re being hyperbolic for the sake of it. AzerPUG detects when people have already announced a rare, and limits the announcements for the same rare.

You can make an argument that an addon that intentionally announced their health ever 10% could be a problem, but saying that all addons that announce rares is a problem just misses the forest for the trees.

Just leave general chat. If not for people calling out rares literally nobody says anything unless somebody is trolling…
