Account suspension for posting lfg in lfg chat

I’m pretty sure i just got 7day account banned for posting looking for players for my guild in lfg chat.

I’m a guild master of a small guild so i post lf guild messages like anyone else on the server but i if someone doesn’t like me and report me enough times i can be banned? aint no way right?

10+years account and wrongfully banned makes me sad

Use LFG only for finding players immediately for content you want to do right away, not for raids months later in advance or guild recruitment which is accepted in Trade chat or realm forums.

You may still appeal until they tell you to stop if you think it was done in error.

That is possible. LFG is not the place to advertise for guild recruitment. It is to be used for immediate grouping for a quest, dungeon, etc.

The category you likely got penalized for would be spam, if your assumption about why you were suspended is correct.

Also keep in mind, the duration of the penalty is based on account history. Anything from about 2016 and on counts as part of the penalty volcano. If you have a suspension, then your account has had at least one penalty on it before.

i done some troll in the past when i was younger i must admit but yes.

everyone does post lfg in lfg chat so i do aswell how am i the only one banned

Perhaps you were considered spamming, rather than just advertising?

Technically suspended, not banned. Bans are permanent.

Unfortunately you won’t know what action happens to other accounts, only yours.

Looking for a group and recruiting for your guild are two totally different things. You may not advertise guild recruitment in the LFG channel. People likely reported you for spam, because it is advertising spam.

You don’t know that others are not punished, as Blizzard keeps that information between them and the other player. However, IF your assumption is accurate, it would be because yours was reported and the others weren’t.

If you see someone breaking the rules, you should report them. Not join them.

Is there an article or post that clearly identifies what type of communications is permitted in each of the official public chat channels?

All it takes is one report weather or not a player dislikes you will have no relevance if it was a wrongful action the fact that you were actioned seems that blizzard agrees with the rport.

I remember reading this article about “in-game advertising”, and it specifies a little bit of certain types of advertising being permitted in a certain chat channel: https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/187406

Individuals and guilds selling items and profession services for gold is allowed but can only be advertised in-game through the Trade chat channel.

Individuals and guilds selling boost or assistance in raiding, dungeon, or PvP activities for gold is allowed but can only be advertised in-game through the Trade Services chat channel.

Not sure if there is one exactly. This thread here discusses it as well - in the CS forum - with Blues not correcting or changing it.

It is the fact that it is advertising/recruiting, not for an immediate run. The big fights about using LFG were centered around GDKP run advertising which is where the policy is most often discussed.

Entire current player discussion on it over in Cata Classic

Depending on the amount of lines your recruitment takes up, and the frequency of the posts, people who are trying to form groups in the now might get upset. The reason might be is that LFG messaging is limited as far as how often you can post. So if you are a raid leader trying to fill on a high pop server, and your post is wiped out by “dad bods with vigor” then those people may choose to report instead of trying to use both trade and LFG to post with more frequency

Not saying I agree with it, but if you are a leveling guild I would use the daytime hours to recruit and limit nigh time posts when more people might be online in a constrained timeframe to play

Blizzard has an automated service for spam or inappropriate communication. Saves a lot on money and typically gives you a behavior warning after 2 or 3 reports to give you time to figure out what you are doing to aggravate the community and or violate the terms of service and or social contract

Sometimes you get a warning, sometimes you don’t. The warning is not something the GMs can even see. The only automated account action is a SQUELCH - it is designed for gold spammers and such. It triggers after enough unique accounts report something in a short enough period of time. Then a GM will review and determine if an actual account action is warranted.

If an account is suspended or closed, then an actual GM reviewed the report and issued the penalty.

LFG is for finding immediate groups for content like a quest or PUG. It is NOT for advertising guild recruitment, GDKP, etc. Any advertisements like that belong in other channels. Guild recruiting is usually done in Trade or General. GDKP (where allowed) and any other services need to be advertised in Trade (Services).

Anything else can be reported and actioned as Spam/Advertising.

I mean the channel is called LFG for a reason. You are looking for a group to do content with. Should be obvious what the channel is for.

Just like they created a channel for people to post services in the services channel.

And yes if someone is using a channel incorrectly it should be reported.

Guild advertisement should be in the trade channel it is accepted as what it’s used for.

Blizzard could create a separate Looking for Guild channel / Guild Advertisement / Guild Services but we just have trade for now.

Only ones who can look into those actions are the gm who reviews your appeal. Random gm can not just look into it

No gms on the forums either way

And I highly recommend self-reporting your name.

Yes. they have used form letters - templates for responses for over a decade. You get one of a set of standard answers. They don’t type it out every time. That template answer was formulated and approved so that everyone gets the same information. Would I be shocked if a first appeal was even handled by an automatic rejection? No, I would not be shocked. I do know that appealing again can result in human eyes on it. They still answer with a template though.

  • Action upheld
  • Action overturned and an apology
  • Action escalated to a specialist
  • Action reduced to a suspension from a perma ban

There is nothing more to it than that. Either the data in the logs and anti cheat software backs the account action, or it does not.

There are rare false positives. Those usually result in a batch run of the detection criteria again and an unbanning of those who were a false positive. They get an email and an apology as well as game time sometimes.

Most account actions are upheld because the logs back it. Most of the “I got mass reported” complaints are 100% false.

Like this from the other day.
