Hello.I received an email today
Account Name: WOW#2
Account Action: Warning
Offense: Use of Input Broadcasting Software
But I don’t use it anymore.~(6 days). I use buttons 4 and 5 (mouse). I thought to solve this problem in the support Service but I couldn’t figure out where to send the ticket.
Is it running in the background while you are running the client?
You probably will want to quit out of it, if not uninstall it all together.
Keep in mind, Akler, when we issue a warning, silence or suspension, it isn’t necessarily for actions that you just took. It can be days or weeks prior, as our investigations generally take weeks.
The warning is just that, a warning that we previously detected your use of Input Broadcasting Software and that going forward such use could result in the suspension or closure of the account. It is simply a warning to stop if you were still using it, or planned to.
I didn’t use it in the background, but I deleted it just in case
remember to check your background processes in your task manager.
Same thing happened to me. I made sure I had them disable the day the post went out. I completely uninstalled them now, any other thing we should look at to ensure our accounts aren’t banned without a real reason?
It wouldn’t surprise me if they send these out to everyone who has used the software in the last couple months, even if it was before the change, just to make sure everyone gets notified. I wouldn’t be worried if you no longer use the software.
hope so really don’t want to risk the account. just wish they could/would do more checking before sending them out but it would take too long I’m sure
This is more or less what Vrakthris was trying to get at. It’s just the heads-up notice in case you missed the announcement, and just making sure everything’s on the level.
What is an Input Broadcasting Software and how do I know if I am using one?
It’s software that is used to multbox. If you don’t multibox, then you haven’t likely gone out of your way to find software that sends your keystrokes to multiple WoW clients at the same time.
Ok ty vm! While I do have two accounts. One for me and one shared with my grandson, I do not have anything that syncs the two together other than the battle tag that links both accounts. Thank you again! I was scared.
I also received a warning and have received a reply to my ticket. I was told in the ticket " As long as you are not using any software or addons that mirror keystrokes to multiple WoW game clients, your account will remain playable with no restrictions or interruptions." I wanted to point out the mention of addons because I was using the EMA addon to get my characters to mount and it was in unison for the followers this past weekend.
The author of EMA has noted on the main page of the addon:
" EMA does not do any software broadcasting everything is done though the API and things you can do in game,
if blizzard does not like stuff addons do they can change it."
As long as you’re using addons from a reputable site, they’re safe to use. Addons only do what Blizzard allows them to do; it’s when you get into 3rd party software that it becomes an issue, because Blizzard has no control over settings outside their sandbox.
They don’t have to change it. All they have to do is start slapping out warnings and suspensions or break the add-on. Add-ons are allowed for the most part, but they are never supported. Something to keep in mind. Even the most reputable of add-ons that have been around since the beginning of time can overstep themselves or potentially be hacked to do bad things and their reputation won’t save the player if it does overstep into no-go territory.
Usually Blizzard will simply break an add-on if it does something they don’t like or they decide to change what an add-on can do. I can’t recall any time that they have warned or taken action against players for using an add-on that Blizzard ended up breaking.
The last big one I can remember was the raid add-on that allowed you to draw graphics on the screen for the entire raid to see, Blizzard simply made it so that the add-on couldn’t access that part of the program, they didn’t actually do anything to players that were using it. So add-ons shouldn’t cause action to be taken against a player.
I recall a time when a popular RP add-on had something crazy happening to it thanks to someone with too much time in their hands. What was an innocent add-on actually had a way of stealing a player’s gold rather than trading a created item. I’m pretty sure folks who knew about the hack and still used it were sanctioned, but I couldn’t say 100%. If there is a will and a way, crazy mess can be done unfortunately.
Breaking the addon is changing it, They are making a change that disrupts the API it uses thus breaking it.
I think you’re misunderstanding what they mean by “Breaking”. Blizzard isn’t changing anything to the add-on itself, they’re basically just blocking it from working. They don’t change any coding or how the add-on works itself.
That wasn’t any one addon. That was a script scammers were claiming would do various things to make different addons better that would give the scammer the ability to steal that players gold and to try to message friends/guild members the same script to steal from them as well.
It was never actually part of any addon though. So those punished were punished because they purposefully sent the script to players, but the script itself (and the hack/cheat) had nothing to do with any one particular addon.
