Abandon retail development

Blizzard should put all their efforts on Classic. Retail isnt worth it. The story just make less sense expansions after expansion.
All that is required right now are 4 servers, all vanilla.

Redo talent trees like TBC but you start talents at lvl 0 instead of 10 and max lvl remains 60.
Give us dreaneis, BE, worgens, goblins, high elves, nagas, and furbolgs.
No dark portal, no new worlds, no new lands.
Create 1 more raid per year in Azeroth, always lvl 60. Forever. 60.

Finally.

Someone else is starting to see things my way.

The mess this company is in was a long time coming.

  1. The two-year business plan model of putting out new expansions every 20 months is going to implode upon itself sooner or later. New demographics of players are created every time they add something new, change something, revamp an entire feature, put out a new version, etc. The more demographics are created, the more developmental effort will be needed to feed all these new demographical mouths. There are 10 versions of WoW to date, but only servers that cover 3 versions. All I ever wanted was RDF for wrath, but with how the classic Andies imposed themselves in my expac, I now feel the urge to get LFR put into classic.
My point here is that they polarized demographics and made us resentful of those that don’t fall in line with our ideals.

  2. Creativity. Chris Metzen is one of the geniuses behind WoW’s story. I can tell that the guy has studied world history, politics, in which I see correlations between real life history and the game’s lore. It took inspiration, creativity, etc. for him and the other writers to come up with this stuff. Since Cata, Lore has gone in a weird direction that doesn’t inspire anything. Illidan came back again for Legion or BfA, I forget which, but that was just the company rehashing old lore to fill in fodder for their retail model.
Same thing with the guys that wrote season 8 of GoT; They rushed it, but they didn’t even write it in a way that coincides with the rushing of it; it ruined the story that had been building up throughout season 1-7.
Because they (GoT or WoW) don’t have an understanding of the genre, the lore, the world of fantasy in general.

agree with all this, but not having new lands/worlds would probably get very dull quickly. max 60 is fine because horizontal progression is a thing in osrs and works perfectly. talents would need to mirror tbc/ maybe add some more end game stuff so it can balance with newer/harder raids. different raid sets for sure like tbc/wrath so theres no meme specs. (and since talents would be changed it would only make sense.) overall tho this is the direction we need to go for the future of classic if people arent about it thats fine and they can just play the server according to there preference.

But actually they arent in a mess and they dont have to change anything. You know why? Because youre still gonna sub and play it.

Maybe. Maybe not. I haven’t played classic since BC launched, so we’ll see.

Retail is an absolute farce - a complete joke - no doubt about it. Even so, they know how to keep it profitable enough even though this game is the furthest thing from the money machine or competent MMO it once was.

I once thought that too - that WoWs only real future would be in the abandonment of Retail and rebooting the old game but steering it differently than before. Now Im not so sure. It has potential but I think it will be wasted by devs and players alike. You can change and evolve the game all you want but if the audience doesnt evolve as well then there isnt much point. Plus Blizz tends puts $ ahead of all else which has this way of leaving an indelible mark on the overall experience.

As if Classic is any better? Oh yes, nothing beats being gatekept by GS or not swiping your credit card hard enough to get into GDKP raids. Better yet, being jammed a bot lobby for PvP. But sure Retail is the joke.

no shots here but if ur good enough to be in a main roster lineup for progression/whatever ur guild is doing and can actually clear content this is not a problem

I found the right topic; it was on my old Waf profile from Deviate Delight. It was a discrete topic that didn’t garnish much attention save for a usual troll at the end that, as usual, provides no insight whatsoever.

This, is the real future WoW should be going with; then, they can figure out what to do with retail.

feels bad man
y u no optimism

because selling achieves and glad carries isn’t like the same people doing whaling things in retail
it’s not the game mode it’s the players

omg how did i know the “troll” would be robokapp
if you can’t take the truth train might be best to get off the track
go make you the best wow game evah
you can do it!

I hear that people are really enjoying Dragonflight.

So basically you just want the game to progress to retail without thinking you’re playing retail.

Your first error is believing activision developers are anything like blizzard ones

I can only assume people like OP are just trolling as there is no way Blizz would cancel retail. If anything it’s the side project that is Classic that will get ignored. Glad people are having fun with classic but people like retail as well. No point to cancelling either version as they both appeal to different playstyles and plenty people bounce between both.

all of u vanilla/classic era people only think/debate in extremes. its really sad. very possible to do it correctly like osrs did. stop being so simple/closed minded, u could benefit from it

edit: and if u classify anything beyond vanilla is retail then sure thats not a bad thing  current retail is terrible tho

Using my A-La-Carte mode, if you, or Robbo, think that you can come up with a server that everyone would want to play and is better than what I presented on my topic, I’d like to hear it and I’ll tell you if I would play in it or not.

my man it’s not happening

you’re still playing atm because there’s more of the things you like than don’t like
which is cool
but blizz has to split the baby for a mmo
map editing and the like is for custom servers in games designed to support that
that ain’t wow

i like that gentlemen such as yourself have passion for the game
we can ask for things to be added (or not) and hope blizz listens
if not then re-evaluating where and how you spend your money and time is appropriate
i’m not designing a game for you or for me
i’m playing blizzard’s choice for now
if that changes i’ll just bounce since this ain’t an airport and no announcement is necessary

peace brother
ps if i wanted most of what you asked for in that thread i’d play retail and let classic be

Look I enjoy classic, but the only reason classic exists is because of retail.
How about you grow up and just enjoy the game.

Retail has been fantastic, just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it.
