I think we forget that this game is rated for children. I don’t think Blizzard would keep their “T for Teen” rating if they just allowed people to say whatever they wanted.
Well, I suppose I am going to check out. But if writing "asterisk* asterisk* asterisk* asterisk* " In reference to describing a word (not directed at anyone) is enough to be sanctioned, and considered profanity, then I am at a loss for words.
And I am now un-ironically not clear if what I just wrote above is not considered profanity…
Which is scary
While true that they can’t just allow whatever to be said in game, the player created content is not rated at all. Player created content (Names and chat) are not made ahead of time then reviewed and rated.
Blood and Gore, Crude Humor, Mild Language, Suggestive Themes, Use of Alcohol, Violence
- Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB
That goes for all Blizzard games and platforms. Instead of the game rating, Players have to follow the Code of Conduct for the company. The same policy applies to everything. All games, all chat, all names, etc.
The Code of Conduct is very family friendly - more so than the game ratings individually. Diablo games with an M rating still follow the same no profanity/masked profanity rules.
Yes, there are two different sets of rules. One for the game company, and one for the players. The rules for players are far more strict than what companies are held to.
I have like 8 posts flagged now… So I don’t know. But it doesn’t really mean anything from what I read? Just someone clicked the flag button… which is almost being used as a “dislike” button it seems
Its also possible the ban was my character name “trainme”. Which is an arena healer… and thought maybe it was misinterpreted as inappropriate… but “train the healer” is what its a reference to.
It means others feel you broke the forum rules. You did in fact break them. However THIS particular sub-forum is more about education. Blues will usually edit and try to explain why you can’t do X, instead of just penalize you on the forums.
However, if it is obvious someone knows the rules, and is just breaking them on purpose for whatever reason, then they clean things up and apply a vacation.
If no rules are broken a post that is reported will either be restored, or nothing happens at all. There is no automation to forum moderation outside the notifications you get. Any decisions are done by humans. Either Vrakthris or Orlyia usually on this Customer Support forum.
That has a different penalty system vs penalties for chat, or penalties for cheating. First offense for a name is usually a name change. Nothing more. If someone keeps using bad names, or naming back to the inappropriate one, only then do they apply suspensions. They normally tell you in the email what the category is on that.
Yes, I know the meme, but I’m saying if they didn’t have CoC if they could keep their rating. I was speculating that any game that wanted to be rated E or T had to have a CoC.
Not agreeing with you isn’t trolling. But posting while taking swipes at other posters here - that can absolutely be.
This isn’t GD. Folks here usually report what they believe breaks the rules, not flag for flagging’s sake. For as much as a lot of us hang out here, we tend to be more aware of the rules than the general game population. Just because you may not think you’re trolling or being toxic does not mean that others agree.
A lot of what you’ve posted in this thread, quite a bit would fall under being inflammatory from what I can see, or just misinformation. (Also, yes, slurs and poor language choices have absolutely gotten peoples’ accounts permanently banned eventually when a player hasn’t learned from the extensive suspensions.)
But in the end, one of the mods will make that decision.
What part of “drink beach and go play in traffic you waste of human space” would be picked up by the filter?
what would you bet the same people that flaggedd you “trolling” liked this guys post questioning my intelligence. Don’t see the sanctimonious flaggers stepping in there to protect me
Yes that name would be inappropriate for the game!
To be fair, I am more or less “okay” with the suspension, now that I know what it is for (I think)… but I do feel like it was a case of friendly fire, and I am not the target these types of policies are aimed at… so I had some feedback for how that system could be improved for people like me, who are happy to follow the established rules (e.i, not swear under any circumstance), if I knew that was the actual rule. Be nice to get that point to me without a suspension. Any type of explicit warning about language would have worked. I mean I am already not typing asterisks (even though I think its crazy), because apparently that might be against the rules. Happy to oblige… if I can que some arenas.
IDK if in my 2 years on forums I ever pressed a flag button. I maturely dissagree and carry on. I don’t find it that much “upsetting”.
What exactly is missinformation? Didn’t want to missinform anyone, even though some people mind find it that way. To break this thesis, OP - to who I was trying to explain how things are around here said so himself. Actually confirmed what he, in his 9 posts long journey, experienced.
Yes on forums. However, if one gets banned ingame, can’t they just transfer and buy new game since it’s withing same licence?
I guess. I don’t mind getting my posts removed or account sanctioned. As long as I dind’t insult anyone I think i’m fine.
Nothing.
What part of Kill 10 boars would be picked up as filter? There’s a ‘‘kill’’ and in some cultures ‘‘boar’’ or ‘‘pig’’ is considered a holy animal , but that’s off topic - or is it?
Anyway wasn’t there a dialoge where Garrosh called Silvanas something spicy? What has changed since then?
truly an oversight as it was only a reference to a common phrase in arenas “train the X”, just means target them relentlessly. After suspension, I wondered if name was mistaken for some innuendo, maybe by GM not familiar with arena slang
Imagine being banned for using that kind of nickname. - you probably weren’t banned for it
No, it’s not off topic because my point is you can be pretty nasty to someone without saying a single curse word.
That’s why the filter isn’t carte blanche to say whatever you want.
That name could have other refrences that are not appropriate for wow. Do not play coy!
I don’t, you don’t, the OP doesn’t but our opinion isn’t the only one that matters.
I’m just following along with the conversation.
Fair point and most of my posts were apparently removed, let’s see which ones weren’t.
