You are asking for blizzard to bring back the option to literally leave your keyboard and still get your character to generally where they want to be. Those still exist, they are called flight paths.
But perhaps the crux of this argument is that blizzard wants you to perhaps ‘play’ their game for the fun of it and not walk away from it?
Old flight literally is just swimming through the air to avoid all ground obstacles out of sheer laziness; hold space bar until high enough then auto-derp your way to anywhere you want to go is not fun gameplay.
Dragonriding is the best concept to allow flight in the game before pathfinder, yet not be entirely unengaging and lazy.

Stop comparing dragon riding to previous in game flight. This is your issue. Take time and practice with it and what you will find is its pretty effing awesome. There is a nack to getti g what I call the whoosh effect and once you master that you cab literally fly across the entire dragon isles in one shot. Practice…

having dragged my main toon around to get all the dragon flight coins my main take away from that waste of time is that dragon flight which could be a fun side activity, it is not real flying. dragon flight is more like zip lining, go real fast in mainly one direction and miss most of the environment. why a soaring equivalent of a hover mode was not included at the end of the talent tree just shows blizz is still upset by the subscriber revolt when they tried to get rid of flying altogether in WoD.Not sure if the subcriber base ever recovered from that and pathfinder was the initial punishment. I to have been playing WOW since before BC and flying has always been my favorite upgrade to the game. I dont mind the races and other side stuff, just don’t think any of it is a good replacement.

And why the winged dracthyr need a mount is just plain crazy, even on the boat and the airship, the dracthyr NPCs talk about how they could have flown to the dragon isles faster

The only difference between dragon riding and regular flight is the ability to hover on one and the speed on the other and one making people ill. So it should not matter if both are in game. Choice is a good thing.

Dragonriding would be perfect with two additions.

Ability to “transmog” your dragon into any dragon mount model. Getting old already seeing everyone and their mom on the same blue drake. Sure there’s color variations locked behind renown, but its still the same model.

Ability to hover. Remove vigor regen while hovering. Put a timer on it, a minute or so before you start returning to the ground, so that you can’t just AFK in the sky.

Truth is they made this zone with dragonriding in mind. Not being able to stop midair is part of the challenge now. Travel and Gatherings no longer just a mindless slog around the map, its much more of a hunt and way more interesting now that you have to contend with vigor management. Folks seem to see this as a drawback… but its not. It’s turned a chore into something with actual gameplay. Low lvl, fairly simple and relaxing gameplay, but still gameplay. Frankly I’ve never had more fun node chasing then I have this expansion.
I do feel sorry for folks with motion sickness and the like, but you do still have ground mounts. Maybe they can increase the speed on those so you don’t have to spend so much time in the air.

I think what is really missing is dragonriding needs an air break so you slow down descent for landing more precisely. A pain to do currently if you build up momentum to regain vigor. I find myself doing a lot more slow gliding and not building up alot of momentum to gather herbs. Which is annoying, because without momentum there are pauses in ability to regenerate vigor. Which at that point old world flying would be better.

Dragon riding is lots of fun. I understand some people might not enjoy it and that is normal. I don’t enjoy a ton of the classes or the new evoker gameplay. That doesn’t mean those features should be removed.
At some point, leveling 60-70 will also be possible from other zones and if you want to level in dragon isles you need to dragon ride. Maybe they can add more flight paths? It feels to me that dragon riding is the way the game should have been played all along. Maybe they introduce another mechanic for regular flying? I feel sorry for the ones that get migraines or motion sickness but come on, regular flying is mindless.
Its so easy if you just make an effort to figure it out. I,m old and slow and somewhat unco-ordinated , it comes with age, but i figured it out and i love it. A lot of people make the mistake of using vigor to take off and get high as they can, NO, get as high as you can and drop off the side , then glide until you need vigor. Only ever use vigor to take off if you are on flat ground and theres no high point to jump off. And the same with landing, you dont have to land at full speed, tilt your dragon up wards and it slows him down fast and he can glide down to a landing.
There already isnt fuss using dragonriding. Its easy intuitive and flows incredibly well, im hoping it can replace original flight entirely
I really like dragonflying.
But, I don’t think my gaming experience would suffer at all if there was another player going about 1/3 of my speed on his flying carpet because it’s his preference.
I think Mountain Dew is better than Mello Yello… yet some people disagree with me, and this is fine. I won’t try to shame them for it because doing so would be amazingly stupid.

The dragonriding system really is complete crap and makes be wonder if anyone on the dev team has actually ever seen a bird fly.
