I am also pleading for us to be able to use our regular flying mounts. I get motion sickness very easily and have issues with my wrist that makes it difficult to navigate the dragon flight mechanics. So far, this has not been enjoyable. I’m trying to fly and getting nauseated, in pain trying to do the commands or both.
I understand what they are or were trying to do with dragonflight. Like most of what Blizzard has done, the idea was good but the implementation is bad. I personally feel that dragonriding is TERRIBLE. I am constantly having to wait around for “vigor” to recharge, and I can never get from point a to point b in any kind of reasonable way. It usually takes me a long, long time. The old style of flying worked just fine for me. I wouldn’t mind having BOTH systems available, and needed to use dragonriding occasionally for a particular quest but for just getting around, I greatly prefer the old style of flying by a HUGE margin!!
Do you have all the glyphs? I found DR irritating until I got most of the glyphs. Now, its just super fun. I hope they carry this forward in future expansions. I can fly from the very far North all the way to the bottom of the map without having to stop. Its so relaxing…and refreshing.
but like at 600%
Blizz said later, the game is not even 6 months old and people already complaining. Dragonriding is just mostly gliding around, learn to measure vigor and if you can’t, take a taxi to where you want to go and jump glide to your nearest desired location.
There is going to be a pathfinder and most of it is going to be dragonriding basic achievements. Dev’s put a lot of time, effort and resources into this system I say regular flying near end of expansion.
My solution would be keep both types of flying from this point forward, however, if we want to use DF abilities on a non-DF mount, limit us to like 3 or 4 mounts of our choosing. All other mounts would use the old style of flying.
It makes sense so Bliz probably won’t do it.
I find the new flying to be a bit too distracting. It’s too fast for my tastes… and the rise-and-descend cycle of flying keeps me from enjoying the scenery.
If I were flying with no goals in mind (which I have done) then it’s kind of fun. But it’s a pretty mediocre tool for getting things done, which is what I care about.
I played the free trial and gave it a shot but I won’t bother buying the expansion until old flight is available.
I wish I would have waited. I hate dragon riding.
I don’t hate it but I definitely prefer the decreased speed and superior precision of old school flight.
Based on player reviews of the new flight system, I was unlikely to buy the DF expansion until traditional flight was available… but playing the expansion on the trial makes that definite.
Regular flying should be included in the Dragonflight expansion. The gliding isn’t any good for long distances. While I was gliding over mountains and the sea the glider would just slow down to a stop and just collapse downward. I would then have to wait several minutes until those three bubbles would fill up to start gliding again. Dragon riding is totally inappropriate for World of Warcraft.
Yes, please bring back old flying to Dragonflight. Issues with dragon riding:
- Can’t hover in the air
- Can’t make simple “close quarters” precise flying maneuvers as dragon riding is either fall out of the sky or go light speed
- If I want to just “afk” fly in a straight line from X to Y while updating my music, checking wowhead, etc. I end up falling out of the air because I’m not staying 100% engaged to my flying experience at all times
ex. camping 3 rare spawns all about “2 mini map distances apart” - far enough to make me want to flyer mount up, but not so far that I need to go light speed to get to them in the air. With dragon riding I either fall out of the air by not using a momentum action or or hit the momentum action and fly 3x past my objective.
WoW has this weird way of releasing new “xpac only” features that I’ve not seen in other games. For example, when mounts released for GW2 they were game changing and could be used EVERYWHERE. I could go bunny hop up the human capital, gryphon fly across the starting areas, etc. Don’t understand why WoW devs can only code area specific features - add dragon flight to the rest the game and add old flying to Dragonflight, please and thank you.
Also - it’s time for any race + any class, it’s not 2004 anymore.
This is a big one. idk dragon riding feels “slippery” if that makes sense
Thank you for your TED talk. I agree fully and similar to you, WOW is my game. I am a wow player since day 1 of game release. I have subscribed all those years and all those expansions. Flying was THE greatest thing they did to the game IMO. I have anxiety over new expansions where I am stuck on the ground. I play wow to chill and relax. I am not a big raider, not a big mythic grinder, none of that. I play to explore, do some achievements (the ones that don’t induce anxiety), and collect pets and mounts (which Dragonflight expansion have made ?moot?, I mean…what? Dragonriding “seems” like a rush for some people. For me it is anxiety as I want to get where I am going to do what it is I plan on doing and I don’t need to have the flipping car run out of gas along the way and have to wait to build up vigor. I mean did I miss the button to tell your dragon to hover? The people saying Dragonriding is the greatest thing are entitled to their opinion, but I have to feel they play the game differently than I do. I have logged off and walked away from the game more now in Dragonflight than I have ever. The “work” of the game I want to “play” is getting to be more than I am willing to put in. I am very hopeful Blizz will put regular flying “in” this expansion. Also, someone further down in the replies to this says putting regular flying in would ruin the auction house economy. That ship has long since sailed. The update where they linked all auction houses made that a reality. Except for a short burst where a thing is in high demand, most EVERYTHING is worth silver now.
Wait, so Blizzard finally makes flying instantaneous, free, and engaging with both zone design specifically built for dragon riding AND having a tier tree to further enhance the ability…
And it’s still not enough for you.
How are you people not entitled, again?
True: If you applied real world physics to practically everything in the sky in WoW right now, it’d all drop out of the sky like rocks. This ‘realistic flight’ argument is just bunk.
I don’t think you’re understanding what people are actually saying
Meh - it’d be so slow though
Most, if not all, of the people I’ve seen who want regular flying either find the slower speed to be fine or even preferable. I’d like the slower speed, for one. Plus we want both systems to exist so you can still go fast if you want
Actually I think Dragon Riding should have come much much MUCH later in the leveling experience. Here was my launch day experience for Dragonflight:
- Durotar - TONS of people, more than their phasing tech can handle apparently as I got disconnected multiple times and then spent the next 2 hours trying to port to the new area. Sadly, this was also the most player immersive experience in the entire expansion for me so far
- Zepplin lands in Dragonflight - tons of people get off my boat, but within 5 minutes they’re 90% phased away.
- 2 hours in I learn Dragonflight - from here on out it’s pretty much a single player game. I RARELY see other players and I feel like I skipped a good 75% of the map flying around everywhere while I proceeded to do the entire expansion in a day or two thanks to flying
There’s something to be said for holding back flying and instead learning and experiencing the beautiful zones on FOOT for the first play through. Though that still won’t fix the horrific phasing issue that makes the game feel like a single player game now.
Fully agree.
Related to xpac only features, I really dislike that when a new xpac opens up, one is holding a ton of things that no longer work unless you are "in zone x from xpansion ". What is wrong with making things have less efficacy at higher levels instead of not working at all? Sorry player, your invisibility potion JUST STOPPED WORKING because you are now 1 level higher. Engineering things are a classic case of “cool things” that only work in zone x (which you will almost never go into ever again). I worked to get the rep to buy the recipe/pattern to make the thing to use the thing (but Blizz limits you to only using it in these here zones and only while you are at this level or lower). Some will say, well you could just go farm easy mats in the old zones to make invis potions and not have to farm current mats. My response is, “Figure it out Blizzard.” The design where everything previous expansions is now useless needs to go away. If a person has all the expansions, they should be able to use all the engineering items, everywhere at any level, always.
