A plea to Blizzard for regular flying in Dragonflight

I had a talk with a couple of dev’s on this very topic I suggested for regular flying at least give us a upgrade to the fight speed it’s been the same for along time. My suggestion was bring us up to 350-375 this is still slower then the fight vendors and for Dragon flying at least let us have flying for our Dragon mounts we’ve got while playing WoW through all these years with the normal speed of 310. This is just my suggestions, but I agree sometimes all I want to do is fly, farm and loot with my friends just have fun not having to grind and manage anything.

Honestly dragonflying is murder on my ADHD. I miss normal flying cause i would multi task as i flew. I got to experience the world around me. Look up things, be able to use discord on my phone or pay attention to the tv.

I cant do that with dragon flying.

Updated opinon: I still hate it and, again, I would still prefer SLOW FLIGHT to having to use dragonriding.

  • I can’t look at anything while flying because my dragon runs out of vigor and whatnot.
  • Said dragon is also going too fast for me to see anything I want to look at anyway.
  • It’s yet another ‘RUSH TO 70’ aspect that I didn’t ask for because seeing the worldbuilding and details is the whole reason I play the game. (So good job taking away my reason for playing I guess?)
  • I can’t stick to ground mounts because the whole continent is built around flying. And yes, I keep trying lol.

Blizz, please just… give us a choice instead of forcing features on us. Please.

It will come.

Also traditional flying has far FAR MORE advantages like

Hovering in the skies

Take screenshots of a certain location

Be safe from aggressive npc

Stay out of sight

Stay out of reach

Friendly towards motion sickness

I love Dragonriding honestly, but its not fun at low graphics, and I have to take a break after doing some of those speedy races, gives me a little headache.

Did Court of stars and Halls of valor M+ so naturally had to fly there from Dalaran. After doing dragon riding, using a normal flying mount was painful.

The only thing Dragonriding has over regular flying is in Warmode, where flying is always limited due to vigor, and players can’t just fly away from griefers and keep going. There’s not really any escape, unless you’re better at managing vigor than the griefer.

That’s it.

It’s not about one type of flight being superior, or bots, or whatever ridiculous excuse, because bots will always exist, don’t need flying because a lot are apparently subterranean now, it’s sub income even when they get banned because they just resub and Blizz keeps getting their money, and players on regular mounts have zero affect on players using their DR mounts. None. DR is faster. It’s not like they’re going to beat you somewhere even if you need to stop for a vigor regen.

IT’S ABOUT PVP.

It would be great if you all were honest, but that’s impossible for cowards.

Griefers are why PvP is dead, Warmode exists instead of entire servers, and most players won’t turn it on even for the exp bonus.

There’s absolutely nothing about regular flying that affects Dragonriding when both exist simultaneously.

Which flying will depend on your choice of mount.

Just stop with these selfish, hurtful, narcissistic threads that are passive-aggressively demeaning the disabled WoW players who cannot physically manage Dragonriding.

I bet you have two working arms with two working hands, so one can use the keyboard and the other the mouse. Or have ever once had vertigo so bad you ended up in the ER.

Lucky you didn’t see combat in Afghanistan and get your lower arm blown off. Or have cerebral palsy affecting your limbs and can’t do both keyboard and mouse simultaneously.

There are many players with disabilities who play this game who can use regular flying but Dragonriding is an impossibility.

Try, for once, thinking about anyone other than yourself.

Totally agree.

And there’s no reason not to have both.

I know this wasn’t directed at me but I’d like to answer nonetheless. YES. Absolutely.

Confession: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE :two_hearts: LOVE :heartpulse: LOVE :sparkling_heart:DRAGONRIDING!!!

The first thing I did when I got my drake was to immediately get all the glyphs! I can’t describe how relaxed I am now about playing and enjoying the new content because flying for me is by far the best feature of the game.

Because I have Dragonriding I don’t feel the necessity to do chores just so I’ll be ready when Parhfinder is finally enabled.

However, I still want regular flying too because situations have already arisen where I’d really love to have regular flying, like landing to get the bone to get the Barbie Pink frog pet, and just fly around looking at the artwork and getting my bearings.

Travel in WoW is situational and requires different tools for different situations.

I still use ground mounts and take flight paths.

Sometimes after a stressful day, I love to fly around mindlessly herbing on my Druid because it’s so relaxing.

I’m thankful I’m able-bodied and have no problems with Dragonriding. (But I’m old and that could change tomorrow.)

And I love Dragonriding and am having a blast. But I see no reason not to have both.

I am glad to know I can use my ground mount, because it looks like I may need to do that. At almost 73, even though I luckily and finally was able to complete the first part of the flight through the rings, my reflexes aren’t fast enough to manage more than 1 (sometimes 2) of the diving rings, and that’s after countless tries. I was glad to have the bronze timepiece to save time, but other than go back and try different combinations daily, I’m stuck.

Not complaining. I’m glad you “young-uns” who are able to handle the speed and the many differences in flying can do so, but I’d like it better if I could just fly my old drake - speed be damned - and I hope Blizz will consider this change for those of us whose “grey cells” can no longer multi-task as we once did.

If one stops and considers it, this limits severely what some of us are able to do, thereby lessening our enjoyment and keeping our cognitive functions from being as sharp as they can be.

Thanks

Would a possible solution be just giving players an option to remove some of the special effects? I was thinking about this tonight. How much of the discomfort is because of actual speed, and how much because of things like the racy white lines blurring by as your dragon flies? What if it stayed functionally the same, with some of the visuals toned down?

I would make use of this for certain. I would turn them on to try and see them once, but otherwise u prefer things toned down a lot of the time.

Editing to fix spelling because my phone is a petulant child.

I’d honestly use both regular flying and Dragonriding interchangeably. They both have their unique uses.

Why does it have to be an either / or scenario? There is nothing wrong with options. Let’s have both.

Pretty sure blizz didnt add this and say well its going to cause some players issues and will mess with them. Lets 100% do it, screw those guys.

Its flying in a game, its faster and other than that isnt much different than regular flight. So accounting for all the little things people have going on is impossible. Sucks that it is this way but thats life

I don’t get all the whining. Dragon riding is new, different, fun. It’s less precise than the old method and I would prefer that for mining or gathering herbs. Getting around in this xpac would be very different if we were stuck on ground mounts, In fact, I’d say the whole current terrain would be impractical.
I was never a fan of making players wait months for flying and I’m glad we got the dragon riding immediately in this xpac. I never understood the reasoning for delaying flight. I would prefer to get regular flight right away but that’s obviously not going to happen.
It seems that dragon riding creates real problems for some people. I sympathize and so should Blizz but I’m betting the company is just too obdurate to change. Players making snide remarks about folks who have physical trouble with dragon riding is obnoxious and rude.

Dragon riding is not fun . but after you find a mage to port you to main city its not needed . Took me 3 days to get every flight path ,there are so many of them you can ground mount most every where .

You do know that Pathfinder was a big middle finger to the player base who wanted to keep flying, right? This is no different. Create an entire expansion based around flying, but only if you use a stupid mini-game to do it! Blizzard is really this petty and contemptuous of the people who pay their salaries.

Yeah they definitely did this to be petty and not to give us a much better version of flying that just afk alt tab flying.

Painting with awful broad strokes there, aren’t we? Just because someone said it on the internet doesn’t make it true, just like repeating it doesn’t make you some kind of expert. Dragon Riding is a fidget-spinner that lets you do exactly what Ion said that the devs didn’t want you to do, skip over content. You’re engaging with the stupid mount instead of the “world”. They didn’t “give” you anything.

Play Classic.

Times change.

Dragonriding is Forward and Progressive.

I think the devs certainly did this with fine intentions. The problem is that it’s not a better version of flying from everyone’s perspective, so it would be nice to have both options available for people who prefer the old flying.
