Wut? No they aren’t lol. This is prime example that you have never played the game considering at the end of ARR you and the Scions are literally on the run trying to save yourselves from death.
This was literally a narrative arc in ARR/Heavensward. The Scions ended up being scattered and had to take refuge in another kingdom.
Yet your OP doesn’t even mention WoW.

FFXIV is one of the best MMOs on the market and a direct competitor of WoW. Dawntrail also released right around the corner of TWW which releases shortly.
The comparison is due to the fact that FFXIV’s performance has an indirect impact on WoW as it draws from it heavily, albeit in very inferior ways.
For all intents and purposes, FFXIV is objectively worse than WoW in most ways not limited to:
- Class design
- World narrative
- PvP
- Creative liberties in regard to system designs
- Landscape design and raid design (not to be confused with ENCOUNTER design)
- Dungeon design
It’s important to have these conversations because the health of FFXIV affects the market as a whole due to being the second largest juggernaut by market share.

That’s kind of a silly issue with the story though. Whom exactly is a threat to someone capable of fighting and downing ultima weapon at that point in the story?

This is unclear.
Only to protect you from a specific all out attack. It also ignores all the other feats you’ve accomplished to that point that no one else could.
For FF14’s story to work, you do kind of have to ignore that a whole lot of problems could be solved pretty easily by the WoL just cracking some skulls, until Zenos comes along and shows you whats up.

Not really. FF XIV targets a different subset of gamers than WoW. There may be some overlap but they don’t share the same market demographic.

I have no interest in FFXIV, or any other version of that game. I find it curious that anyone would be so obsessed with both SLs and FFXIV that they would post the deep dive screed you started the thread with. It’s almost as though you’re an employee of a PR subcontractor who thinks copying and pasting some ChatGPT analysis will make TWW look better.
