Fixed! 7/8/2021
I updated to 9.1.0.39335, and the stutter is gone while I have Shadowlands zone maps open (Ardenweald, the Maw, Korthia, etc), but the stutter is still there while I have âThe Shadowlandsâ map (the one that shows all of the SL zones) open. Almost there!
I can confirm this also. The stutter is gone when looking at specific zone maps but when you look at the map that shows all the zones the stutter is still there. Please fix this as soon as possible.
Thank you very much for all your help and interaction with us. It means a lot
This has fixed the map stuttering, but unfortunately the quest lag (picking up / handing in a quest, picking up a quest item, killing a quest mob, entering a WQ / bonus event area) seems to still be persisting.
Fixed both the map issue and the quest objective update issue for me! Killing mobs no longer seems to trigger the stutter. So far I havenât noticed it in any other scenarios either (like zoning to a new area) but will comment again if that changes.
Edit: Iâm not having any issues with the larger (all of Shadowlands) map open either.
Also no more stutter on zoning into new areas/new named parts of the zone, or on turning quests in. This has definitely fixed ALL the stutter issues for me! Not sure why some of them still seem to be persisting for some.
The individual zones work fine now without any stuttering but when the map is set to the overall shadowland map ( that shows all the separate zones) the stuttering still occurs, I have tested this on both my pcâs and laptops, hopefully its not too hard to fix up !
Cheers
Now that it is âfixedâ on PC, the issue is now present in all zones while playing on Mac, not just Shadowlands zones. Originally, I experienced the stutter and lack thereof in congruence with the PC users, so I was following this thread. Guess I have to go make a thread over there now, but I hope you will pass along that it broke more things for other people.
Edit: i may have to revise this post as I realized itâs only happening on one character, the others seem to be okay. Will report back, not sure why that character is still experiencing this.
Okay, thanks for the information so far folks.
It seems like this is at least mostly resolved. Some players are reporting that using the all Shadowlands Zones map is still having issues. If you havenât already posted and are still having that issue, please let us know so we can see how prevalant it is. It may be worth testing a UI Reset for players who are having stuttering on that map, since not everybody who was having problems earlier is having that problem post fix.
PLEASE NOTE that for the sake of keeping this thread focused on a single issue, we will not be troubleshooting performance issues that are not related to the map. Please start your own thread or contact support if you need help with any other type of performance issue.
This is true, it seems like the problem improved greatly and I too thought it was now fixed with the recent update, but if I navigate the map menus, clicking various zones/continents etc, I still can see frame drops. I have had the map issue since 9.1, I disabled all addons and still had the same issue. I usually donât UI reset when Iâm rather confident itâs not my end but I can, can also upload a video of exactly how it looks when the frames drop and what I do to cause them consistently to drop
It seems like the loading of the map when cycling through zones just causes the frames to drop a lot
That kind of info is always helpful, Sapporo. If you can get a vid post-UI reset itâll give us something to show the QA squad and see if they can repro it. Itâll also help to know some info about your PC in case we need to dig out a specific computer in our test location.
The best info for that would be in a DXDiag, which you can create using these instructions. Once you have that made, open the file. Copy the code below, then copy/paste everything from that DXDiag file between the rows of tilde (~) marks where it says âDXDiag goes here.â

DXDiag goes here

If the fileâs too large to submit, you can upload it to a file hosting site like pastebin and post the link in the code above instead.
reset ui, I cap my frames at 60 btw, and it starts out at 30 since i was altabbed, I know the encoding/resolution isnt the best but you can see my fps on the ui
I jump around to show the frames stay 60, and then you can see upon opening and navigating map, the frames spike, probably worse for people that donât cap frames
dont mind the source blocking chat lmao
edit: to me it seems like even though I have a SSD, the âloadingâ of map textures somehow takes away from frames, my frames will drop during high harddrive demands like windows updates of wow background downloads sometimes even before 9.1, the overall issue from before is definitely fixed as the game was close to unplayable with quest completes and just having the map open causing worse frame drops than what this is- âif it aint broke dont fixâ I dont want the problem from before coming back!
Issue was 100% resolved in all SL zones yesterday, now occuring again.
False alarm, was world quests list addon. Disabling it fixed the issue.
Thank you for the speedy fix Blizz. In the world of coding I know these issues can be challenging.
have done the reset method mentioned by Drakuloth on both my desktops and laptop but the overall shadowlands map stuttering still persists, I think most people might not be looking into the overall map for the stuttering issue as it isnât used all that often, hope this helps cheers
Just want to note Iâm playing on a MacBook and the issue seems to be fixed for me after the last update so it doesnât look like this is specifically related to whether someone is on a pc or Mac.
Itâs definitely not a matter of people who say itâs fixed just not realizing itâs still a problem on the zoomed out map. I tested the overall shadowlands map, and multiple other zones/continents, and everything seems fine, so whatever is causing this is weirdly fixed for some but still broken for others.
Now on the characters who seemed to have been fixed, the issue is still occurring in Revendreth on the regular zone map on all characters. It is less pronounced but still moreso than others zones. The other zones seem ok.
I edited my post because it was bizarre and occurring everywhere for only one character. Once I logged into the others, I realized it was mostly fine on those.
To revisit my post from above, Iâm still unable figure out why one character has this problem in every zone in the game suddenly with this fix. Complete UI reset and without addons present did not fix it. No response on my forum post in Mac forum.
My issue is never continuous while the map is open, only juttering while the map first opens and closes, so since I can only open to the zone map initially, I canât test whether this particular map is an issue on my end, and I wonder if itâs the same for others.
Hi guys, I just re tested for the stuttering frame timings and it seems to be back but they have been some improvements, have made this video going over what I have found, hope it helps the Devs fix this faster !
Any update?
