9.1 is almost out

Everyone said this about BfA though, that it was the filler expansion until Shadowlands. Now look where we are hahaha.

Not sure I saw anyone ever say that.

We said it was a dumpster fire and abysmal the moment you got past 9.0.5, but not the filler arc.

Shadowlands is so much of a filler arc that it’s storyline is not even in the place people care about. BfA at least had the awareness to go “Hey, Zandalar and Kul Tiras are still yet to be explored and have lore people are invested in, lets go there!”

That said, rest of BfA was dumpster fire for so many reasons and the fact it thinks a sense of victory comes from everyone by Sylvanas fanboys, orc lovers and specifically Alliance humans getting punched in the gut for 2 years straight and then turning around and going “But you got so much!”

they always say this because it’s technically true, you can have like five people in a room sketching out art assets and doing broad-strokes story and gameplay beats

Last I heard they typically work two expansions out from whatever is currently playable.

So, unless you mean to say, “My friend says they scrapped the two expansions they were working on because this cosmic powers dumpster fire is exploding in their faces,” I’m not sure that this is anything new.

I’m really not sure how they can fix WoW right now. Any sense of trust or goodwill to the current developers is long gone. Bandaid/Hail Mary solutions aren’t going to cut it anymore. Dev conceit has been a rampant and glaring problem for too long, and while it’d be nice to think Activision-Blizzard getting sucker-punched in the bank account will result in a shake-up with positive developments, I just don’t see it happen.

The Devs hate their players.

THey’re free to hate us all they wish.

It’s not -our- paychecks at risk since Final Fantasy 14 will shed a tear for them while wiping their eyes with money.

Eventually, someone who has been a cancer will be axed and the process will begin anew.

You’re right, its not our paycheck that is at risk. Its our investment in a game and franchise many of us have loved since we were children that’s at risk.

Is this current crop of Developers filled with enough pride, as well as spite and hate for their players to bring the game down as a final kick to the groin?

I’m beginning to think they are.

I’d agree they probably are but only time will tell and the only truth is that none of us can say for certain if they will, or if people invested in their paycheck bring it back from the brink.

Hell, we might just see them end retail WoW and turn WoW Classic into WoW2 following Classic Wrath to do a soft reset button after the part people loved most but set up having enough ground to cover again we can get reinvested in a world that has not yet been gutted, but gets injected with enough of the previous to make odd but interesting, deviations.

I doubt it. From what I’ve read, TBC hasn’t been doing as well as Classic did. Granted they are looking into new fresh classic vanilla with alterations if that survey that went around is any indication.

If they were going to do a reset, I think they’d be better off starting from the bottom up. Pull a FFXIV, end WoW as it is with a, “You lose, this wasn’t the right timeline,” and then create a new updated engine and start WoW without the massive story flaws everyone hated.

For example, let’s look at the Horde.

There is NO reason the Horde cannot have an appealing aesthetic in either it’s races or its settlements. Orgrimmar is supposed to be an oasis city. Look at how gorgeous Uldum is with the settlements around the river. Orgrimmar, as an oasis city, should have more vegetation than we see, some greens to break up the endless orange and brown, etc…

I’d also argue the Forsaken should not be a part of the Horde.

It never made sense that Thrall of all people allowed a Dreadlord into the Horde in a position of authority, but Varimathras came with the Forsaken. Speaking for myself I’d rather have seen the Forsaken join the Illidari. Illidan had already had a good number of Nathreziem wheedled away from the Burning Legion, and Varimathras would’ve made for an excellent figurehead for them. Likewise I can’t imagine Varimathras betraying Sylvanas when Illidan and the Demon Hunters are around.

Passing over all of that, I also think we need to see a return of the WC3 era Alliance, one nigh paralyzed by political infighting and maneuvering. Storylines regarding politics can be quite good if done well, and some of the most criminally underutilized narrative elements in the Alliance includes the Stormwind House of Nobles and the Ironforge Senate.

The issue with changing that much is that you’re going to upset chunks of the community. Hell, you’re already likely to agitate the troll community since the reset likely means no more Zandas which is something many really wanted.

Short of WoW doing a reset as managed where just enough is rolled, but you inject some of the old in (i.e, how you’d bring characters over and the such) it has it’s own risks.

You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Blizzard seems to be in the “live long enough” portion of such a statement.

Having to pay extra to move over to TBC, to say nothing of the Racial imbalance that plagued the actual game which is causing almost no one to actually be playing Alliance there probably has something to do with it.

They struck a gold mine with how well received Classic was, and then they promptly hit a septic line with aggressive monetization.

Literally everyone: “So if you had perfect access to the Shadowlands all this time, why did you not say that something fishy might have been going down? You would think you would at least recognize the new powers Sylvanas has right?”

Death Knights: “Hrmphh, you didn’t ask.”

Yee-ep. All our favorite characters are pants-on-head idiotic if it means making sure <3 Sylvanas <3 was the smartest person in the room.

i think ive heard that argument used for literally every single expansion 'cept for legion that ive played

Not to mention the whole machine of death being broken and sending everyone to superhell. You would think they would sense something was up let alone sense whatever reality-breaking event that caused the arbitor to https://youtu.be/Gb2jGy76v0Y

That leak is fairly interesting.

To be fair, I think adding in Allied Races as sub-races would be the easiest way to address it.

For example, Dwarves. Lorewise, the Thorium Brotherhood had essentially already left Blackrock Mountain because of disagreements with the rest of the Dark Irons. There is no reason they couldn’t have wound up friendly and working with the Alliance, thus enabling players to create a Dark Iron Dwarf.

When it comes to Zandalari, I think vanilla did a good job of establishing them as a protagonist faction as is, which would have fit in well with the Horde. There’s no reason Rastakan couldn’t have opened diplomatic channels or at least allowed trade, giving the Horde a presence in their harbors, and allowing curious Zandalari to walk through the Horde’s lands and support them.

I’d argue Zandalar and Kul Tiras could exist in the base games as purely open zones; no quests, but players can go there for the sake of immersion or even just resource gathering.

For races that don’t necessarily fit into that early narrative (Vulpera, Pandaren, etc…) or races that might hopefully never come to exist in the narrative at all (Void Elves), giving players who unlocked such races in WoW 1.0 a series of toys to transform into them would seem like a fair compromise. Something for the players who loved those races to embrace them even if the story isn’t immediately ready to do so (or in the case of Void Elves a lesson was learned about bad writing, so they’ll never exist).

Which leak?

Sorry, I’m just catching up to the rest of the thread–the “leak” you originally posted is what I’m referring to. I concur that it should probably be taken with not total faith, but a lot of what’s being reported seems to fit within what we already know (or at least, it seems that way to me).

I wouldn’t begrudge anyone for rolling their eyes at it (I admit that my own evidence for it is purely instinctual and I wouldn’t submit it as proof of anything), but I also do believe that Blizzard is probably pretty concerned with twitter optics right now. I think they’re probably finding some support there and not many other places, which seems logical since I don’t think companies have gotten the memo that twitter is an abominable site yet.

But, as I said, this is just total speculation on my part. I obviously have as much insight to the company as anyone else here, which is to say we are all of us just sifting through the ashes trying to make sense of it.

As someone who routinely roleplays Ogres I don’t think using a toy to be a Pandaren, Vulpera, etc. would be very fair to the people who love those races. I love Ogres and I know how frustrating it is needing a toy or illusion just to play one. If WoW were to be redone it should be in a way all the available races are still playable. Maybe for Void Elves instead of a race they just have the customization options, but races like Pandaren and Vulpera should still be there. I agree with the rest of your post though! I think it would be nice to have quests in Zandalar and Kul Tiras just to have something to do over there. It would also be nice if their capitals were full blown capital cities like Org and SW so people have more reason to hangout there.
