Yes. Hated it. I unsubbed from Vanilla and didn’t come back until flying was added.
This is the quote from Watcher, back when they reverted the nerfs to the striders last time (thanks to Kiwi for reminding me of it):
"We don’t have any concern with water-walking as a concept, and the various player abilities and consumables that provide it are a great source of convenience. We’re not trying to make travel less convenient, or restrict player freedom. We observed what seemed like a potential problem, explored some solutions, and clearly the cure has proven worse than the disease. Thank you for your feedback."
In case anyone from Blizzard reads these threads, I thought I’d leave this here.
What happened?
When did the idea that “the cure is worse than the disease” change?
What happened to “not trying to make travel less convenient?”
What happened??
They don’t care anymore.
That was a bunch of hogwash they tossed to us when they backtracked.
Now they can say “oh, we’re making travel MORE convenient cuz you can now water walk on ANY mount.”
Mount equipment wasn’t created to make travel better for us.
It was created to be the distraction a magician uses to make water walking on the strider disappear which is what they have wanted since Legion.
Edit: Actually I worded that badly. They want to be able to control when/if we can waterwalk so they needed to remove the innate ability from the strider in order to do that.
If this is so, why is it bad? They can and should control the game, it’s their proprietary intellectual property. We don’t own it; it’s not ours at all.
Because It’s not behind a rep grind? Anyone can go on the AH and buy it for literally nothing? Druid’s flight form does the same exact thing as well?
Feel free to make that suggestion, then. I’m sure nobody would care either way.
Because they’re not. You can also use a druid, which most players probably have a druid alt with herbing for that specific reason. I always have.
Which is literally what Blizzard made the mount equipment for, to get away from people having to grind out a boring old xpack’s rep to get a mount that ONLY has water walking.
Instead of crying that “Wah I got a wah wah walker I need it to keep water walking” why not suggest every mount get their own unique mount equipment? That way you can put water walking back on the wah wah walker like you want and everyone else doesn’t have to grind out a boring old rep? It’s a win win and a much less selfish suggestion.
True, but if they continue to show such blatant disregard for their customers feedback they will soon have so few customers they will be forced to shut down the servers.
At the moment we pay them to use the digital data they create.
When they cease to satisfy our desires we cease to pay them.
When they cease to satisfy our desires we cease to pay them.
Easy to forsee that very soon.
They can and should control the game
They do control the game. But if the devs doesn’t like people using the Water Stride to walk across water, then it is the devs own fault, since it is the only water walking mount in game.
Yes, I understand that how capitalism works. However, that does not change the fact that if you are even correct on your theory of this diabolically orchestrated conspiracy, then I am glad you agree with me that they should be allowed to do what they want with their own product. If the servers shut down some day, it’s not as if it will have any effect on any of us. I mean, it’s not like you have emotions wrapped up in a video game, much less a pretend mount or anything.
if the devs doesn’t like people using the Water Stride to walk across water, then it is the devs own fault, since it is the only water walking mount in game.
Ok, it’s their fault? I don’t follow what you mean. Why does it matter what they want to do? Because as you said:
They do control the game.
Read that post again, then you’ll understand it.
Which part?
Because It’s not behind a rep grind? Anyone can go on the AH and buy it for literally nothing? Druid’s flight form does the same exact thing as well?
Whats a rep grind got to do with it, the rep is easy to do. even easier with time walking… And thats what they call a ‘reward’
Because they’re not. You can also use a druid, which most players probably have a druid alt with herbing for that specific reason. I always have.
And shamans and DKs cam water walk… Class perk.
Which is literally what Blizzard made the mount equipment for, to get away from people having to grind out a boring old xpack’s rep to get a mount that ONLY has water walking.
Again, a rewards from doin previous content. If that was the reason though, they couldve added the emerald water strider to a BFA faction, its existed in the game files for several years now.

As i said in a previous post, my big beef is the fact it only change only negatively affects one mount while the other mount with a unique ability is left alone. make all mount with unique abilties function the same.
Blizzard have wanted to remove water walkng mount completely since legion. And looking at how this system is being handled is somewhat obvious that was the goal all along.
Like the portal room change, they wanted to remove things but they dress it up so it looks like a positive change.
The water strider was never a problem until blizzard decided it was
fact it only change only negatively affects one mount while the other mount with a unique ability is left alone
Yes, like I told you, it’s quite evident that is because there is no mount equipment that will allow for its ability. If there is someday harvesting equipment, people will be here upset that the golem has become “just a mount” which is what the strider is now. However, at that time, just like with the strider, others, who like the golem as their favorite mount, will likely be happy of the change because they will be able to have any of the other mount equipment on it, instead.
There could of added that ability through mount equipment with no effort, its not a mechanical issue or anything because the same can be achieved with consumable stirrups.
Their intent is to make water walking am option, but they want it to be the less useful option so no one takes it.
It coming out in the same patch flying does means it will be mostly ignored by players once they can fly.
I can see the current equipment getting a “only usable in X” content by next expansion so new equipment can be put behind gates.
So, my take on this is that this is the test run. This is to set up this new system and get it working. With most of us flying and such, it will allow them to get it working. However, whether or not is is easy to implement, is, frankly, irrelevant. They must have their reasons, which, contrary to your conspiracy theories, neither you or I know.
What we can focus on, is what we do know. And, we know that your strider will no longer have the water walking.
Now, one of us (me) is a rational person and I have accepted this change. I cannot do anything about it. It’s not my game, and the devs will do whatever they think is best, and rightfully they should, letting the free market decide if the ideas are good or bad.
Others (not me and not you) will be happy with the news because they are going to be able to use their equipment on their favorite mount- the strider- and have it slow fall or anti daze, rather than being shoehorned into it only walking on water.
Others, (not you) will be happy that they can now water walk on their favorite mount which is not the strider.
Finally, others (you) will be illogically and irrationally upset over something that you cannot change, and you will spend enormous amounts of energy and time complaining about the thing that does not really matter and in 10 years you’ll never even think about because of how utterly meaningless it was in your life. You will repeat the same lines and theories and such, round and round, and your threads will reach into the thousands of posts, most made by the same few people.
I can’t stop you from doing that any more than you can stop the devs from doing whatever their plans are- insidious or otherwise. However, as you will say, you will still try you futile attempts to complain about this one mount on a video game, and I, foolishly, will continue trying to be the voice of reason to pull a fellow human being out of the abyssal neurotic obsession that is leading them to pour so much emotion, energy, and time into something completely vapid.
The water strider was never a problem until blizzard decided it was
Yup, they don’t want to force people to grind and get the water strider and ONLY use that one. Hence why every mount can use water walking now.
Now, one of us (me) is a rational person and I have accepted this change. I cannot do anything about it. It’s not my game, and the devs will do whatever they think is best, and rightfully they should, letting the free market decide if the ideas are good or bad.
Most will complain, but continue to pay because they have an emotional attachment to the game and the items they have earned (not you). That is actually understandable to someone with some empathy (not you and not Blizz).
You can’t stop them from posting and they can’t stop you from posting to complain about their posting. You don’t seem like a voice of reason so much as a sanctimonious person looking for a pulpit.
And the theories people are putting out in some cases are exactly right. If you think their theories make Blizz sound “insidious”? Well that is your interpretation since many here have just stated their belief and made no judgments good or bad about it. Your interpretation of those theories only say something about you.
Ok, ok, just adjust the tin foil hat a bit more to the left. And, do not speak of empathy because you are not empathizing with anyone that WANTS this change. That is, anyone that is happy about it, you turn a blind eye to. So, you’re actually the very thing you accuse me of looking like.
Thank you for continually responding and keeping our thread going.
You’re welcome, like I said, I am compelled to try and help. It’s an issue I have always had where I do my best to bring reason and sense to people that are exhibiting irrationality. It’s rare- very rare- that you can pull them from their “crocodile brain” and into the neocortex. But, when you do and they are freed from being trapped in a negative place, it’s rewarding. Plus, I’m bored waiting for 8.2.
Ooh, Kiwì is responding!
Aw darn, they stopped.
