Yes, it has. Because for a period of time, people bought into the lies; people became somewhat lazy and said “well, we can stop complaining because we have the CC and Blizzard will finally listen”. That is a negative. Blizzard only does what we want when we hit their wallet - the angrier the player-base, the more likely we are to see the change we want, and therefore, jebaiting the player-base and placating them makes us less likely to get what we want which is a negative.
The council was just a PR move… It has no real punch at all…
99% of topics are stuff that isnt causing the game to suck. I mean tmog? No one leaves the game over that. Pet battles? Player housing and other meaningless topics.
What these devs shoulda done was sent out surveys to people that have left the game and asked them why. Then take that feedback and actually fix the real problems with the game.
And a little addition… They only picked people with similar opinions and its obvious. They didnt pick people who are harsh with their criticisms and opinions. They didnt pick super outspoken people to take advice from… Its basically yes people IMHO.
This is an old CC thread, but addresses some of what you’re talking about.
CC was bad because it was exactly as so many people said; There wasn’t any casuals except for 2 people the rest were top tier players and few RPers.
I don’t like this community council business. Those people post on there for blizzard to see and then they come into this section and try to bully people to agree with them.
I actually don’t think they should be allowed to post in GD, if the rest of us can’t post in their section.
Agreed.
That was the best part, though.
Honestly, you would get more interest from the community if you brought up more realistic questions in the forum.
A type of question to ask:
Large amount of players want to see 4th specs for rsv, glad, frostfire, etc. Is there any plans for these?
Then go into the positives for their implementation. This is from a community perspective, NOT a personal perspective. So your going to address it as "the community has expressed undieing support for these specs. The community has established a, b, and c. Etc…
Only then, if you feel like you must, add a personal note. This follows the glass-half-full approach and your addressing the question from a communal perspective. Coming at it from a personal standpoint doesnt weigh much, its just one person’s opinion.
Type of question NOT to ask:
I feel that msv is better for lore, dont you think blizz? Then spout off some garbo about lore and hunters then say its my opinion that hunters should be melee, period.
Of course im emphasizing it, but you get my point.
Exactly what im talking about… A thread? Most people that left do not come here and havent in years.
If blizzard devs really wanted to know why people left theyd get those who are super critical of the game on the CC and send out the surveys to those that left. We know they wont though.
Not gonna mention names but there are many public figures that are very outspoken about the game that didnt get a CC spot and should have.
Exactly…
Thats by the whole issue all along. Blizz pushed a bunch of yes-men on it and nothing gets done.
As I mentioned on OP, during the video Devs mentioned regular livechats, CC current members already have over 1/2 their period without those and could bring topics like a Q&A with Devs, Also the whole mechanic was promoted like a good feedback tool but if Devs doesn’t reply constant it won’t be perceive by the general community as something that provides results, we got a spike of dev interaction and then silence which maybe means they’re busy with 9.2 and now 10.0…etc, at least I thought that this requirement for feedback will lead to a 1-2 hour Dev time per week or even bi weekly to response some threads on those forums, however the ratio between Devs response, Interaction and CC threads is abysmal even when not all the CC members do post, most of Blue post are general questions about a patch or future content but not something specific like other threads from CC members.
Aside from pushing a survey any time someone cancels their sub I’m not sure there is a good way to do that.
Many public figures already have a contact at Blizzard to give direct feedback to.
Not worth any more of my time.
This was the entire problem. They took their secret forum, made it public, and only filled it with players who were:
-
Too scared that they may upset Blizz so they said nothing critical
-
Top tier players who are by far the happiest with the current state of the game.
Blizz needs to ask itself why are other MMOs doing well and getting praise while WoW continually seems to have an issue with casual players?
I am neither of these things.
And while I disagree with some of their takes, Maizou is very critical of blizzard and a casual player. To name another.
Exactly.
For us who tested alpha/beta SL, we ALL knew there was private forums for the yes-men. They would screw up sometimes and put it on the normal forums. Of course blizz would hastily remove it but we always caught on.
I mean, why do you think it feels like normal players contribute and report bugs and give valuable feedback and it just feels like it never gets there or they hit a brick wall? Bc theres that yes-man layer to prevent that feedback from getting to the devs. Mostly bc devs dont want to hear it bc they cant take criticism but also bc blizz doesnt want to come off of cloud 9 and actually recognize that wow is in a bad place.
Idk if id say critical…
More like, slight deterrence.
Those people already HAVE a way to communicate with the CMs and devs. They have for years. The CC is people who don’t already have a public spotlight on them. As in, maybe voices other than the few who have had the dev ears for years.
I don’t think it was a waste
I’m very happy to see pvp issues brought to light by bluster and even if the changes we need don’t happen at least we’ll have tried. To me thats better than the constant non pvpers on GD dismissing our concerns
Blizzard continues to ask for feedback while plugging their ears and screaming loudly! More news at 11!
I’m going to present a groundbreaking solution that is sure to blow people’s minds:
Keep the ability to post new threads restricted to CC members, but let people who pay a sub post inside of the threads so the COMMUNITY can actually discuss these things with the COUNCIL.
Now, I know what you’re all thinking - “oh but the trolling…it’ll just turn into GD-lite!”.
I present an innovative disruptive solution:
MODERATE THE FORUMS!
I’m a genius!
