Community Council is a very bad idea, all it has done is make people who got invited talk with hubris. Nothing more. It is a failure in terms of improving the game, its only succeeded as a PR strategy
You really think Blizzard care. This Council is damage mode from them. They have no intentions of changing a damn thing in this game.
Except that they are already having problems tuning the current classes and specs you think adding another spec to that would make sense? Please pass that peace pipe then.
They are not having trouble, They just cant be bothered tuning
remind me again when they did not have tuning issues with current specs?
if that is your condition to having new classes/specs, then you will never have any more.
“We have read your thoughts but we sincerely disagree in silence”
Disagreeing with someone and downvoting them isn’t abusing the system. Just means they don’t like the idea/post.
I mean that’s actually a staggering amount of replies compared to the usual zero that GD gets.
no we get one a month. Remember when one month it was..."lolz y'all, we gots some legion mounts for 25.99"
Or the usual, we're having an art contest. Print off your favorite NPC then submit your best snowflake cutout. Top prize gets an autographed Yeti mug of a Yeti
Lmao you’re right you’re right
That wasn’t what the feature was for.
To quote former CM Ornyx
We originally added this feature as a means for players to assist with forum moderation by upvoting helpful posts and downvoting inappropriate or toxic posts. In practice, however, we found that it was primarily being used for things like downvoting a post simply because they disagreed with it, which was not the intent, and too often led to different opinions getting unfairly buried.
Now that can still happen with the flagging system, and it does, but Blizzard will restore posts that get false flagged unless they actually are breaking the forum rules and unless you swap to multiple alts, you’re limited on how many times you can flag posts per day.
I’ve never seen a post that was unfairly flagged be UNflagged after the fact for any reason.
Hi Mirasol,
The CM job description you linked includes the following:
“They are a tireless advocate for the voice of the player, constantly seeking to build bridges, trust, and foster constructive dialogue.”
I have been reading these forums daily since 7.3. I took a year off from the game at the end of BFA and came back with TL3 just to give an indication how much I’ve been keeping up with what’s been going on.
The last time I remember anyone from the Blizzard team foster any kind of dialogue, constructive or not, was back around the time when the new forums came online.
Has the position(s) been vacant this long, or is there another reason why they only post official announcements that you know of?
They vetted the Council, its their own fault…
Absolutely this.
I have but it doesn’t happen very often.
When they clear the flag I am unable to flag the post. It gets a “green light” so to speak. It’s not like I’m trying to flag for a second time either, it just doesn’t work. I figured out what happened by reading further in the thread.
That is a very very long discussion. One in which I disagree with Blizzard management on. They SAY they are going to engage and communicate, but they don’t actually do it. Never really have.
The CMs end up under the publishing type rules where what they post has to be reviewed and approved (blogs, news posts, patch notes, etc.) They can’t speak for the Devs without approval either.
If they chat about fluff, which can help build a friendly community, they get heavily criticized too.
Between what Mgt lets them do and the restrictions on them, there is little they can accomplish. I can say it is not the CMs who want it that way. It is more on the Blizzard side where they have PR and legal folks setting restrictions (at least from what I know about it).
I THINK that position was filled. I had the app saved because the question often comes up about what the job description was and I prefer to provide the released one.
I figured that was the case, but I thought I would ask anyways. Thank you for the information.
Their lack of communication has led to a number of issues within the community over the last couple of years. Maybe one day they will change their stance, but I think it’s fairly obvious that radio silence isn’t the best choice.
I like to think so. If Blues were not rare unicorns people might not freak out so much when they post.
However, anything they say gets ripped to shreds, mirco analyzed, spun, taken out of context, and then posted in click videos. Makes it hard to have anything except reviewed and approved statements.
This usually happens when the developers are not part of the players but their own rockstars. The “high above”-attitude - paired with the dishonesty - is what people absolutely dislike about the Blizzard developers.
There is a youtube content creator out there who made comparison videos between the developer interviews (WoW/FF14) and seeing this stark contrast is very upsetting. Hazzikostas and everyone would have a much better time if things were more honest and less of monkey paw-wish every time they bring something back.
I agree with that and always have. It is something Blizz has issues with in particular.
They try to play it very very safe publicly and I think that has not served them well. Not suggesting they not think things through, but a bit more openness would be helpful. There is a lot of distrust to overcome.
