Agreed and I was replying with this before someone deleted while I was typing.
I disagree and have been playing since 2008. It has not ‘always’ been like this. Huge patch, maybe. Xpac release, maybe. BUT every single week now the downtime turns into massive extended downtime. We pay for the game and pay to play it and should be able to within our time of availability. Work behind the scenes is necessary for the game to run at all but it is getting a tad bit absurd and should be addressed. It is like paying for a 24 hour gym membership and once a week they just decide to lock up for a couple of hours so you adjust your time and expectations only to find it’s 5 hours instead of two. I don’t care if it seems petty to others. I am a paying customer and it is not even about compensation, its about my time being as valuable as blizzards.

When ever you enter into any agreement with any company, or any other party for that matter, you either have your expectations and demands in writing or you do not.
If you do, then you have a case to make. If not, then you don’t.
That’s simple Contracts 101.
Actually a lot of do not get to play the other 700+ hours per month because we have jobs and families so we put small amounts of time to the side. Plus you are not factoring in the fact that at least 8-10 hours of the day people are not able to play period due to sleep and eating. Then you factor in life situations and that number drastically drops. But I supposed with your limited data that does not factor life in you must be a democrat lol

Looks like I touched a nerve.
Back in Legion the vast majority of maintenances didn’t have truly noticeable downtime; the realms simply took rolling restarts and were back up within minutes. Not sure what technical reasons caused them to no longer be able to do this, but it has definitely been possible.
One day I’ll be dead and money won’t matter anymore.
Until then, that $4 they gave me in server-down compensation would gladly pay for a sushi roll! Or a bowl of soup? Maybe both, but I’ll definitely have to pitch in an extra ten bucks.
Sorry, it was my turn to fill you in. The vet was performing surgery on the hamsters today. Unfortunately one of them didn’t make it so we had to run to the pet store to get more.
Just quit the game if you are going to devolve into a petulant child over maintenance.
I always wondered why they never looked at their peak server times and just scheduled rolling restarts and preventative maintenance during low operating times.
I have to imagine they could preload updates and roll them out at midnight or 1am, and have a minimal overnight staff to work on bugs or hickups overnight.
Kind of like overnight roadwork rather than rush hour log jams…

well, while this is admirable, I want to play the game AND a day of free time, since I planned my day around playing. but alas.
Even assuming 5 hours a week for the whole month, that is 2% of your total available play-time. We can all start a Go Fund Me for your checks math…30 cents. You will likely find more than that digging in your car seat for a minute.
Doesn’t matter what YOU think about the time. Some people who can only play 1 hour a week on a Friday at 5pm aren’t effected by this. By your comment you know play times and you are just trolling.
