i have screen shots of winning a round yet still given the loss which made me loss pts to reach 1950 on week 2.
I have another screen shot of winning 6-0 and gaining zero rating while having similar mmr compared to everyone else…
I’m tryna stay true to my dawg class by grinding games out but after these 2 blows my ambition to play is gone, im not wasting my time with this dawg company
The rating you gain is based off your MMR. If you have lost consecutive matches in a row, your MMR will tank and even going 6-0 may net you no points gained to your CR. Likewise, you can win multiple matches in a row and go 2-4 or 1-5 or worse and not only not lose points, but may gain rating.
If your end goal is only to earn a specific rating, it’s still early in the season and ratings are low overall which means you’re going to be punished harder as compared to later in the season.
I understand why it works the way it does, but it does feel like quite the kick in the nuts while your down to tank a ton of games, before finally managing to go 5-1 or 6-0, only to get rewarded next to nothing for it lol.
For sure, it’s annoying, but there is some potential upside to it as well. Let’s say you are playing at a rating below your actual ability level and unfortunately had a string of bad queues. It happens… Now you’re say 300 MMR below you ability level and 100 CR off as well. Well, potentially, the next few games might be easier wins with you out performing the other people in your matches by that 200-300 ratings worth of ability. You can then ride that win streak up and hopefully build some padding on your MMR.
I talked a lot about this in a few threads I made outlining my fluctuations in MMR as I pushed to 2400 on different toons.
You can see in some spots where I did drop down and then went on those win streaks and my MMR would often over shoot my ability level. Eventually it settles back in, but during nearly all of this, my CR is gradually going up.
It’s good to bare in mind that while you’re pushing up, you’re often being placed with players that are lower than your MMR. Basically 2 out of every 3 matches my MMR would be higher than the groups average.
In the end, stringing together wins is pretty important. If you have a string of losses, you really have to dig yourself out. In the end, more games played is the best approach if you feel you’re being improperly placed or you’re simply having a string of bad matches.
