197 iLevel Cap Casual PVP

I have zero problems admitting I’m a washed up duelist :sob:. Wtb pvp friends.

How very odd you should say that, when you blizz supporters keep telling us that the only reason anybody leaves the game is because they came to the forum and read something some flamebait troll wrote and decided to substitute his opinion for theirs. That everyone who has never been to the forum is deliriously happy with every part of the game because their opinions weren’t tainted by reading the comments of soreheads.

They’re 2k+ Exp in every bracket including 5s when that was a thing

I think the armory is down, i can’t access my own profile lol

I think it is too. I tried looking up a couple of my chars and it’s saying I’m denied access.

I agree, either scale the gear, so the ilvl gap isn’t so large, or separate the unrated BGs by ilvl brackets, would prefer the first option though, that way BG queue times aren’t affected. To those who have earned the gear, awesome, you still have the gear and it will be it’s high ilvl in rated where you need it, in unrated though, it would be scaled to increase the enjoyment for everyone from the casuals, to the new players, to even you, unless you are the kind that enjoys ganking and defend even ganking lowbies in the open world.

You do realize casuals have gear too right?

Sure, every casual is running around in 226 gladiator gear, that is where the scaling would come in for unrated BGs, maybe have the highest gladiator gear scale to 210 in unrated. Unless you just want to run around oneshotting new players either trying to get started or just casually trying to PvP. You know what happens when I see this kind of thing, I think to myself, do I really want to join in something to be oneshotted by some tryhard, not really enjoyable, so I think I will just pass then, look at that one less person in the queue pool. Slowly but surely that will continue until unrated BGs are filled with nothing but gladiators and queue times skyrocket, then you go to Blizz complaining about it.

… If I could get together a group of low-level scavs and ambush a high ilevel player in the open world to steal all their gear, things would be just peachy.

See, that’s the thing about gear, and power gaps in MMO PvP - it works pretty dang well when it’s not permanent! When you have something to lose - that’s why running a big, expensive ship in EVE is such an ordeal.

In WoW, once you get the gear, you’ve got it forever - at least until the next season starts, and puts you more in parity. That sort of PvE-style gear progress in a PvP context has pretty much always been busted. Hell, disregarding a few games that actually are P2W, WoW is kind of an outlier in allowing players to be that much more powerful.

There’s a reason this sort of model isn’t at all popular in a modern PvP context. And even when it does come up, it provides small advantages at best.

the current wow pvp management could care less about a fair playing field in pvp

all they care about is that people are grinding and that they are buying gold from the cash shop

they are apparently perfectly happy losing anyone who isn’t captured by this system because those people wouldn’t buy much gold anyways and the majority of the revenue comes from cash shop gold nowadays

Yeah… we’re talking about PvP in the current expansion, not achievements earned 2+ years ago. Idk when PvE and PvP gear became ranked vs a set item level, but the gear disparity between conquest and honor gear is seriously over the top. There is no “git gud” strategy for an ilvl 197 player facing off against a 226 ilvl player in a random battleground. Heck, there’s not even a “git gud” strategy facing off against carry groups in the 1400 - 1600 bracket right now. It seriously sucks.

In bfa they added ilvl to rating

And yes i agree, which is what all of my posts in this thread have been about. I’m 227 ilvl and i hate the system

Snozy and i don’t agree on the issue which is fine, but i don’t like when arguments devolve into personal attacks :stuck_out_tongue:

40 minutes of downtime! Dang!

It is not false, lol. Anyone who even gets 2K is not a casual.

BTW, I played D1 soccer at UTEP and you just agreed that yes we had to practice everyday. Most leet players play almost everyday.

I will agree with this though that if someone played 1000 games and is stuck at 1200 they are bad, I can’t argue with that. I’m not even that bad.

You never said me exactly, you inferred it. I teach reading and you can infer something without outright saying it.

That’s fair. Still argumentative statements should stay in context of the argument being made.

Snozy used their job and how much they work to support the argument for them being a casual player. I pointed out the disparity between working that many hours, claiming to have little time to play the game, yet being able in the forums having an argument with someone over a difference in opinion.

They answered and I accept that as a reasonable answer as my husband is a programmer who also has a lot of downtime between code testing and compiling.

The issue here is that there isnt a set definition of casual and everyone has their own definition of it. I personally consider myself a casual and always have been except maybe in MoP when i was actively doing things

Theres really no point arguing about what is and isnt a casual, as the general discussion forums have proven that we as a whole can never agree on a set definition of it :joy:

My husband often has that amount of downtime between testing and code compilations. That’s not a surprise to me.

I was going to post the exact same thing, I do think certain words are very subjective. Great point!

I’ll leave it at this. I too don’t like people complaining and to a certain extent one does have an opportunity to get better gear. With that said, I think the item level gap is just way too high.

Personally, I wish they would get rid of “versatility” altogether that way people have other options to get gear and compete in Random BGS.

I think vers is fine, but I do think they should bring back the Resist PvP stat for PvP gear. You should not be able to get 226 PvE gear stacking Vers and be able to curb stomp regular PvPers in randoms or otherwise.

This would be a non issue if they brought back true wod scaling.

Honor gear = heroic raid gear (200 ilvl)
Conquest gear =15s and mythic raiding (220 ilvl)

Bam done. PvP is 100X better.
