That video where they mention recovering 1.12 data from within a backup of a backup.
This is referencing Art Assets and nothing more.
If I wasnt clear earlier in AV isnt played for honor or ranking. That was specifically for 1.12 AV. The honor from the quest rewards in 1.5 was definitely worth it.
Back to the data they have or dont have. Well I know for a fact Nano and Nostalrius team handed over their data to Blizzard. So if for some reason they really dont have their own data from back then the AV 1.5 from Nostalrius would be a good foundation to build upon.
NP, if you begin the video about a minute earlier than whats commonly linked you’ll hear it mentioned.
We know, it’s not a secret
Foundation to build upon. I would be a little peeved if blizzard just dumped what they did. If they truly are missing data it’s a place to start
If people want to queue for 1.12 AV, leave a way to do that. If they want to queue for a 1.5 approximation, let them do that. Let the PVP folk and the players choice help decide.
As a pvp rank grinder I definitely queued up for AV back in vanilla because it was such a fun break from the premade bg grind. I made sure to queue up for an AB or WSG before I went in though just in case I wanted to bail early without penalty.
What we are going to get is the corporate version of a Vanilla remake. Meaning they are not interested spending any money on rebuilding lost data if they don’t have too. At corporate Blizzard the bottom line is all that matters.
This is it right here. If people are going to play classic either way then Blizzard is always going to pick the version that requires less work. They’re not going to actually try if they don’t have to.
With the cap being raised to 40 on the beta I’m hoping they’ll release AV soon for testing. Once it becomes clear that zerging will be the norm this issue might get more attention.
The problem is the streamers will be there to have fun battles, not to grind rep. It will look cool on a stream and the trolls will tell us how great 1.12 is.

Why would you think that? Zerging didn’t become the thing until reinforcements.
Zerging happened in 1.12. It just didn’t happen as often as people are claiming it did. Obviously, I’m talking from my own servers PoV. I have no idea what the AV meta was like on larger, more pronounced PvP servers.
I never got to experience original AV in Vanilla, I started late 2005, early 2006, and didn’t pvp all that much, but to be honest…that kind of sounds like hell. Hours to complete a single battleground, let alone days?? Hell no. Count me out on that one. I’m all for authentic Classic, but that is some flaming hot BS right there.
Reading this thread showed me a lot of what I missed. I never knew there was an East and West side to AV. My guess is the earliest I played AV was 1.8, but I do remember running over a mine then feeling like a noob and shocked.
Is there any chance for the community to just ask for an AV week once a year. Maybe the week in which it was released to have a certain patch be available for battle? Have a polling station next to banks like Old School Runescape with a 75% majority vote over a certain lvl, rank or rep.
Zerging started in patch 1.11 and became more and more popular through the patches.
Patch 2.3 actually with the addition of reinforcement changed the zerg tactic to a horde turtle but the Alliance whined so much, and boycotted the BGs until patch 2.4 where Blizzard changed the location of the Horde cave so that they would not have (their first and only ever in this BG btw) geographical advantage.
In patch 1.12, there is no reason to play A.V after reaching Exalted and this can be done within a week. Especially as the horde there is no reason to play it anymore, because zerging does favor the Alliance.
In TBC, you had to play all three BGs because the marks became a currency rather than just exchanged for additional honor so horde would play it for the bare minimum. But the horde was losing most of the A.V back then, to the point that it was a meme.
Look at the PvP panel of the Blizzcon 2007, where there are addressing some of the issues of A.V and Tom Chilton makes a joke in the likes “Yes, it does happen that Horde win sometimes”. (Video on Youtube, in the video 1/7 PvP Panel Blizzcon 2007).
And if you wonder what TBC A.V. has to do with 1.12 A.V well … A.V was not touched at all until patch 2.3 so all the issues of A.V in early TBC are the same as A.V 1.12: Zerg rush happens all the time, Alliance win most of the time.
Alterac Valley will die rapidly once people get exalted and a big component of late game will be a ghosted battleground.
