There is no way to get 1.5 AV back.
Sure there is. They can just read the patch notes and go backwards. UN-patch for a more fun AV.
I’m pretty sure they don’t have the game data ore 1.12
No probably not, but the internet never forgets patch notes.
Heck, they could end up with something even more fun than 1.12 and 1.5 if they went off of the patch notes and went backwards. By the time they used the patch notes to get back to 1.5, they might have an idea as to what made it so epic and fun and end up making it even better.
If only they had not literally killed off all coders at the end of vanilla, and burnt the documentation. No way a small indie company like blizzard with their limited talent and funding could recreate something of this magnitude. Would be inconceivable.
Unless you are Nost, and you at least make the effort.
If Blizzard truly wanted to recreate Vanilla and the Vanilla experience there is nothing that would stop them from doing so. What we are going to get is the corporate version of a Vanilla remake. Meaning they are not interested spending any money on rebuilding lost data if they don’t have too.
So who cares if nerds in there basement do a better job at rebuilding the Vanilla experience that players crave! At corporate Blizzard the bottom line is all that matters.
You didn’t ask me what I wanted. I don’t want any other version of AV. If I’m PVPing I’m doing so for the honor points. Unending AV doesn’t give you much honor.
What did you base this money savings on? There were Battlegroups back in classic.
Why would you want it to be more difficult for people to report cheaters? Do you know how limited loot trading is?
What difference does that make?
No like they don’t have spawn points, hit points, damage data. The furthers data they have is 1.12 and they were lucky to have that. The way the wrote patches back then would overwrite the previous patch. It wasn’t until later they could keep previous patches.
In all reality it’s probably that blizzard doesn’t want to give us 1.5 because they secretly hate the player base but the fact that they literally can’t because they don’t have the data to add those things back with completely making up the numbers which was going against their stated goal
[lacking reliable citation as usual]
It’s not about burning the documentation. It was how they wrote patches back in the day. It would basically overwrite the previous patch. I’m sure back in 04-06 they had absolutely no idea they would need to get the old files and data back to recreate the game.
That feel when you playing a game for fun but OP over here wanting a 15yo game made a certain way so he cant try hard. (facepalm)
Omar Gonzales literally said this in blizzcon back in November. They went back to their off site data archives went back to the furthest date they had of wow data which was 2008. On that 2008 file they found a backup of 1.12. Which is why we are getting 1.12 and not something else. Go watch the recreating history presentation they had at blizzcon. Specifically Omar’s part.
I’m 16 and I know what the people who demanded and fought for Classic want more than they do. I have psychic powers, and also a direct channel to God so my opinions are right. Everyone should listen to me.
You don’t want what you want. Duh! You really want what I want. You’ll see. I figured it out and I know all.
I could stick to retail and play the version of AV I want, on the version of WoW made for me and people like me, but instead I am being forced to play Classic because its the next hot thing so I have to force it to be modern retail WoW so I can play what I really want again. Screw the people it is being made for.
And changes and designs were documented. They did not simply do development and changes on the fly without meetings, discussions, and notes. You seem to be under the impression that individual employees went and worked on the game with no marching orders of what is to be done, and instead just poked and prodded the software on whims.
Even if the “data was overwritten” (if you are naive enough to believe that) there would be detailed documentation of the original designs and detailed instructions as to changes that occurred. ESPECIALLY with an instance with the complexity of AV.
I’m not going to tell anyone else what they want. You want what you want and others want what they want. Peace.
With that said, my preference is that I’d like to see 1.12 AV instead. Just my preference.
I’ll only be queing up for AV as well. ONLY AV. I HATE all other BGs. During BC I ONLY did AV. Typical Alliance player right? So I’m interested with either way AV turns out. I still said my preference is 1.12 but no matter what I’ll still be ok as long as AV exists.
Maybe because its an Alliance thing? Horde don’t want to give the Alliance that advantage? Idk. Either way I’m happy classic is coming out.
I never did AV in Classic even though I barely played in Classic anyways. I played LOTS of AV in BC and Wrath. I LOVED It then.
Also I wanted to make at least 2 points. 1- AV in Modern WoW is absolute garbage. No its not the same as even back in Wrath days. Its not. 2- AV will still be enjoyed either way for sure. Most of us didn’t play Vanilla who will be playing Classic. Some of us did in many different ways. Don’t conflate modern AV for AV back in the day. It wasn’t the same.
I’m not under any assumption of how they operated. I wasn’t in blizzard in 03-06 when they were developing WoW. I have no clue how they ran their business or what they did with their data or how they documented stuff. But I do know it isn’t uncommon for company’s to have poor documentation practices and stuff gets lost to time. They were dealing with technological limitations of their time. In all reality they were still using floppy disks to store data.
Considering the major support for earlier AV I don’t see why Blizzard are still so stubborn. I thought this game was meant to be a love letter to the fans. I guess it’s a letter that is most convenient to them.
There is a lot more nuance than that
What does that matter? They could watch videos, coupled with the patch data:
-
Oh okay there were 5 guys guarding this, let’s add them back. Let’s do a mix of casters and melee with two stealthed rogue patrols. We’ll make them elite/non-elite with X amount of HP and they can do standard elite DPS.
-
It looks like there were standard item collections set up for rep, base building, and NPC augmentation. Let’s scatter those around on the mobs and NPCs.
-
Okay this is how you capped a tower/bunker, let’s put that back in and take out the ability to tag it through a wall.
-
Okay there was a giant-as-hell troll up by snowfall GY. Let’s put him up there and make him a mini-boss that hits SUPER hard, since the GY is a strategic point. Let’s also make some randomly spawning trolls that try to take it back from either Alliance or Horde, so that the PC’s have to keep an eye on the GY. If you’re making a push and forget to watch the GY, you might lose it and spawn back at base.
See how this works?
That’s against their goal of making it authentic. If they have to make up stuff, numbers, spawn locations, etc they aren’t staying true to that goal of authenticity. That’s the issue here. Because if they do what you are suggesting and make stuff up because they don’t have it people
Will lose their freaking mind. They were already losing their minds when they thought the numbers were wrong for dungeon mobs.
It wouldn’t go over well.
