11.1 Hunter Changes (MM No Pet - Pack Leader rework)

And you were wrong.

It matters in PvP.

It matters in M+.

It matters in raid.

It matters in solo content.

A tool to break CC on yourself (or an ally) and prevent reapplication for a few seconds is a good thing to have. Arguing “we don’t really need this because other people in the raid can cover it” is not terribly persuasive.

Thats why they should not remove the pet, thanks for making it clear.

It also was MM has a pet that is forced to never be used, but with 0 “fun” payoff on it, or is used, but has 0 connection to the kit like wheel’s on someone’s grandma.

Looking by the numbers, m+ by itself is prob already majority of PvE content.

Not having a pet is “not really an issue”

You’re only “forced” to not use it if you’re min/maxing. And, instead of doing anything to improve pet AI, they’re slowly whittling away at pet specs.

I think you are seriously misunderstanding what I want.

I want “Lone Wolf now provides different effects based on the Pet Specialization of your most recently active pet.” Ideally with a side of “Your Aimed Shot, Kill Shot, and Rapid Fire also apply Mortal Wounds, reducing healing received”.

I want “MM can be an active and competitive participant in all forms of content, without being reliant on a pet to do so.” Which, incidentally, is what I’ve wanted since the first time I was asked to dismiss my pet in a dungeon so it wouldn’t aggro when we jumped down a ledge.

I think these are really interesting changes and I’m excited to play them. I think it will probably be really fun and engaging. I might even prefer it for raid and M+. Hell, it might even be more effective than I’m expecting for solo questing/delves/etc. it’s still a complete departure from the comfortable thing I’ve been doing for nearly 20 years, and I’m allowed to be opposed to the thing I like being deleted.

Is the eagle undead or a crow if we choose Dark Ranger?

And i think you are misunderstand what i want too

I want those stuff to be baked into lone wolf as well and i want the option to use my pet like i do now.

I want both options, one option truly without a pet, and not this lame bird and one with my own pets

Yes, but it was “MM is forced into the pet to get basic utility”, not “MM can choose to use a pet sometimes if it wants.”

They should give MM Hunters a third hero talent track that’s focused on not having a pet out.

I mean, it is improving, but that would fix none of the MM pet problems.

Because you can’t keep every single idea that people have co-existing.
We’ve gone through mana/focus
We’ve gone through multiple talent trees

Anyone expecting the game to freeze in time and not change things is just playing a losing game.

There were some people who hated for example changes to tanking when it moved from “let me excel how much dodge/parry/block i have to be unhittable” and just soak up heals to “i need to press correct buttons at proper times, or i get killed by mechanics”

Every single thing that some people liked being removed (Artifact Power/etc) was also disliked by someone (thdlock)

Usually the option that leads to things being enjoyed by a bigger portion of people is the one that sticks.

No, I understood you just fine.

Yeah. That’s what I said. Lone Wolf does not prevent you from using a pet. It gives you a buff when you choose not to.

Since I’m wanting to make minor adjustments to Lone Wolf I thought keeping it otherwise the same i.e. optional was a given.

I know, I’ve been here for all of it. Most of those changes were a net positive. Some were not. None were as transformative, except for the last time they completely took pets away from MM, which they then reverted.

I’m not.

The switch to Focus was awesome. It immediately felt much more engaging. Rather than managing mana over a fight, and having to track the 5 second rule, and go through viper Regen phases of pitiful damage, I could just be effective so long as I managed my resources moment to moment, which is what I was doing before anyway.

I was also one of those weirdos who liked blowing up Viper Sting with Chimera Shot. Mana burn is a fun and effective mechanic generally, but Focus is vastly more in line with the class fantasy overall.

I was initially opposed to MoP talents, but came to appreciate that they offered real choice, rather than the old talent trees we had at the time. I think the new trees are better than both, offering meaningful choice but also progression rather than just handing you a new ability every 15 levels. These are iterations on a progression system that impacts the entire game, HUGE changes.

This is different. This is a core fantasy issue.

Imagine if you were a level 80 Hunter. Not MM, BM, or SV, just a Hunter. Spec-less. Think about what that would look like, based on being a spec-less Hunter at level 10. You have a ranged weapon, you have a pet, most of your damage comes from shooting things, you have a bunch of ways to control your enemies, and you have some cool tricks to avoid or escape danger.

For every other class, choosing a spec means making that aspect of the class better, and leaving the rest alone, default. For Hunter, choosing a spec requires sacrificing some part in favor of improving another. SV gives up the bow. MM gives up the pet. BM cedes all the power to the pet.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

MM not using pets is far less transformative than the focus/mana or the multiple talent tree changes.

MM still has a “pet” it simply functions better and thematically feels better.
BM still has a decent amount of power (esp as dark ranger)
And yea, SV gives up a bow, but Sin gives up the swords/axes/maces, a bunch of other specs give up the shields, etc.

Kiting works in solo content.

Doesn’t change the fact that its core design has been with no pet.

You really enjoy being wrong.

Rofl how am I an elitist fotm?

Also not a carry but ok keep coping my guy.

It’s always funny watching you pretend you know what you’re talking about and then taking multiple Ls

Forum posters go to insult is to call someone an elitist or a troll if they disagree with their opinion. They also like to say differing opinions are wrong.

This isn’t even true lol

Game mechanics wise, absolutely, I agree 100%. RPG/fantasy wise, not so much.

A “pet” in this context refers to a distinct combat unit, of the player’s choosing. This eagle thing sounds cool and all, and I’m interested to see how it plays, but it isn’t a pet.

Better functioning, maybe? It’s all theoretical until we have it on PTR. Even then I’m sure it will require some iteration before it’s properly dialed in, like any other major change.

Thematically feels better? Depends on personal preference and context. Again, I’m not opposed to the new thing existing, I’m just opposed to the old thing being wholly replaced with something entirely new and thematically very different, rather than say a choice node or something, at least initially.

Have some examples?
