My hunters mostly aren’t human and it doesn’t make sense for them to have a random eagle. This entire functionality can be fulfilled by my current pets. This is a dumb change that shouldn’t go through. ALL of the changes they’re making can just summon your stabled pet to do what the “eagle” does without having to remove the option to just use your pet anyways.
Also why can’t survival use my stabled pets? I have no connection to these random animals.
Main reason I don’t like playing the spec. Hits like a wet noodle for something with that long of a cast time. Only time the spec feels fun within the true shot window.
The changes they made are intended to make Aimed Shot “hit like a truck” in their own words. Also, the additional changes to Precision Shots being able to stack twice and affect Kill Shot will also make it so that Black Arrow hits like a mega truck.
Also, they increased the cast-time of Aimed Shot but added many ways to reduce it.
I played hunter to be ranged with pet. Specifically I enjoyed ranged SV. Then that was taken away. Down to 2 hunter specs. But Blizz promised RSV would live on in MM. Not really, but it was the best option I had.
Now they are taking that away. I am not limiting myself to 1 spec, Blizz is limiting me to 1 spec. With none of the ranged SV ‘flavor’.
I’ve never really cared for BM (since 2006). Guess I’ll have to give it try and see if it works for me or if I will be limited to 0 hunter specs…
I see this as an all-round win for the Hunter Class. Without knowing tuning, and just getting a first perception of what optional play styles this should enable, I am very eager to see these changes in action. There is so many rotational implications with additions providing new positive feed back loops my head is spinning, but in a good way. It feels like Christmas. When tuned well, all hunter specs have been effective, but this looks like it will elevate the fun we can have quite substantially.
Right now this character takes careful aim while her armored, mechanical, saber-cat keeps the target focused on them. That’s the class fantasy I want. That’s the class fantasy I took time and effort into getting.
Now Blizzard is just going to negate all that and for what? Their narrow-minded idea of what class fantasy is?
What’s next? Outlaw Rogues lose the ability to Stealth and instead have to use some gimmicky pirate-themed ability because all Outlaw specced Rogues are pirates?
This change shows Blizzard has zero respect for player choice and agency.
This might be the single most important thing to let people know if they dont know, Aimed Shots normal cast time did go up, but there are MANY ways to make it more powerful, lower its cooldown and cast time and make it buff other abilities. Aimed Shot looks to be doing just fine in 11.1, just like MM as a whole package, from what the Devs have shared so far.
For my fellow PVPers, MM is getting a potent MS effect for the first time ever(yes, somehow without micromanaging a pet) and an even better Lust than we have now.
The more I think about this the more I hate it. How is it adding to the hunter class fantasy? By removing choice? By forcing an AI “pet” onto MM the supposed petless spec of hunters.
I get that people wanted a sniper type spec that doesn’t rely on pets. I don’t like it but whatever. But this isn’t a petless spec. It’s a choicless spec. You are reliant on some AI avatar of a pet that you don’t choose, you don’t set out in the wild to find and tame, you can’t name, you can’t put safe and sound in a stable. It’s just some pixels forced on us by devs.
Having to pull a pet out to bloodlust as MM was supremely annoying! Having done that a bazillion times I get it. That’s all we wanted fixed. We never asked for this dumb idea.
Fingers crossed! I started out as MM but gravitated towards BM when they ruined it at the end of WoD and Legion. Now I’ll play it when it’s better than BM so as to not hamper my group. I’d prefer it be played with a pet but at least I could have a pet when I was out solo’ing. This removes that choice entirely and I hate that.
I don’t trust the devs to consistently make BM good. Because people are stuck in the mid 2000’s and need some spec to feel superior to BM seems to be it. Even tho I play alts and I know it’s not any easier than most specs out there. Why are they giving BM barrage when it’s really a MM type ability? But MM gets a “pet” that they have zero choices about.
All this does is show how done Blizz is with their own game.
My one agreement with the naysayers here is I would like to see the “eagle” get more customization. I don’t think players should be forced to play with any one particular type of animal; they should be allowed to choose it. For this reason, I also am not a huge fan of the pack leader rework (I specifically made it so I only have moths in my stable, so it would always spawn an army of moths on my enemy; now, pack leaders are forced to summon specific animals). But hey, I’ll be swapping back to MM in 11.1 so that doesn’t “bug” me too much!
Having said that, I am overall very excited. I loved lone wolf, but it was really unviable in any situation that required more than just standing still and pew pewing. This change makes me quite happy. I just hope we see further customization options given to us so that it doesn’t feel so much like we’re being shoehorned into playing with the animals Blizzard chooses for us.
I would actually play survival if we could do this. Currently it is the one hunter spec I refuse to play. If I could use twin blades, I’d be all over it.
it’s not a real pet. it’s just a debuff bot you’ll probably hardly see.
YOU never asked for it. MM has been a mess of conflicting themes and feedback for 6 years. plenty of people asked for something similar to this as well.
