I am going to keep my emotions in check until I get my hands on it. I am a casual these days (only having done like 23 mythic dungeons all season so far and three hours for the raid on Saturday nights), but I primarily played hunter since the TBC when I made a blood elf and chose this class for the first time. I think I am looking forward to what they have on paper. Having the utility without the need for the pet makes me happy. I do not mind the idea of the marksman having an eagle companion. Do I like using a pet in delves or in content where I can easily be overwhelmed? Sure, but I honestly play the class and not the spec. I can make it work and enjoy making it work. If I need to be BM or SV for some things I will. MM is my favorite spec by far, but I’ll hop around because its better than playing any of the other classes. So I’ll try it on the PTR before I get my hopes up or upset, and fingers crossed that it’ll be good.
In the end I hope most of you are happy or satisfied.

Cant say I like the pack leader rework either.
Summon random boar bear and wyvern or whatever. Like why??? Let me choose my own pets damnit… They just copy paste Rexxars pets.

My hunter is getting dumpstered because of this change.
I have zero interest in playing the character without any of the pets I’ve worked to obtain, nor do I have any interest in playing BM or Survival.
(BTW, the melee hunter should’ve been BM. Getting in the face of the nasties doesn’t sound like a sound survival strategy to me, but being in tune with beasts and fighting like them sure fits the bill for melee.)

The devs don’t understand that our pets are our COMPANIONS.
We have played with them by our side for decades.
It actually feels lonely in solo content without them.

i kinda liked PL how it is…
Kinda liked Flanking and Butchery how they are… I don’t want to choose between them.
also reduced lunar storms frequency meaning it will be unavailable more often.
BM is right there for you bud

100% agreed! Most ppl who play MM play BECAUSE they like the ranger petless legolas/windrunner family fantasy. BM is right there for the ranged hunters who like to play with their pets

I believe the MM rework will be extremely well-received and successful
Yes, there will be people who say “I’ve been using my first pet from 2004 as MM for 20 years” which I can emphasize to, and is a bit unfortunate
However, for the vast majority of players MM will be very fluid, “feels-good” fun spec, with much less key bindings (pet attack/pet passive/pet move, etc.)
The more time passes, the more people will appreciate having so much utility while not having to deal with pets glitching, getting stuck, pulling mobs, getting killed in PVP

I absolutely love and welcome the MM changes. They further defined the identity of each spec. MM is petless, BM is the pet master, and SV is melee with pets.
The MM changes are looking great, finally addressed the 2-target dead zone MM struggled with as well.
If you are one of the very few people playing MM who mourns the loss of their pet, I’ve got good news for you. You can change your spec to BM or SV.

- New Ability: Harrier’s Cry – Your Eagle descends from the skies with a screech, giving the signal to attack. Increases Haste by 30% for all party and raid members for 40 seconds. Allies receiving this effect will become Sated and unable to benefit from Harrier’s Cry or similar effects again for 10 minutes. Learned at level 48.
Much better than what we have now too.

What if the eagle can be a mechanical eagle?

I’m looking forward to this. I hope I can play it on ptr to try it out.

The single biggest thing I’m excited about is the new BM talent Solitary Companion. Finally I can opt out of two pets. Thank you, Blizz.
The eagle is the thing that makes this make the least sense.
If they’re going to have us with a pet… why can’t it be our pets?
They’re picking the dumbest way to make MM “better” that they could. We should just have the damn choice to use our animal or not if they’re going to still keep an animal.

Anyone else dislike the flanking strike changes for survival? I liked the way that flowed. Trying to make us use raptor strike//mongoose bite instead of making it flow with the spec better or at all seems like back words game design. Also MM should have access to use tamed pets. Other wise what is a hunter? Not all specs use pets not all specs are ranged. Core elements of the class from vanilla are just not being represented anymore.

Oh okay, I’m absolutely happy with that then.
Bye bye pet, hello Hawk Tuah. (Yes I know it’s an Eagle, but the sound everybody thinks Eagles make is a Red Tailed Hawk.)

I have the opposite reaction to this change. Humans have been using birds of prey to hunt for a long time so it makes perfect sense to me. The eagle also isn’t really a pet.
It’s more of a visual/immersion thing. This change also helps separate MM from BM while solving the heroism issue.

I can think of a few reasons why… it’s probably less invasive, they already have a similar eagle via Sentinel, before Sentinel’s hero tree they already had a Sentinel type effect in place, etc. It seems like its an easy-to-implement thing.
Of course it’d be cool if we had the ability to customize it the way Warlock’s are able to customize their pets. Like maybe able to unlock the appearance of Anu’Relos as MM’s eagle for example.
MM’s eagle is purely a cosmetic/flavor thing. It isn’t a controllable pet. All pet utility has been baked into talents so you aren’t missing out on that. Honestly, for the 1000th time, if you want the Hunter pet fantasy there is a literal spec that exists for it. Play it. If you somehow claim to enjoy MM Hunter’s playstyle then you’re not actually in it for the pet are you? Seems like you’re complaining for the sake of complaining. The changes are objectively good. MM’s pet provides the utility/passives that are now being given to us anyways. It held no aggro, and no, even after misdirect the aggro wore off and pet took so much damage. There’s a reason why you see Youtube videos of Hunter solo-ing raids as BM, because its the proper pet spec.
