11.1 Hunter Changes (MM No Pet - Pack Leader rework)

I really don’t like my character being forced to use a specific type of pet for this new MM rework. A mechagnome hunter using an eagle from the wilderness for example, what kind of sense does that make? Maybe give us the ability to choose from a variety of “flying” type pets for these new abilities. Maybe make one of them some sort of mechanical “drone” type thing with customizable colors for characters such as mechagnomes with an engineering theme to them.

Just really hate putting so much work into my character’s xmog/mounts/pets engineer theme, only to be forced to then have a big eagle as a pet. Really feels like a middle finger.

already in the works to have the spotter pet be customizable

They knew his concern would happen and I was happy to hear the solution is in the works. PTR access will provide time to test and give feed back on gameplay, and any remaining RP concerns.

We know this will not hold, they either will make lame glyphs or give some other birds as option, like they did with warlocks and forgot about it, which isnt going to fix the issue

Sitting on a Shadow Priest right now. I can assure you that survivability in content is not guaranteed.

The “eagle” may be customizable according to what is written there. There is zero mention of the pet able to be anything but the eagle, and that is really pigeonholing MM hunters when it comes to their character’s persona/theme. We should be able to choose from a variety of pet types for that, including mechanical, such as a drone.

They said they are still fleshing out MM after the rework these changes are not the end of them.

I am in the same boat. Though there are other specs and classes I can enjoy, if the general direction they’re going to follow is cutting player choice to appease the min-max players who could have just not summoned the pet to begin with… All while pushing our classes more and more towards cookie-cutter “hero character” themed classes. Yeah, I have no problem just going to literally any other MMO.

Lol, they were having to summon a pet, not dismiss one because MM lacks utility when you dont have a pet. That is the whole thing with the changes, baking the Pet Utility in to other aspects of the class, so you dont need the pet.

My thing is tho, that could exist ALONG with just leaving the option to get a pet, and have that utility in it… like it is now.

But I also understand them not wanting to make pretty much two specs in one. SO… here we are.

They have said that after every rework.

And it is true after every rework. Ret got reworked in 10.0.7, then changed in 100 ways(mostly nerfs and pvp specific nerfs), then recently reworked again. Lots of specs change often. Not that long ago priests were getting so many changes weekly, content creators were spending 15min or so just reading off Priest buffs/nerfs/design changes, sometimes more than once in a month. The game is never finished and that is part of what keeps things interesting. I wont go as far as to say spec changes are content, but people love talking about them.

You know what’s the difference? Those have an actual dev. Unlike hunter.

After trying PL on the ptr, I’m not a fan of the pet models/colors they chose. The boar is too bright, the Legion bear model looks wonky compared to the regular one and the black and white coloring looks like a skunk. The wyvern feels very Horde-centric also and a little off for Alliance hunters.

If we have to use these, I’ll probably have to switch to Sentinel which I don’t care for thematically or visually either but it’s less of an eyesore.

saying something like this is pretty funny when there’s been back to back hero tree reworks all expansion and each spec gets a ton of attention every patch too lol

Until recently, most of the changes were design changes or nerfs to Dark Ranger. None of the hero trees for hunter have been exceptionally popular with a majority of the players for the specs that play them as far I know. Some folks did mention, they were impressed that more dark ranger animations arrived. Folks, including myself, criticized sentinel, until they added the following mechanic for the bird. But the follow speed is still a bit to slow to be particularly useful in pvp. Dark Ranger DPS from Black Arrow and its interactions with Precise Shots still recieves warrented criticism. It’s all very much a work in progress, on the live game.

to say hunter has no dev when clearly that isn’t the case is just dramatic and demonstrably false though

Glyphs for a bunch of different birds and other flying creatures, a glyph to use a customization slot in the stable, and a glyph to hide the eagle and have a different spell effect should satisfy everyone, appearance wise at least.

And that would not never happen, like i said, you will have like 3 glyphs for different birds and blizz will call a day

I have to be trying to see the bird to notice it, could be a tiny flying purple elephant for all I care.

If that’s the best it’s going to be, at least give me a crow or raven!
