Yeah that and stopping a healer from drinking/putting a rogue/druid back in combat is an overall loss but I think the changes make up for that imo
Yeah, how appropriate… For a dark ranger. Now how about my clockwork hunter gnome who exclusively uses mechanical pets and is a beast master, and won’t want the zoo that is the new pack leader? Suddenly WAY LESS APPROPRIATE. Almost like these class hero talents should have been optional character skins with more customization and no ties to power. At this point it’s obvious you’re intentionally ignoring my point and trolling because you can though so I’m done replying to you.
thats just how it is on this witch of an earth
I unsubbed because of this change. I have been an MM hunter main since Classic. Is my pet useless? Sure. But its CORE to the Hunter class, having a pet companion. Now you are taking away my pet and forcing an eagle pet on me? seems like everything the eagle can do, my own pet could do. hell, even a passive pet from my stable could do… 20 years of gathering pets and they will all be nullified and can’t use anymore. “Switch specs” and play a spec i dont like just to see my pets i’ve gathered for 20 years? Oh and they are bringing back pet specializations? I was so excited for that until the MM changes. Dislike. Unsubbed.
Truly sorry this change affects you like that. I hope Blizzard hears the concerns and comes up with something.
survival hunter butchery changes are terrible blizz need to not follow through with the nerf and choice node for flanking strike…the rest of this is good but geeezz that survival stuff is really really bad and out of touch
And yet is is not.
Both from mechanical / in-game lore / rpg design space / irl examples.
It is, it i literally part of the description in the site.
False, as pets are part of the hunter mechanic since its conception, you being able to summon then shows that.
Also, false, as you have various hunters with pets, some even named. Rexar obviouslly being the main OG hunter.
If you are specifically speaking about MM there still examples in the game like Hemet Nesingwary, very famous for his “hunting” quests
i guess this “design space” is the new buzzword to defend this abomination.
Are you joking? humans used wolves to hunt FITEEN THOUSAND YEARS ago or even more, and still use dogs for hunting.
Media is filled with “hunters” using animals, like Will smith in “i am legend”, Chriss Pratt with his velociraptor in jurrasic world.
I think we should wait until we get it in our hands on the PTR before making a claim like this. I get that it sounds terrible removing the pet option, and I do agree it shouldn’t happen, but the class isn’t unplayable now without a pet, so I am not sold on the idea that it will be after it loses the lone wolf penalty and is reworked.
And yet MM has nothing mentioning pet unlike the other 2 specs.
Mechanic existing, is not not the same as mechanic being core.
Rogues had range weapon slot and multiple range skills, nobody would describe them as a ranged class.
Frost mages had water elementals for 16+ years and nobody would consider them a pet class (plus it also got removed)
And he does appear to do his hunting just fine w/o any pets ?
If we look at wow “hunter champions” from legion, most of the non BM ones don’t have a pet.
If we look at large lore npcs none of the windrunners / rangers had pets, none of the night elf hunters had pet (besides the owl).
Even if we look at wc3 none of the “hunters” had pets be it archer / huntress / rifleman / troll headhunter, etc.
Mostly how other “hunters/rangers” are present in RPG/DND/Fantasy settings.
And there are plenty of the ones without pets (probably biggest exception is drizzt but he is infinitely closer to survival than MM)
Some, yes, and plenty didn’t.
Most people associate hunting/hunters with using ranged weapons, despite the fact that yea, decently long time ago it was done using sticks and spears.
Media is filled with “hunters” not using animals, like ash williams, blade, hellboy, van helsing, daryl dixon, hawkeye, legolas, etc (if we’re using modern exampeles)
And that’s if we disregard that marksmanship is probably also represented by 9001 “snipers” or their equivalent in media, most of whom are doing it w/o pets.
No, they don’t. Otherwise there would not be so many breeds of hunting dogs, not to mention the ancient Egyptians used cheetah as hunting animals. Even fox hunting uses hounds because the sound of their baying makes them easier to spot in the brush and ferrets were sent down holes to flush out rabbits. Most people, however think of hunters hunting things they will eat, not sending them after people like police dogs or dogs in the military… If people did not think of people using pets to hunt, there would have been no BM spec. MM spec was fine for 20 years WITH pets.
PeTA has a hissyfit when Hollywood uses animals, so a lot of more modern movies and shows don’t use them. ALSO, they have nothing whatsoever to do with a game that has a class/spec that had pets for 20 years and just now wants to take them away after people spent a lot of time and effort to collect them, often named them after favorite RL pets and spent countless hours questing with them at their sides. MM with pets predates most of that ‘media’ you listed anyways, even if it did have any relevance to WoW.
You are moving goalposts
dude said is core to the hunter CLASS to have a pet companion
you said “is not”
you are wrong.
It is, since its a pillar part of the class since tis conception, and it remained that way for 20 years and it is a defacto characteristic of the class making it unique compared to others
Its even more unique and defining than warlocks, since hunter can tame different pets, unlike warlock.
False analogy
Because frost mage isnt a class, is a spec, and yeah it was stupid to be removed.
Just like MM hunters who can appear with or without pets
Key word: most, not all, and Legion was the expansion they also tried to remove the pet and failed, so that was just they trying to force it.
Again: it doesn’t matter, the point of MM is being a choice of having both options, so both fit the thematic
Thats just a disingenuous comparison since the game is way too old, with limitation and had a different vision compared to wow
And none of then had a eagle either so your point fall flat.
Again key word: mostly, not all.
And plenty with, like i mentioned.
Hell we even got Jhon wick and his friend as sharpshooter with guns recently LOL
Yes, again: choice. Point being, you said hunting using animals isnt core of the hunter as irl examples, and its false, dog hunting is far more know and far older
OK? you usually use guns and the dogs anyway? are you even aware of the concept of dog hunting?
And is filled with the ones USING then
THATS THE WHOLE POINT
CHOICE
And its dumb to remove one of then.
Too bad they aren’t doing that, they are making you a falconry, not a sniper, so again, point falls flat.
I mean when we’re using “i am legend” and “jurrasic world” as examples i’m also going to use movie examples ?
(Ignoring that if anything chrispy rat would prob be a BM)
Warlocks also have different pets, not just a single one.
doesn’t use pets
let’s bring him up as an argument for using pets.
From what i’ve seen, all non bms ones don’t have pets, but i’m not flying to check out each one.
Ah so warcraft 3 from 2002 is too old, but wow from 2004 isn’t too old ?
So now you have a falconry spec like irl (mm), a dog hunting spec (bm), and a stick pet hunting spec like in the good ol times (sv)
Eh. This Syegfryed dude argues with everyone if he doesn’t get his way. Unless he hears what he wants to hear, he will argue. I think he should go play a single player game. He doesn’t understand the concept that WOW is an MMO with millions of players and it’s just not about his class and his experience.
Another non sequitur, Warlocks can go out in the wild and tame different demons, they are different.
The amount of pitful customisation warlocks have pale in comparison to hunters ina single family alone.
You are just playing fool on purpose, MM hunters can appear both with and without pet, you keep ignoring this fact and cherypicking the bits of “MM with no pets” like the “MM with pets” dont exist
You clearly are not seing everything or seeing wrong
nevertheless, is a pointless anecdotal evidence.
It is, but that doesn’t help your point in any shape or form.
Warcraft 3 is a RTS wow is a MMO-RPG
And its garbage, when we could have falconry spec(MM/BM/SV) dog hunting spec (BM/MMSS)
So again, stop pretending you give two craps about theme, fantasy and these thing, you dont, you are saying random nonsense.
You went to cry in another thread after getting called out by your BS
Are you searching for emotional support with someone patting you on the shoulders saying its all right, the big green orc is just a meanie? boohoo
I closed you out on the other thread by telling you to “git gud” and stop complaining about the new changes that we are looking forward to.
Keep doing your LFR. The good hunters on the hunter discord are in agreement with the new changes.
Waow, what a master debater, did you drop the mic too, Mr. Pigeon chess?
No, i dont think i will, you can get mad all you want.
No, I do not like this.
I’ve been a very casual player since Vanilla. I’ve been a hunter since the days of going out to tame a pet I won’t use, just to learn some new rank of bite to teach the pet I’ll actually use. Pets have been a part of the core game play identity of hunters since hunters existed in WoW.
I like the option to not have a pet. That’s fine, I have no problem with a talent sub-tree dedicated to making that very viable. Like being a warlock that sacrifices having a pet. I see no problem with having that option available.
But making it mandatory? No, I do not like that.
To me, that’s like making destro or affli locks required to have no summoned demon. Or a mage spec forced to not have blink and shields. Or a rogue spec that loses stealth.
Sure, you could absolutely make those very viable specs. But they suddenly stop feeling like the class.
Giving the option to not have a pet is fine. Taking the pet away from one of the two pet classes after twenty years? No, I do not like that.
I actually do.
I also understand that sometimes thematic rework is good, without me liking the spec.
I’ve been playing priest/rogue/hunter since classic and i’ve gone though many reworks of many specs, some were thematical, some were mechanical.
Some i enjoyed (sv in legion pre-patch wasn’t what i expected prior to beta, but it was still nice and refreshing), some i didn’t (spriests going from shadow orbs to insanity from mechanical pov and combat to outlaw from thematical)
And i can see how both of the changes can make people not want to play the spec. But it’s also an ever changing game, so I never really felt the need to quit the game because one of my specs got reworked.
I am no longer using any of my thrown weapons that are taking up space in my bank as gray items, I am no longer able to use thrash blade that i’ve spent forever long finding a mara group for, I am no longer using my firelands kitty staff on my hunter while not playing SV, but again, game changes over time.
There are things in the past that I don’t think i’ll ever do again, or even want to, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t have fond memories of running KZ with friends for 14 hours, or sneaking into ZG’s guild run as a lvl 58, or being upset at druids being able to fly as lvl 68 instead of 70 and far cheaper.
Nope, you don’t, you clearly are FOTM metaslave player.
How i know that? your past history, pointed by other player, and how bad your arguments were related to fantasy and thematic, in the game or outside of it.
For you it doesn’t matter what they do if they make easier/convenient and increase your DPS.
And that is perfectly fine, you do what you like, but you don’t get to say about stuff you clearly don’t like you are a wheel of wow knowledge.
