11.1 Hunter Changes (MM No Pet - Pack Leader rework)

Lol it would be just as messed up as it is now then and all the people that say they don’t care about DPS shouldn’t have anything to complain about, but you’re right. They would still complain. I don’t really care, though, because I don’t think they is any satisfying everyone anymore. I think the best option is to keep call pet, tone it’s damage down so far it has zero impact on damage, give the player just one button they can toggle (growl), and that’s that.

It really doesn’t need to be that complicated. Pet option could be a talent just designed for open-world type situations. Just has growl and basic attacks, and you loose some dps, but it’s not for higher content.

Each spec has a talent set up for what area they want to play. MM can have a optional pet build even if it not the strongest choice. All the other changes still happen and MM still has thier pet.

The pet doesn’t even need to be brought into balancing as it not going to be a part of end game activities.

That’s a good idea, talent that’s like… Loyal Guardian - Your pet senses that you are alone and comes to provide protection while you are solo. Uses the special pet slot in your stables.

Basically choosing a pet to be a personal tank outside of groups that doesn’t do much more than growl and provide something to misdirect on to. Automatically summoned when solo and dismissed when in a group, something like that.

So why can’t it work like dire beast with a glyph and summon from our stables then? Any winged creature, any tanky creature and any ferocious creature could fit the slots just fine and still fit a hunter’s theme.

Dark ranger has the same problem with its dark hound summon, ‘chud’

This is a direct flaw of the hero specs, and require some talent to make it work, its just like the artifact weapons, some specs got rly thematic and cool weapons in the lore, others got some pulled from thin air just for expansion

Rly? tell me their story and lore then, that isnt “Rexxar use then”, cause even rexxar only have lore for his bear.

To me, when i play my orc hunter, i would not be bothered to be forced with his pets, because it would make sense to my character, but others would not feel that way.

If i was going to do it, i would make these pets to be replaced by the one you chose in the stable, the wyvern replaced by a flying pet by example, boar replaced by a cunning pet, stuff like that

wow so you’re telling me that a dark ranger summons messed up evil looking hounds? how thematically appropriate!

I’ve invested most of my real affection and attachment to this game to this one character and her pets. I spec lone wolf because I’m lazy with my talents and don’t bother changing it for solo play where I have my pet with me ALWAYS because I, like most everyone else who is playing this game, is a casual middling player. The 2-5% dps loss means nothing. It really doesn’t. If I drink an energy drink before playing the caffeine will have more impact on my DPS than that talent.

I’ve always played MM, and I’ve always had a strong attachment to my pets, and now they’re taking that away from me. It sucks, because I’m fine with a DPS loss, but now they’re going to delete my call pet ability because they want to make me play the way they want or kick rocks.

Give me a 10% DPS loss for having a pet. Just a flat, hard 10% DPS loss. I’ll still summon my pet. It’s way too much fun to play the combination of open world mob management and hard hitting ranged attacks. It’s fun and nostalgic and sweet to tame a pet, to name it, to spend time with it and have adventures.

And they’re killing it. They’re just killing all of those attachment points. I’m not interested in BM, and I’m not interested in making another character my main. It really feels like they’ve given us the option for so, so, so long to just be less powerful and still have this entire stable of pets and now suddenly, out of the blue, they’re adamant that all the work they put into pet animations, all the varieties of pets, all the special tames should be relevant to 1/3rd less players.

I’m not excited, at all. I’m sad and debating cancelling my sub. They could give everyone who’s happy about the change everything they want and still let us have our call pet ability as a DPS punished choice, a choice they clearly dislike, but still a choice. Who would be hurt by having a choice? What is broken by letting me keep calling Fifi as an MM hunter just because she’s my first pet and I want to play my silly fantasy MMO with poop jokes and pop culture references outnumbering serious plot lines in a way that makes me happy and nostalgic?

I don’t like it and I’ve been playing this toon since Cata.

If a MM hunter wants to run with a pet or not , that should be up to the individual player and not a decision made by BLizz.

If the use or non use of a pet affects the amount of damage done by the player maybe it’s more of an issue of the players ability because to be honest the percentage in damage between LW and pet isn’t that great and for most intense purposes MM mainly only use pet in open world . So there is no reason to take that away because any MM hunter with any real time playing the spec doesn’t use on in instanced content unless asked to pull it out for a lust.

Including this would immediately address every objection I have to the announced changes.

In single target, it’s fairly close. The pet doesn’t have any AoE though, so you are really gimping yourself in that context if you use a pet.

Cause BM can already call pets from our stables with a glyph, so it’s not really capturing the feel of Hero talents. There also not just random beasts they are from WoW lore.

Shortly after Rexxar arrived in Blade’s Edge Mountains, he was attacked by Bladespire clan. Although Rexxar escaped after slaying many, Leokk his Wyvern was taken prisoner. However, with the help of the adventurer and Rexxar they were able to free Leokk.

Huffer the boar befriended Rexxar while in Blade’s Edge Mountains and helped with Leokk rescue.

Rexxar also Haratha (wolf), Spirit (hawk).

What Blizzard is borrowing from is Rexxar in Hearthstone has three possible minions (Leokk, Misha and Huffer) that can be summoned by a Hunter’s Animal Companion spell.

Blizzard is attempting to give Pack Leader an identity, something that makes it stand out. BM can already summon there own companions,so it wouldn’t stand out if it just more of your own beasts.

I usually do aoe build . Just my preferred style .

With the changes I’ll probably switch to more of a single target build

Nobody is asking them to make anything.

Blizzard decided “Hey, we made this cool new MM thing that has nothing to do with a pet. Also, we are going to delete the pet MM has now. We think MM players who want to ever use a pet are wrong. We also think BM players who want one pet are wrong, but we’re going to give them a talent so they can sit there in their wrongness and be wrong. We aren’t giving MM a talent to let them use a pet because reasons.”

I almost feel like it’s a development resource thing…

Like to me it seems like the optimal solution is to put them as talent tree capstones so you choose one or the other. Like you can go down the pet companion side and get talents that make your pet work basically the same as it does now, or you can take the Eagle capstone side and go without a pet and take all the spotter’s mark etc talents.

But that’s a lot of reworking, and a lot to balance, it’s much easier for the devs to work with just one or the other.

Just make “Improved Spotter’s Mark” a choice node with a talent that let’s you call your pet at the cost of X% reduced damage done.

there’s too many talents that directly involve the spotters mark mechanic. it can’t work like a choice node.

Talking about the node directly above the Tenacious/Cunning choice node, which makes Spotter’s Mark 20% stronger.

You just took what the wiki said about then, look how there is nothing about then besides 'yeah rexxar got em", they have zero lore and zero story

Clearly not doing a good job on it

But, tbf, that is their own fault for half baking hero specs in the development process; It was bound to be hit or miss for various specs

Like i said, i myself, im not bothered by it since those animals combine with horde aesthetic, but other people will not like it. Same way i despise sentinel for being all night elf-ish with that dumb owl and dark ranger being a sylvanus wannabe

So i guess it is the middle ground
