Asheron’s Call peaked in its 2-3rd year at around 500k subs. It then ran for FIFTEEN MORE YEARS on less than 100k subs.
WoW will be around 20+ years from now.

No chance they don’t do a 10.0.
If it isn’t good though, then we can start talking about where the game goes from there.
This couldn’t ring more true.
I’m certainly already clinging to a game I’ve loved for years and scared for the direction in which it’s heading.
I’m also scared for the gaming industry in general as we see more and more development centered around profits rather than fun.
I disagree. I am having fun.
And they can’t make money while making a game? Fun game = losing money?
If the game wasn’t fun, they wouldn’t be making money because nobody would play. Just because some players don’t like the game anymore doesn’t mean that wow is going to close up shop.
I don’t remember how or where but I read that Blizzard still has 2 future expansions on the road.
The base game alone, without adding in any extra from any of the Collectors Editions, made them $140,000,000. That isn’t a failure by pretty much any standard.
Absolutely nothing to do with it. When the game was in its peak vanilla-mop, the company was in the same location as now.
The trend started going down when the wow token was introduced and corporate/marketing managers started heavily influencing the game.
Also when they brought over so many bad Diablo devs over to wow.
Who is this “you” of whom you speak? In all likelihood people who aren’t into the pretend esports stuff will be gone when what you’re describing has taken place.
You is the people currently playing…
A large part of them will leave rather than be forced into that shoebox of a game you described. It will be a very different playerbase than wow has traditionally had, and much, much smaller.
The game I am talking about is actually slowly being built.
It’s a slow transition. You don’t just flip a switch you slow get the general population to accept it.
Then add systems to support it like RIO scores.
Pushed eSports events and world 1st events.
I do hope I am wrong
if craptivision sells to disney this game is dead. disney is garbage enough what ever good is left in warcraft will be censored to heck and or changed to be kiddie friendly and more than likely wont have any close to adult in it, that would mean no more alcohol and brew master monks or monks in general could entirely be removed cause we cant have kiddies drinking virtual beer.
peepoSigh
It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks, what matters is how much income Blizz is generating.
Understand something my informative Blood Elf, money>whatever you think.
Yep, and I enjoy the game and will likely play forever, no matter what kind of expansion Blizz releases as all expansions are the same to me
I’m not spinning a positive view, I am saying what is true.
As long as the profits are there wow will be there.
You’re making an assumption about where I derive pleasure from the experience of wow, you are most likely wrong. Let’s find an old post of mine
As long as the game exists I’m getting my moneys worth
It’s nice being able to just quote myself
Everyone has a different experience, I have yet to come across any bugs in 9.1 (not to say they don’t exist) only thing I’ve noticed is lag in Korthia
Disconnecting after a flight path
Disconnecting after blinking
Disconnecting when landing after jumping off a ledge
Those are all long time problems and have nothing to do with SL.
The perception of quality depends on what you care about. Let’s say there’s a raid, SoD and every fight is buggy as all heck, I mean SUPER buggy, as buggy as you can imagine. Well guess what, I don’t do current content raids so to me the quality of the game is fine as I don’t experience the bugs.
What is or isn’t content depends on you as well. If Blizz were to say make a new Arena map that’s not content to me, I don’t do Arena. Every M+ affix, not content I don’t do M+. You know what would be content to me?
Would that be content for you? Probably not lol.
Did you know there’s collector leaderboards?
https://www.dataforazeroth.com/leaderboards/account-mounts
You don’t need anyone to see it in game, you got leaderboards
muh world
Not my type of players lol
We live in a world where the original Everquest is still getting expansions. WoW isn’t going anywhere.
10.0 will 100% happen. Even all the content in between is nothing. enough people will come back for the next xpac, they always do. Even those who jumped ship and think they are loyal to FF will come back for an xpac start.
Considering how easy is to pull and somewhat maintain classic expansions the future lies on re releasing things and let people play what they want…
retail is just draining resources and getting cash from pre sales and 6 months bundles and of course people that enjoy this direction.
Omg foreverquest… 2nd time this came up today
The sun may not rise tommorow.
You need failure in order to know how to succeed. Hopefully this will be the kick to the butt they need in order to fix the game. I miss the character WoW had. Back when there were a lot of passionate people working on it who were ALLOWED to make their vision real. Even the music doesn’t hit like it used to. I go back to the old soundtracks up to Wrath, heck even Cata’s music was still good and I get those feels. What this game needs is a passionate group of creators with a vision who can act on their passion and talent and the corporation to back off a bit in controlling what they do.
