10.0 may not happen

Okay I’ve seen people say this a fair bit but what competitors? I’ve not seen hide nor hair of any gaming devs/publishers who’ve taken complete leave of their senses and decide to try and jump in on the MMO market.

10.0 will be the worst implementation of everything people have been asking for, so they can say “we gave you what you asked for and you still didn’t like it.” (Looking at you “unpruning.”) Then they will start back with what they want until we get into this situation again, and it will continue like that until it’s no longer profitable.

I’d be willing to bet they think everything is fine and we are just a bad playerbase that doesn’t know what a good game is.

Ff14 is actually driving everyone from this.

FFXIV is not driving everyone away from this game. Blizzard is doing that themself because of them focusing on the wrong parts of the game to push over other aspects. I am guessing it’s mostly because they’re treating the game as (just) another business transaction instead of a passion project.

People don’t jump to greener pastures if they think what they were playing was still great. No, they jump ship because they think it’s sinking. If it was just about not wanting to play MMOs anymore, they’d just stop playing MMOs instead of finding another MMO to occupy their time with. FFXIV isn’t killing WoW, WoW is killing WoW by Blizzard resting on their laurels; hubris. Blizzard thinking that they don’t have to do much to keep people invested.

Will 10.0 happen? Undoubtedly, but the real question is, will 11.0 happen?

FFXIV has an expansion coming in a few months. New World is launching on Aug 31st. Ashes of Creation is in the midst of alpha testing.

Edit: Riot is looking to launch an MMORPG as well, though I’ve not kept tabs on that project.

Edit 2: Of particular note on the Riot MMORPG is that it’s being headed up by Ghostcrawler, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of similar focus on game design as we see in WoW (at least in terms of endgame structure)

Fastest selling, and most profitable. Most revenue dollars in the history of the game. I’m willing to wager that token sales alone surpassed any expansion launch in the history of the franchise.

If you have never been a booster, then you’re only speculating. I have been and am a booster. Trust me. I dont care to elaborate any further on that.

yeah but wheres the fun in all that

wow hasnt been fun in a looong time

At the end of Shadowlands our characters are going to wake up in the newbie zones and everything past Molten Core was really just a dream.

People are unaware, but Earth is being towed to another star sytem to be plunged into a dying sun as fuel.

WoD was arguably worse.

It’ll still happen. Much smaller and/or older MMOs still get expansions and updates. What concerns me is instead of putting in the time and resources to do an “ARR” so to speak. They’ll just let the game go and ride out what subscribers they have left.

I hope so.

Release date 2030.

As someone who plays ffxiv now I can say this is wrong. Ffxiv didn’t cause people to quit WoW did.

If WoW has added customization frequently, player housing, and lifted transmog and weapon restrictions it would blow ffxiv out the water. They handicapped themselves

This is extremely true. I have played FF14 for years and honestly it does keep getting better over time but has never just suddenly became this god king level MMO that everyone needs to flock to. It was blizzard that just decided to make their game so utterly bad that FF14 suddenly starting to look hyper appealing to people.

I may not be happy with the current state and direction of the game, but 10.0 and 11.0 will definitely happen.

Oh for sure. Blizz wont miss out on free money.
Even if its a super sub par product people will flock to it.

Might actually make it worse.

Having WoW 2 would take the old characters people played over the years, out of commission. People won’t come back or have lesser reasons to stay with wow franchise.

Players who are mechanical rpgers tend not to stay long as they wet their appetite over different classes to mechanically play.

If WoW survived WoD it will survive Shadowlands, stop watching clickbait videos.

lmao.
