There is no week off after a certain point, no.
It isn’t a bar to grind out, but a competition with everyone on your faction on your server every week.

They didn’t make the change to where one kept their max rank until the 2.0 patch. Prior to that you would de-rank pretty quickly by slacking off in PVP or by DHKs. You did keep the gear though.
Patch 2.0
Honor System Revamp
I believe you are mistaken, you also keep your title. I kept mine.
You lose your place in the ladder, but the rank title stays.
Since you have obviously have either not read or not understood your own link on how the honor system works. I made a quick breakdown with some hypothetical numbers.
Quick example using 1000 pvpers for the week using 1.12 breakpoints
top 4 honor earners this week + #8 and #9
r1=500k, r2=480k, r3=460k, r4=440k, r8=350k, r9 = 300k1000 * .003(g14 breakpoint) = 3
1000 * .008(g13 breakpoint) = 8
top honor earner = 500k
g14 breakpoint = 450k
g13 breakpoint = 325kr1 = 13k RP
r2 = (480k-450k)/(500k-450k)(13k-12k)+12k = 12.6k RP
r3 = (460k-450k)/(500k-450k)(13k-12k)+12k = 12.2k RP
r4 = (440k-325k)/(450k-325k)(12k-11k)+11k = 11.92k RP
r8 = (350k-325k)/(450k-325k)(12k-11k)+11k = 11.2k RP
ALL of this was taken from the link you gave
What they changed in 1.12 were the breakpoints
they made getting r14-r12 easier but made it HARDER for people to get all ranks from 2-11
like the g14 breakpoint went from .2% to .3%
So if I’m not in the top of the honor earned for a week by my faction, I would not get as much RP as I could be getting?
Will there be a leaderboard to check everyone else’s progress?
And it would be a grind for like 4 months straight, huh?
And once I finally completed said grind, would I be good to quit grinding, and effectively keep my title, gear, etc?

What you don’t seem to realize is that all of your math is from the old, pre-nerf system. Yes, I realize that the math comes from the wiki article, but the math on that article is originally from a thread on elitistjerks which was originally compiled when the system was still new (i.e. long before patch 1.12). While that information may be dubious (though useful, and interesting), the citation to the patch notes in question is not up to interpretation. Go to the very patches in question and read them - they made getting ranks easier. Plain and simple. Yes, hard enough to require a real commitment. No, not as hard as it was originally notorious for. Easy enough for dozens of people to get full epic armor long before AQ.

Gear (including Rank 6 tabard, Rank 11 Mount) yes, it becomes purchasable from the Honor Quartermaster in Orgrimmar/Stormwind respectively upon reaching the rank. The items are purchased with gold.
So the second you log in on a Tuesday reset and are Rank 14 you can purchase the weapons for example.
You don’t keep your rank forever so it is important to purchase items you have earned as you rank up to them. If you were to de-rank from 14 to 13, the weapons would no longer be purchasable.
A Rank 14 could be a Rank 5 with a couple of months off. Decay is 20% of Rank Points per week for everyone no exceptions.
Sounds easy right (motive of this thread)? lol

I know I De-ranked at least initially after finishing my grind to Commander in June 2006 because several guildees commented on it dropping back to Lt. Commander. However, that was prior to 1.12 so the De- ranking may have stopped at that patch although I haven’t seen anything in the patch notes regarding it.
I do know that one of the exciting things about the 2.0 patch as I mentioned above was that I could display my Commander rank again.

Or go straight back down to Sargent, or the Horde equivalent) as one the High Warlords on my server did. He basically went and bought the HW weapons and then went on a DHK spree. It was so immediate that if he hadn’t still had the gear no one would have known he had made it to HW.

Would I at least keep my title? It would be terrible to lose it for taking a week off.
No unfortunately, not during Classic at least.
If they do it as it was in Vanilla your PVP title is your current rank and that’s it. There aren’t any other titles in Vanilla other than your PVP rank and it isn’t something you get to pick from the UI.
On the bright side, people on your server know you are a “Rank 14” even if your current title is “Private Jawah”. There is more prestige in my opinion.
Thats great and the math still works cause math is math and it doesnt change. What changed were the breakpoints not the system itself.
So everything I did was actually using the 1.12 numbers.
Actually I feel like that was changed at some point. I for instance have the Knight-Captain title, and once I got the blue set I stopped messing with it each week. I kept the title even after I down ranked. I don’t remember my title ever changing after that.
So once again the complaint is:
Classic.
Even if you’re right, 1.12 honor pieces are still in “curbstomp people in MC/BWL gear” territory.
Complete nonsense.
As someone who got stuck at rank 13 for weeks in Vanilla and burnt out before getting rank 14 this post makes me laugh.
If i get smashed by someone in the epic pvp gear and weapon I will simply move on and appreciate the fact that i have actually seen outside my house in the last month.
Finally someone with a brain posts useful information
Idk i pvp’d to me at least seemed like a lot and I only got rank 10 , i didnt no life but my profile pvp kill count is mostly from pre cross server
For some classes having the buffed gear is going to be a big thing but I don’t think that as a bad thing. PVP:ers should get some love and as a raider I think they deserve good gear for their efforts.
And if people in my guild have PVP gear and use it for PVE because it is good enough for it so be it. I don’t think the difference is all that meaningful to be honest.
Please do the math on how long it will take to acquire this gear, and how many people can get it per week before making this claim.
On Light’s Hope I think the people who were in standing 1 within the bracket compositions (side effect of 1.12’s change) got their rank 14 about 3 months into the server, maybe 2.
Given it looks like they’re holding the pvp gear back until BWL with their current suggestion of phases I don’t see this as being a problem. Naxx Gear will still be the best, the gear as far as armor is pretty much on par with AQ40 loot with some pieces being worse, others being better depending on class. Set Bonuses are also huge on the tier 2.5.
The thing is the weapons are about Naxx quality in their final revision. So getting them early will be huge but only the grossly dedicated will acquire them before Naxxramas comes. But the r14 dagger is outpaced by Kingsfall which is a KT drop. So it isn’t like the PvP gear is just leaps and bounds ahead. It’s just revised as being the PvP equivalent to Naxxramas and available before that point. They should just keep the stats gimped until the appropriate time.
Perdition’s blade
Is good but not that great. R14 dagger will outclass it easily. R14 dagger is pretty much only outclassed by Kingsfall.
Hand of Rag
Is a garbage weapon that nobody would ever seriously use past showing it off. Even in PvE because any class that could use it the raid would much rather throw a Nightfall on them for the proc.
Bonereaver’s Edge
OP yes, mainly because of proc though.
Skullforge Reaver
Not really that good.
ToEP
That’s because PvP didn’t give you on use spell damage trinkets. You got the one that broke a couple of different CC types based on your class.
The weapons of Nefarion are outright better than the pvp grind
I don’t think it’s possible to have made a dumber statement.
R14 one handed sword beats out CTS by nearly 30 minimum value damage on tooltip alone. For the record, CTS is the BiS 1h sword, beaten by Ancient Qiraji Ripper in AQ40 which is still outclassed by R14 1H.
R14 1H:
138-208 damage
7 stam
1% crit
28 AP
CTS:
106-198 damage
14 agi
14 str
7 sta
AQR:
114-213 damage
11 stam
1% crit
20 attack power
The only thing close on these items is the damage per second stat, but if I have to explain why that’s a bad metric especially considering how melee abilities go off weapon damage and weapon dps is basically worthless then it just proves further you have zero clue what you’re talking about.
