1.12 PvP Gear - Overtuned for BWL

There is only one problem here folks. To the people who want to gate the Rank 14 weapons it makes no sense, because here are the values:

Grand Marshal’s Dirk
Binds when picked up
One-hand
Dagger
79 - 120 Damage
Speed 2.00
(49.8 damage per second)
+6 Stamina
Durability 75/75
Requires Level 60
Equip: Improves your chance to get a critical strike by 1%.
Equip: +12 Attack Power.
Source: Captain O’Neal (Alliance PVP Barracks)
Added in patch 1.4

That was the 1.4 version and now the 1.6 version

Grand Marshal’s Dirk
Binds when picked up
One-hand
Dagger
95 - 143 Damage
Speed 2.00
(59.5 damage per second)
+7 Stamina
Durability 75/75
Requires Level 60
Equip: Improves your chance to get a critical strike by 1%.
Equip: +28 Attack Power.
Source: Captain O’Neal (Alliance PVP Barracks)
Updated in patch 1.6

BWL came out in 1.6. So when phase 3 hits. Even then those upgrade versions will happen. So where exactly is the problem? Because… this is nearly as authentic as it can get.

I was a mage in vanilla in a top 50 US guild and I recall being just full t2 and 2 shotting HWL players…

You all making it seem like this is live and you in greens vs epics…

Full t2 with zg spell trinket as a frost mage went like this.

Frost Nova.
Imp counterspell.
Zg trinket.
Frostbolt into cone of cold shatter… 4500 damage HWL is dead just like anyone wearing greens.

Why are people freaking out about this… PvE-only wannabe raiders or something? The generally few people who will get the highest PvP ranks will most likely have the best PvE/raid gear they can get to support their honor system climb. So not sure what you’d be worried about unless you don’t want to PvP, in which case you don’t have to…

You haven’t figured out the fact the WoW community as of Wrath has gotten very into the idea that everyone should have everything and that it should all be fair? Even if your item required 3 months of 22 hour days of grinding, it shouldn’t be better than one they got entirely from luck and killing a boss which likely took a couple of minutes to kill once a week.

You sound like someone who thinks raider gear should be the best gear in pvp. Your worried about nothing.

I will probably be in the same situation. Why does it matter if someone who plays a lot of pvp has better pvp gear than someone who doesn’t play as much?

And this is determined by you?

I’d rather stick to an authentic classic than listening to people who think things should be different because of oppinions.

If you honestly think me of all people is advocating for change, let alone changing one of the most important aspects of Vanilla, you’re either new here or have poor reading comprehension.

I’m about as “No changes, period.” as it gets.

I just call out entitlement where I see it. Hell even reading my post I can detect the condescending tone with which it was written toward people who feel entitled to everything with no real effort.

So getting rank 14 is no real effort?

You’re either trolling, or profoundly stupid. Even though it’s likely the latter given my luck with forum users, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and presume it’s the former.

No I’m just stupid :smirk:

K well you said it, not me. At best I just said it was a probability.

OP has no idea what he’s talking about.

Thank god we won’t need to deal with the bs that became resilience.

People in this thread are worried about players and guilds they never had a chance of competing with in the first place.

OP seems to be under the assumption that everyone is going to be out grinding honor and walking around in PVP epics and weapons. Not going to happen. The more people PVP’ing the harder it is to acquire rank and you need to consistently place in the top 10% of ALL PVP’ers on your server if you hope to reach rank 11 and top 2% to see rank 12+. So we’re talking about a small percentage of players will actually see epic gear from PVP before AQ and an even smaller number will see r14 weapons. By the time your average player even hits rank 10 the top ranks will be more or less beyond their reach.

TLDR: This impacts no one except the top players on the guild who were going to have the best items anyways.

And think it’ll be an awesome change in dynamics for serious guilds. Guild vs Guild PvP gearing up drama, Guilds “lining up” their players for rank 14, etc.

I think it’ll be really cool actually.

It’s already going to rain epics with 1.12. Adding more isn’t going to hurt.

Yes is was a terrible system. PvP becoming further distinguished from PvE in a MMORPG was a new phenomenon. Every game of the genre that has tried to isolate the two has quickly lost support from a multitude of PvP interested players. The rapid decline of Guild Wars 2 is a useful study case on this. PvP has context. In a MMORPG it must not be separated from the fantasy universe. That is the context. That is what causes it to fail. That is how we know that the force behind it is seeking to create a new thing by separating the fans of various genres to create a new fanbase specifically for PvP. You would rightly guess that the pursuit of ESports is partly to blame.

What???

Segregating players in a MMO always leads to ruin. All aspects of the game must be entwined for the game to be functional.

Exactly. This is why DotA2 suffered so much in regions where the fans still made a connection to the lore. This is why League of Legends invested so much into lore with the professional videos and promotion of fan creations. It needed a context. The gameplay itself was not enough. Also, notice that there is more PvE in those two popular MOBAs than in MMORPG PvP. Apparently, the experts in fantasy PvP were not deceived. Real RPGers want PvE & PvP.

It is an eventuality that a significant numbers of players will want to test each other. I remember enjoying the addition of a PvP arena or a dueling option in games that did not intend to support PvP. It was isolated then, because the game was strictly PvE. However, even PvP centric RPGs (that I tried) used PvE gear as the basis. Creating a new game mode with separate gear and abilities was antithetical to the genre norm. Promoting a false impression that PvPers did not want PvE in their PvP was an oddity that could not be explained, but people generally did not question it due to the expansive nature of computer games. The problem began when that mantra was touted as a reason to replace all PvP experiences in MMORPGs with a boring clash of fantasy archetypes detached from the context for their existence.

That continued in WoW with other aspects of the game until everything was disjointed from the rest and nothing made any sense at a whole. The game was turned into a collection of pointless minigames with next to zero social interaction.

Were the PvP weapons added way after the epic gear?? I hope the weapons are NOT in until much later.
