If something isn’t changed, then for the first time in WoW’s history, the PvP gear will better than PvE gear - and by a landslide at that. For PvP, the blues will be better than T1, and the epics will be better than T2, only surpassed by the very last of the last, the end of T3. This means that raiding will not be a viable way to maximize gear for PvP.
If you’re out of the loop, the honor system was nerfed by 1.12 to give out gear more easily. For example, instead of a requirement to be #1, it was changed to require being in the top 0.1%
The percentage of players that may reach ranks 6 through 14 has been increased.
And getting Rank 12/13 is not nearly as difficult as the final haul to Rank14, which means that after a couple of months, many people will have epic armor that is more than best in slot, it’s better than the next two waves of content and in some cases on par with the finale.
Anyone with access to that gear will absolutely and completely dominate in a way that is not Blizzlike. Certainly, getting better gear and dominating other people was a hallmark of vanilla, but placing PvP Gear a two full tiers above everything else was not.
Undoubtedly, grinding honor will be twice as competitive as ever, because the rewards from raiding will pale in comparison.
Please do the math on how long it will take to acquire this gear, and how many people can get it per week before making this claim.
Everyone that says this is pretending that people will walk up to vendors on day one and walk away in a full set of R14 gear and weapons. Thats not the case at all. Yes there will be a small window where a SMALL number of PvP folks will be ever so slightly ahead of the best PvE items in the game, but that window will be small and closed quickly.
I agree on the in-authenticity. That’s a fact. It didn’t work this way in vanilla, and having the pre-buffed gear first then upgrading it would be the ideal way. But I disagree that it would be some incredibly unbalancing mess that will ruin PvE progression wholesale. It really really wont…
They need to put pvp gear into a bracket of progressive itemization. I believe there were earlier iterations of the PvP items. I never made it to a high rank, but the blues I collected were certainly not better than even tier 1, hunter gear that is. It was pretty much BIS pre-raid though. I mostly pvped just to get huge shoulders on my night elf though. Then the aweful giant stalkers were too big. You’ve never seen someone so happy to start wiping in raids to get new shoulders lol
A few months to get everything, but only a month to get the first 3 epics.
That means that long before AQ is released, and long before Naxx is released, there will be people with gear that completely outclasses everything else.
First, it varies greatly between classes which is “better.”
Second, vast majority of the playerbase won’t have what it takes to obtain full Warlord/GM set. Obtaining tier 2 gear is more realistic for the average person’s schedule. Much easier to set aside time to raid a couple times a week vs playing 8 hours a day for 6 weeks straight. I’ll guess that less than 1% of the player population will ever obtain full epic pvp sets. And most of those achieving that will already have raiding gear anyway to compete in pvp.
Also… some of these items, like the epic two hander was changed in patch 1.6.
When did BWL release again?
So I think those complaining the items are too powerful. Well… those two handlers are in their 1.6 state. Just as they were when BWL released. So what is the problem?
The most amount of RP you can get in a week is 13,000 and you suffer a decay of 20% per week of your current RP before adding in how much you earned. With this is mind:
I have no aspirations of being in the top 1%, but I have every reason to expect that I will often be fighting against them. Instead of PvE gear being the best gear, myself and many others will be completely outclassed.
I’d like to not get completely annihilated by people in the full PvP set in MC gear. I have a job and a social life, so I’d like to be able to actually PvP. Not to mention it breaks the game to have overpowered gear in the game as the top guilds will be MILES ahead.
I know, it is ridiculous. This won’t even be the top 1% of players. This will literally be the top 0.05% of players, if we have a population of 1 mil and 1 player per server manages to rank that high by the end of phase 2 (with a guess of 50 servers).
It’s more like the top 3-5% steamrolling every pug in BGs. They will already do that due to being a premade, but at least you would be able to fight back if the itemization is what it should be.
I’m going to call you out in this. We’re talking about PvP here. Nobody in their right mind would try to PvP with Robe of the Archmage. However, anyone in their right mind would try to PvP with T1 during Vanilla. Certainly, MC is easy, but the gear comes slow - very slow. Bosses drop a couple peices of loot and it’s split between 40 people. The blue set from BG’s comes much, much quicker.
Being Warrior-centric here and all, the Rank 10 gear is okay for PVP but awful for raiding as a tank or DPS.

We’re also skipping over a lot of items from MC like Sulfuron’s Hammer, Bonereavers Edge, Perdition’s Blade/Core Hound Tooth, Benediction, rings, necks, cloaks etc.
PVP gear in the game is not on par with raid gear and never will be. The only pieces that are as good as some BWL items are the Rank 14 weapons.
Is your point that Rank 10 gear trivializes MC/BWL gear? Cause that’s what I read.
If you are talking PvP, then your opposing PvP players have access to the same damn gear you do dude… are you even following your own discussion properly?
