On the contrary, the Marauder has to be a Karui male, the Witch has to be an Oriathan female, and so on.
Gender-locking and Race-locking made the characters better.
If everyone can be everything, the design sucks, and you have no variety.

That’s… that’s what variety is or can be. Also, much like how the female Death Knight shares a lot of the prominent/key features of the male Death Knight, the Diablo 4 designs look like they’ll follow the same philosophy. Diablo 3 even managed to do it.

You cannot have a male Amazon, Amazons can only be female. If you make a every class gender-neutral, then you can never have Amazons again.

The closest thing I could find in support of this in Diablo is -
“The Askari operate under a matriarchal government.[2] Men are responsible for any number of positions in the community, government, and clergy, as well as merchant and agricultural occupations.[1] However, their voices carry less weight in Askari affairs, and males are prohibited from holding the highest offices.”
Which doesn’t explicitly say anything one way or the other.

and they most certainly can, hence the word fiction. plus given that there’s possibility for anything in the world to change overnight, completely rewriting science or what have you, its possible in non-fiction as well. but we certainly dont need to delve that far into it, as its quite clear.
