Tried the PTR still doesn’t work for me. I get the “game data unable to load and must be repaired” error. I clicked repair and afterwards I get the same message.
That’s a different error than the Win7 people were getting which suggests the underlying problem is different. That’s further evidenced by a report above that the PTR worked for a Win7 user.
Also, your post about the failed behavior of -graphicsapi Direct3D9 is also different from the other Win7 user. This all points to a different problem.
Since your error is different I’d try deleting and reinstalling. Also back up and then delete your warcraft III user folder (where your map files and config files are stored, usually somewhere in My Documents). This can be a source of that type of error.
Will have to check on a win7 machine to confirm if the PTR patch fixed prevailing issues or not, what we figured was integrated GPUs were not being initialized because of the chromium based blizzardbrower.exe… Samura, actually manged to by pass chromium browser and managed it to start a multiplayer matchup. Game ran completely normal.
I was unsuccessful because test machine had a HD3000 that wouldn’t initialize. So the idea was to force dx3d9 to assess whether bypass was vaible or not.
It’s sounding optimistic. In a post above by Fluffy, they were able to play on the PTR.
There are patch notes that mention win7 and Dx12 command line fixes.
Edit: linked to the patch notes below.
I’ll report back on any progress I make…
I just tried the PTR 2.0.1. It works on windows 7. very good!
Under Bug Fixes, I see a handful of items that I saw you and others talking about here these last several days.
That’s great have fun! I think the noise we made was actually worth while! We need all the players we can get!
So the update is coming that will make the game playable on Win7?
It seems so. we are still waiting for the new patch.
Did this as well. Reinstalled after backing up and deleting the Warcraft III folder in my documents. Same result, same error.
Game has worked fine all these years since 2003.
You have to install Public Test Realm, not the same Warcraft III.
Above the play button there are 2 options.
1.Warcraft III
2.Public Test Realm
You have to select option 2.
I don’t want to install PTR. I will wait for the next patch… I hope that will fix the problem for me.
Okay tested PTR 2.0.1.22439 on a Win7 service pack 2 machine with an integrated GFx intel HD3000 game lunches fine, however mouse pointer isn’t visible, next played around with various different settings, compatibility modes, forcing different Dx3D dlls ( game didn’t launch)
Next, managed to launch a custom game, however asset sprites were mere shadows. Map is drawn normally, and can be explored. FPS is around 59. Apparent directX (d3d11) isn’t rendering quite right.
Did you try PTR ?
the directX version switches afaik do not work anymore.
Try changing the cursor settings in game, as those might use the hardware cursor which should always show.
Hey guys, i’m not the smartest person when it comes to computers but after force updating a few months back i have not been able to play w3. I am using windows 7 (it took me ages to find this information because i am not that smart) which has led me here… I don’t have a clue on whats going on, is this just a wait for a new patch kinda ordeal? or is it something i’d have to take to a computer shop? i don’t understand what people were saying about graphics either…
Wow the game actually starts on PTR and we finally getting the features promised from 4 years ago
NICE JOB!!
Did you test it on windows 7? Also, can you test World Editor?
it’s not just the cursor game assets are missing as well…
