Who cares about a butthurt purist here and there? WC 3 Reforged was also slated as a means for new players to get into the RTS genre, mainly WoW players who want to see the “prequel” of the game they’ve been playing for years.
And no, there simply is no means of arguing against an optional REFORGED campaign if the original remains. It won’t affect that particular purist and that’s like being adverse to change for the sake of being against change.
Where are they getting those numbers from exactly? Most of the people I’ve seen who pre-ordered Reforged did so because of the campaign revisements and everything that it entailed.
I feel like they were vastly overestimating an obtuse group of players, or they simply are scapegoating to meet a 2019 release. Again it explains their radio silence.
I still want to see the poll on this. I admit I liked a lot of the original voices more, but that’s a dumb excuse. The amount of lines in old WC3 was extremely limited. And the stratholm map was proof they could do a good job.
Even if I disagree with a lot of your sentiments on the situation, I just want the best game for everybody. That means the campaign that I pre-ordered for with most of its revised features intact, not for half of it to end up on the chopping block.
I’m really hoping when the game is released that the campaign will still be worth it to play through over that of Warcraft 3’s, though by then I fear I can no longer get a refund.
I want the same as you, for the record. I think we just differ in our approach to the situation.
Besides… I think this current approach is better because it stands a lesser chance of causing brain hemmhorages in the purists. I’m looking at it as a best-of-both-worlds kind of compromise.
It’s not strictly – for – the WC 3 purists though. They mentioned on a lot of occasions they want to bring new players to the RTS genre, and clearly it was with that idea in mind that they intended to revise the campaign.
Scrapping all that because “insert magical amount of players here love the original voices too much” does leave one to wonder if that’s just bullsh!t to meet a 2019 release or if they were just far too ambitious at their 2018 presentation and want to save face this way.
Then I wish they would own up to it instead of masking it with PR jibber jabber.
I would have no problems with this at all if Reforged was advertised as a remaster of Warcraft 3 with a new graphics engine and WoW accurate maps. But now we’re in an ugly situation where they cut Reforged’s most promising features in half instead and left an unattractive mess that differs very little from the original campaigns.
Anyway I said about all I wanted to on the situation. I really doubt they’re going to change their minds at the risk of delaying the game, even though they could just take my idea of releasing with full MP functionality and patching in the new campaign later.
They’re a publicly-traded corporation. They’re not going to do that.
Honestly I disagree about the additional content being a “promising feature.” To be honest I’m not a fan of most of the sh!t WoW puts out story-wise these days.
I’d personally hate that. I didn’t buy this game to be forced into playing only multiplayer for any amount of time.
I’m a single-player kind of guy. Even in melee mode.
