The PTR is an older build of war3. It’s not one they can push to production.
It’s unclear what resources are behind the game currently, but I don’t expect a fix for this.

there could be something in January when the nexxt season starts, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
it depends on who owns the company. if microsoft`s purchase is approved, the game will likely get more money. i just tested the game on my laptop. the menu ran very slowly, while the game ran well. it did use 3 gigabytes of ram however. i have 32 gigabytes. it somehow failed to detect my hardware and set everything on low. i set everything on the highest and it woked well. my hardware varies, as i have several different pc. my current main pc have intel core i7-4700mq and gtx 770m.
About “the menu ran very slowly”, you can try set/lower MAXIMUM FPS to equal your monitor’s refresh rate, like 60 even 64, since Classic War3 (before Reforged or a certain version)'s maximum fps was capped at 64 and this value provides some leeway (depends on circumstances, sometimes set to 60 could make actual fps fluctuate between 57.X-59.X, slightly below 60).
As for high refresh rate monitor, you can refer to the above setting to leave some margin on the value of the MAXIMUM FPS (slightly higher than monitor’s refresh rate).
If the screen is stuttering, set Vsync on.
my monitor have a maximum refresh rate of 144 while my laptop`s max is 120.
Windows 11, AMD RYZEN 5 7600x, 7800 xt , 32g RAM, 3440 x 1440 resolution
Live 50-60 FPS
PTR- 190-210 FPS
Make sure “reduce mouse lag” is unchecked, as this makes the problem a lot worse. Doing that got my fps back up to like 75-80% of that of the PTR
tbh, the lack of urgency here sucks. It’s been MONTHS and I haven’t been able to play more than 5 minutes before the game crashes. The fact that this wasn’t fixed ASAP is alarming, and I somehow feel jipped out of the game twice now. Once at release, and now when the lure of a good patch in May hit, only to be followed up by one that completely made the game unplayable for me… what the heck?!
AMD Ryzen 5950x
RTX 3080
AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-Core Processor (16 CPUs)
I play on the old graphics, and since patch 1.36 problems with fps started, in patch 1.35 fps was 300, now it’s 30. why make crooked patches?
Developers, if your hands are growing in the wrong place, just roll back the game to patch 1.35. The problem is already half a year old! You are not doing anything!
Plan to scrap, but 5950X is also 30fps,lmao
Well the lack of urgency is mainly becuase it’s Blizzard we’re talking about.
That being said: in most cases, lower FPS is not a game ending situation. And this issue can be mitigated by better hardware. I’m not saying that it’s a reasonable solution, but the impact of this issue can vary a lot depending on your system. For me, it’s like 100 FPS instead of 150, and there’s no stuttering, probably because I have tons of RAM and a fast SSD. So it’s inconvenient but not “unplayable.” on a min requirements system though, it may make the difference between playable and not.
“Your mileage may vary.” as they say. Personally though, as a game dev, while I would probably actually work on the issue unlike Blizzard, lower-than-expected FPS is not a super urgent issue unless it’s completely wrecking the entire game, like single digit FPS (or really, less than 30)
However, the problem here, again, isn’t that it’s not being treated as an urgent issue, it’s that htere’s essentially nobody working on it at all, much less at a low priority.
Don’t make such nonsense anymore, develop a key changing function and quick casting as soon as possible!
I have 32gb of RAM and an M2 nvme this has nothing to do with that, I have a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and the game runs like a$$ on latest patch (25-30 fps) with stutters every 5 seconds, on ptr I get like 100fps, I think this is a bug related to how the CPU communicates with the GPU as I noticed my gpu usage stays at 1% most of the time.
First: Check your “Reduce Mouse lag” option in the settings. Make sure it’s NOT checked, th is absolutely tanks framerate on most modern systems. While I (Ryzen 9 7900X 4.7gHz / AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT) am seeing an FPS reduction from the PTR, it is nowhere near as dramatic as you. Originally I thought I wasn’t even affected by this issue, but it turns out I had the Reduce Mouse Lag option enabled on the PTR and not on Live. Turning it off on the PTR increased my FPS there significantly, so I was able to confirm the performance difference. There are no “stutters” at all for me though, the FPS is consistent during play- lower than the PTR version, but consistent. No hitching or stuttering. So I suspect you have a resolvable issue on your end.
Check your options, make sure reduce mouse lag is unchecked, and let me know if your performance improves. There will still be a difference between the PTR and live, but it should not be as drastic as you’re describing. I’m seeing maybe a 15-20% performance difference. but it was more like 50% when I had the option enabled on live. Turning it off makes a huge difference (and really, the impact on input lag is negligible- this option should really be removed entirely)
to how the CPU communicates with the GPU as I noticed my gpu usage stays at 1% most of the time.
No. This game has never fully utilized your GPU. Especially on classic mode, it basically doesn’t use it at all- the classic graphics are incredibly simple by today’s standards and even software rendering today is better than the graphics cards of 15-20 years ago. This isn’t new with Reforged or the latest patch. If you are on Classic mode, your GPU basically doesn’t matter. Reforged mode does use it more (but never seems to fully utilize it).
This is not related to the performance issues people are having, and even those people who aren’t noticing the issue will still have the same/similar levels of GPU utilization.
Did I see it right that in 1.36.1 this bug is not tackled? Why can that not be fixed. Please revert the belonging changes here to 1.35 (last PTR before 1.36.1) and then update to 1.36.1 again without touching the CPU/GPU config from 1.35
There was a fix in the hotfix patch that improved performance for some users, but many are still affected. There hasn’t been another patch since.
I don’t like to say this, but it doesn’t seem like it should be a difficult fix. We have two actively playable versions of the game, and one of the performs way better than the other. It shouldn’t be a big ordeal to identify the differences- they have to lie in the relatively small amount of changes that were made between versions.
Edit: Holy man, I’ve been a massive dum dum. there was actually a new update today. I thought we were still talking about the version that’s been up for months at this point lol. I guess I need to actually try it before I make a fool of myself.
Edit2: My FPS on the PTR is higher than it’s ever been, including the previous PTR version. So it may be addressed even though nothing is listed in the patch notes. Have you tried it yet?
Great job Blizz! Now you have managed to destroy performance on the PTR as well. The very start of “The Defense of Strahnbrad” with Reforged graphics was stuttery mess at around 60 fps on Live, smooth 200 fps on PTR. It is still stuttery mess at around 60 fps on Live, but on PTR it’s now inconsistent 130 fps with frequent stutters.
Just… how…? I have no words…
I’ve downloaded pirated 1.35.0.19887 to test, and guess what? It works perfectly fine, fast and smooth.
Actually I do have words for you. Two words.
yes,
in 1.35 you have 300fps
but 1.36 you only have 120fps
so,1.36 is bullsh-it
