Campaign's nonsensicality and changes (MEGA-THREAD)

I always thought dragons were too similar.

Reskins except the netherdrake

Even the whelps are just rescaled reskins

Theres no real identity/uniqueness

I do hope they go out of their way and giving each dragonflight a unique look. Though, even in WoW, all the dragons are literal recolors of each other.

I wish they had unique visual traits among them from the beginning, like maybe Bronze dragons have curved, ram-like horns, and green dragons have large fins, and blue dragons could have wispy beards or fur. Stuff like that.

Chromie is one of the few who has a unique dragon look.

Yes, everything in Warcraft 3 is oversized and cartoony. But in Reforged, everything is even more oversized and stylised, proportions really are over the top.
Just compare tauren classic version and Reforged version.
Classic:

Reforged:

See how gigantic Reforged weapon is, compared to the classic version?

It’s just my opinion, but I really think the sword is ugly  It doesn’t look like a sword, in my opinion. The crossguard is anything but a crossguard. I’m sorry, my poor English skills are failing me here and I can’t even find words to describe how uncanny this sword appears to me.

I also feel a DC Comics or Marvel vibe from many Reforged models, and a bit of manga style too. I don’t like any of those styles to be honest. I don’t understand why every unit should have a heroic feel. But more importantly, none of them looks like any other Warcraft game. As I said before, it seems Reforged is introducing a new style to the universe, again, and it really bothers me (WoW might have got some of this comics/manga style too now, but I’m not familiar with the most recent development of WoW)

I agree about the fact our eyes work differently from one person to another, but I keep thinking that it can be achieved without using disturbingly weird proportions. If they reduce the size of those pauldrons, I’m pretty sure you’ll find a new way to spot footmen in the battlefield, and maybe a more efficient way.
Your suggestion about a more shiny design is interesting. I’m not a big fan of shiny models, but I’d like it a lot more than the current Reforged version.

I don’t know about that. We haven’t got any news for almost 6 months, what else can we do? We don’t have anything else to base our feedback from. If we wait more, it will definitely be too late.
If it’s not already too late. But in that case, I hope Blizzard will have the courtesy to tell us so we don’t waste our time.

want to say something, people have different tastes…
And different perceptions of different things…

Imo reforged proportions are not cartoony enough xD
Model silhouette, shapes, details, look too realistic…

Imo footman proportions look realistic, with oversized armor put on top…

In some way, yes. Either go for realism, either go full cartoony; but the current design is somewhere in-between. It’s not well balanced imho.

Yes, THAT… it feels somewhere in between…

Imo this could have been a perfect “style” for reforged…

Simple, yet effective… true to wc3 GAME models, and wc3 concept arts and cinematics…

But there’s no turning back now…

I don’t think it’s ever ‘too late’, but at the same time I don’t think anyone will ever get the results they are expecting with feedback.

Like I stated above with examples of War3, the only feedback that lead to change was Illidan’s swastika and Chen’s outfit. I don’t think we’re going to get drastic changes to footmen and Arthas, maybe just some tweaks here and there.

SC2 was sorta like that too. There was a lot of feedback on the graphics, but for the most part Blizzard pretty much redid the entire game’s look by the time it came out. I’m just hoping we’re seeing things right now are early alpha, where they haven’t color corrected and haven’t put a polish pass over everything yet. SC2 alpha was like a cartoon before they desaturated everything and made it look more like Starcraft.

Well done Triceron
I think your footman model nailed pretty nicely Warcraft 3’s style. I wish Reforged could go for that kind of design, though at this point, it’s definitely too late for that.

Probably not, but it’s worth trying
Probably not for drastic changes, but some tweaks here and there could do wonders.

Worst case scenario is make custom models thwn input into campaign.

Or blizzard releasing post patch texture pack or update.

or make custom models…
shameless plug
x_https://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/33/32696/1render1.jpg

and make a mod that replaces the models for entire game xD

Honestly that’s the way to go.

If I have the time, my efforts are going in to adding units and changing models to how I want to see em. War3 is my sandbox, and Reforged is giving me a bunch of shiny new models and a brand new set of tools to work with.

Man, I really want to see those Kelp Ancients walking around Sunken Ruins in Reforged now…

Reforged could go triceron footman or swarog (orapa666) footman. Both have a moral and art weight.
I would go cinematic footman and its proportions (more closely to orapas footman) . Reforged footman is total failure trying to immitate cinematic model. They should remake model from begining totally

Footman is one of rare wc3 models where i would skip original wc3 model cause i find his dwarfy proportions are not that good for this model…

Speaking a man who generally doesnt generally support thin-thick proportions for RTS and hating uther base naked proportions with marshmellow shoulder pads oversized and such a stuff…

Yeah would be cool…
Though i really have mixed feelings about how sunken ruins (suramar?) should look like in reforged…

I love the old wc3 art for it, tho after years of playing wow cant stop but think of stranglethorn ruins…
I like how suramar in wow looks like, but still, old wc3 style was something else…

Anyway, people have probably said that many times xD i didnt read all the stuff on here

I still have no idea what this means.

I think they will have to make it look like Warcraft 3 tileset because all maps will be converted 1:1 to be playable with the old ones. That means they need to keep some consistent look so that old maps don’t suddenly become entirely different like WoW Suramar.

well i did some “test models” for the mod (replacing all wc3 assets with new “hd” ones) basicly using suramar wow style doodads, recolored to fit older color scheme of sunken ruins…
And retextured some to have more rustic “aztec” look…

Maybe that would work… but idk because i wasn’t really impressed at how it turned out…
