Starcraft freezes on macOS Catalina

My Starcraft Remastered worked perfectly on Mojave. But since I upgraded to Catalina a few days ago (with all Apple automatic OS update installed), the games does not work. It freezes for 2-5 seconds after each period of 10-20 seconds, and the mouse became the colorful circle (meaning loading).

In multiplayer games, it seems other players are all delayed when I freeze.

I have looked at postings about similar issues in other Blizzard games (like SC2), but was not able to find a viable solution.

My computer:
macOS 10.15.3 (19D76)
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)
2.6 GHz 6 core Intel Core i7
16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
GPU1: Intel UHD Graphics 630
GPU2: Radeon Pro 560X

Thanks a lot!

Same thing here, MacBook Pro 2018 (2.9GHz 6 core i9)
macOS 10.15.4

Same here. The performance on macOS is terrible. It doesn’t feel smooth at all.

macOS 10.15.4
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)
2.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris 1536 MB

I am also having the problem on my MacBook Pro, Catalina 10.15.4 (19E287).

Any thoughts on a solution would be great.

Similar, only at the 10-30 min mark.

MacOS Sierra 10.12.6
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)
2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

I have same problem, not fixed yet?

Thank you for your reports! It looks like this is mostly happening on Intel graphics or switchable graphics to Radeon. We’re tracking other games experiencing freezing issues with Radeon graphics and there’s been some specific issues with Intel graphics on Catalina. I’m getting tracking up for the freezing in SC1/SCR. Please continue to include the model details!

@MissScarlet, this is a different issue than the ones reported here. This is a driver bug with Intel HD 3000 cards on Sierra (10.12.6), updating to High Sierra (10.13.6) should resolve the issue.

freezing problem after recent patch update. freeze did not happen in the previous patch but it all came back. can’t play anymore :frowning:

My game pinwheeled at the startup screen. While troubleshooting a battery drain issue I discovered that Parallels Toolbox was spawning runaway processes that were eating all my CPU cycles. Killed all the processes and deleted Toolbox. Game now runs. Check Activity Monitor to see if you’re running into the same issue.

Same. I’m having the same problem where campaign stutters every 2-3 seconds, making navigating the map a complete pain and almost unplayable. It got a little bit better when I turned off “real time lighting” but the program still stuttered.

I have very similar specs to you. With the latest game patch, I’m running:
OS Catalina
MacBook Pro 15 inch (2017)
3.1 GHz Quad-Core Intel i7
16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3 RAM
Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Radeon Pro 560

Does anyone have any other fixes that can improve gameplay or do we just have to wait for a patch that actually fixes this problem?

@slinsanity, there’s no workaround to the freezing issue to our knowledge. Hopefully, someone else may be able to provide some insight if they were able to find a work around.

We’ve seen similar issues with our other games on Catalin, which may be tied to the reports here. Our team have been notified of the issue and investigating for a resolution. At this time, there’s currently no ETA on the issue, but I’ll update here when we have more information!

Edit: A possible workaround has been identified. Does this work for anybody?

Is there a fix yet? Same issue here.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
2,9 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB

To be clear, the game is unplayable.

The issue is as described. In-game 3 seconds of play followed by 20 seconds of freeze. Happened after upgrade to Catalina.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
2.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Mac OS 10.15.4
StarCraft 1.23.3.8122

I also collected logs using LogGoblin App and save my system report but given you do not allow links here I will try to send through another medium.
