I noticed a lot of HIGH ranked players (masters and even some low level gm’s) actually dont know 2v2 meta.
When you see mech/phoenix, don’t go ling/bling/muta, I don’t care if you’re a 300 apm GM zerg in 1v1, it won’t work.

Inexperience. Team games require a different way of approaching the game than 1v1 does.
What you’re describing isn’t an issue with them not understanding 2v2 meta because every GM player knows which comps are ideal against what. Trust me, no GM player will have issues with diamond level 3v3 games.
executing 1v1 build orders/comps actually works well in 3v3 and 4v4.
2v2 is a beast of its own.
Why don’t 2s players understand that 2s ladder is casual, for fun, and meaningless when it comes to gauging skill?
Yea because 3v3 often devolves into a game where a 1v1 is going on next to a 2v2. You can blame the maps for that.
Because diamond league players like yourself have zero understanding of what high level 2v2 actually is.
EDIT: And no, your less than 50% win rate in 1v1 does not make you a master level player.
I agree. The strategies needed in 2v2 are so different. It doesn’t matter if you harass one teammate to death, if the other can come over at attack you and your teammate and all you have to defend with is a small force. Different comps also work differently. Mass marines (with a few medivacs) work great in 2v2 with a teammate, which would be a hard comp to pull off in a 1v1.
Also, 2v2 is just as competitive as 1v1 in many ways. Same game, just 2 more players.
Right, the game put me in master many times now starting in wol but you decide whether it’s valid or not based on my win rate this season hahaha. #toxic
No i’m just addressing the fact before you bring it up. You’re making the argument that high level 2v2 isn’t comparable to 1v1. Fact of the matter is, you wouldn’t last two seconds in 4.8k+ 2v2 because it’s way harder than playing 1v1.
“Fact of the matter” yes let’s throw around your little opinions as if they are facts. The real facts are that there are no serious 2v2 tournaments. No gm ladder, and the game is not balanced around it. Those are actual facts. The things you claim to be facts are your biased opinions and considering you are only ranked in teams, your bias is very obvious.
But go ahead say whatever you need to say to make you feel good about your meaningless 2s rank regardless of how toxic it is.
You’re talking to someone who won one of the only 2v2 tournaments that actually meant anything in starcraft: PTSL Season 2
That said, i’ve accomplished far more than you ever will in this game, and i’ve made it a career for the last 10 years streaming on twitch.
I’m so f****** sick and tired of seeing posts like this, because all it does it ruin the growth of the game.
You realize that every other game on the market that’s popular is a team game? Don’t you think your attitude is part of the reason why this game doesn’t have the player base it could?
You just neglect the value of teams in starcraft because of your sheepish viewpoint of elitism because 99% of the content you watch is 1v1 related.
Quit being a sheep.
How much 2v2 have you played? I’ve been playing 2v2 for about 5 years now ( diamond ), I am ranked diamond in 1v1, and I definitely have experienced a difference between 1v1 and 2v2. Ya wanna know why 2v2 is harder? Teamwork. It is a whole different skill set needed.
Lol tool.
No one cares about stupid team games. If you need it so much, go play a game designed for team play, duh.
1v1 players tend to view team games as a joke. They don’t really take it seriously and basically try out funny or weird compositions and play in a more relaxed way.
To say 2v2 is harder is ridiculous, considering it is relative to your position on the ladder. If you are against a weaker opponent it’s easy, if you are against a stronger opponent then it’s hard. If you think high mmr 2v2 is more elite than pro mmr 1v1 then why don’t you go ahead and win some 1v1 tournaments? Should be easy for you. Realistically though it’s pretty obvious there are far more 1v1 players that put in an insane level of practice than there are in 2v2, therefore you can say with a high level of confidence that it is harder to get to the top of 1v1 mmr than it is to do the same in 2v2. I don’t doubt that there are some very very good 2v2 players who do take it seriously and are the best at what they do, but at the same time compared to the ultra competitive professional 1v1 scene, it’s gonna be a case of big fish in a small pond.
The majority of 1v1 players are also pretty low rank and shouldn’t voice an opinion of a level that they don’t play at.
Argument from authority logical fallacy. I don’t need to be gm or pro level to realise something so obvious as a competitive professional 1v1 scene being more elite than a hobbyist 2v2. I suspect you just find it a hard pill to swallow that you are not equivalent skill in 2v2 to the best players in 1v1. But there’s no way you could be even if you practised all day every day because the scene itself is lower level so you would never get high enough level games to refine equivalent skills.
Its a fact that 2 vs 2 is not serious. This is coming from someone who also plays team games.
Why do you think esports and tournaments are all 1 v 1?
This thread is getting flamy fast.
1v1 is the most purely competitive mode and the game is mostly balanced arround it.
However that doesnt mean 2v2 isnt serious or that somehow 2v2 is casual.
All the skill you have in 1v1 you kinda need in 2v2(good multitasking, understanding of the game so on),but additionaly to your 1v1 skills you actually need team play skills.
You need to work with your m8,coordinate,anticipate their team’s plans, there is a lot more divide and conquer going on in team games.
The game beeing best balanced for 1v1,means that the 2v2 meta sometimes can be a bit bland and unoptimized, like rushing is way too strong(getting yours and your m8ts armies together fast as possible early game is vital)and the overall timing attacks can be a bit more wierd compared to 1v1.
Both 1v1 and 2v2 sc2 have pretty much infinite skill cap,in both the better team wins, they are just different.
1v1 is a bit more pure, less random and unpredictable, focusing on personal skill above all, where as 2v2 adds the element of team play and coordination, and while skill is still HUGELY important, sometimes 2 weaker players could beat their oponents by simply having better synergy and timing.
Jesus christ everyone, calm down. We’re all playing for fun at the end of the day, we don’t need to start insulting everyone or say something along the lines of
“Your opinion doesn’t match mine perfectly, and so you’re stupid, should kill yourself and your family because you’re so worthless.”
…that’s the impression you guys are giving off and it’s not really all to great.
Now, that aside:
Here’s my opinion:
Disclaimer:
I am, by no means, a professional starcraft player, yes I am m2 in 1v1, and I have reached low masters 2v2, so I believe that gives me a little breathing room with what i’m about to say:
Each gamemode, are difficult in their own regards, and indeed like a few people have brought up, they’re not the same and requires different skills. I’m pretty good at 1v1, yet I often finding myself losing to people who are Platinum / Diamond and I have to sit back and ask “What went wrong, and why?”
Now, the reason I believe this is, is that there are a bunch of DIFFERENT FACTORS that resulted in the outcome of the game, I can play better than either player in these scenarios, but I can’t kill them together as one covers another’s weaker spot.
I don’t see why others can not see the same point, perhaps it’s an underdeveloped sense of criticism towards themself, so that they may find their errors and correct them. Albeit, I will admit, I am only 15 so I don’t really know, but please. I ask you sincerely from my heart and I know you won’t really care and this will most likely be ignored or ridiculed, for which I am fully prepared
Act. Like. Adults.
I play starcraft to escape from my own reality, often which is dealing with many people my age that are substantially less mature, call me an idealist but I don’t really fancy you guys hating each other, why not just get along and enjoy the game? I don’t think you are a bad person, I don’t think many people are, sure; we’ll all have bad days, and sometimes that may reflect on how we act, but we really should come together and treat each other like fellow humans, with empathy? Or is that too much to ask?
Well, I’ve said what I felt I’ve needed to, so I’m off to chill on sc2 now.
Peace!
