Why do people keep playing the same 10 year old game?

Why do people keep playing the same bad game, especially when they whine constantly about how bad it is? There are plenty of games on Steam. In fact there are a bunch of RTS games on steam for like $20. What’s holding you back? Anyone with an IQ above 80 knows balance is FUBAR’d and has identified the extremely repetitive and stale play in SC2, and the designers aren’t going to fix any of that anytime soon. I haven’t seen a new build in probably 2 years for crying out loud and ESL had to practically beg for a new map pool. In its current form, SC2 is definitely the worst game I have ever played.

I just picked up Valheim on steam. It’s a great game. Give it a try. Leave GarbageCraft 2 for the Apetoss players.

I played this game in Wings of Liberty beta in 2010 and I quit after that. Only came back for LotV because someone bought it for me as a gift. That was the only reason I got back into SC2. Played it 2016-2017, quit again, came back again this year out of boredom and because I just wanted to see how the game has changed.

Because there’s literally no other RTS like it. The second there is one, I’ll be switching to it with gusto to get away from OgreToss

No other decent alternatives that cover both base building and army micro. Closest you get is Age of Empires which is slooooow and very, very symmetrical in design which creates dull gamestates…or Total Warhammer 2, which while great has no base building and problems with bad ranged AI. Even then, the general SC2 community is so kneejerky and obtuse that I frequently uninstall the game and play something else for a few months at a time.

Personally I preferred Warcraft III over Wings of Liberty. But they really did a job there recently with Reforged. You mentioned AoE II, these are all different style RTS games and it comes down to a matter of taste.

I’ve got news for you kid, there are literally loads of garbage games so no, SC2 isn’t unique in any way, shape or form. And, it’s only getting worse and worse:

That has to be the single fastest drop in popularity the game’s ever had. It’s now at pre-free-to-play levels of popularity, despite being free to play.

I don’t know if I’d call this game ‘garbage’. But seeing my least favorite faction (Protoss) apparently dominating everything does put me off playing it. At least the Protoss players should be happy.

Because actually, SC2 is the best RTS by far.

Stop lie, during these 2 last years i saw lot of new build orders : from Byun, from Parting, from Lambo, from TY, from Zest, …

So, if you didn’t see new build orders in 2 years you don’t understand this game or you don’t watch this game.

It’s definitely not. I can name a lot of things I enjoyed more in Warcraft III and even Starcraft: Brood War over this game. It’s however a newer game and not so much of a relic of the past.

SC2 has extremely repetitive play and anyone who pays attention will notice it. The people who play it are obsessive and love to spam the same exact build orders on repeat for hours and days and weeks and months and years. Frankly they should consider seeing a psychiatrist because there’s a good chance they are OCD.

When you see drops like that is usually because the API does not work,as it is said on top of the rankedftw page, just look at KR, 329 games in a single day…don’t you thing thats strange?.

Its pretty unique,is a fast game that has a pretty low amount of specialized units, its played on a close up point of view and the maps arr pretty small.
You compare these points to other games and you will notice that there is no other game like starcraft 1/2, is the best at that style of game.

Blizzard isn’t even maintaining the API and letting all the websites built on it hang out to dry. Case in point. SC2 is a terrible game. Blizzard knows it isn’t even worth the time to fix a few small bugs in their API.

Where are the moderators? Why they allow some demented scum to badmouth and try to damage one of their products?
Who forced under the point of a gun this idiot to play SC2?
It’s time to clean house form the rat infestation!

Very good question. I’m sure that a company that cares about their product could pay someone to do proper moderation, maybe even post polite responses to users’ concerns on the forum. You know, normal things that the maintainers of a forum do, instead of letting things turn into a toxic troll fiesta.

I bet you are bellow Master level.

Grandmaster with all three races, Code S level mmr with Zerg, kid. At least when I actually played the game.

I’m probably older than you, don’t be calling your elders kids.

This is all just inflammatory, trolling nonsense.

Of course! The RTS genre is pretty diverse, ranging from Total War games to AoE II to Grey Goo (lol) to StarCraft.

StarCraft just doesn’t have a competitor for it’s niche within the genre.
