SC2 has gotten really boring and stale and no balance change is going to change anything. I really like BeastyQTs idea about rotating campaign and SC1 units into the meta every 4-6 months. New strategies are not being developed and everything is being reduced to all-ins. I’d even up it and suggest we also rotate back in old WOL and HOTS ladder maps so we can see how strategies have changed overtime, especially since the last few map pools have been atrocious.
You confuse “fun” with adding new random crap every time. Not only is that fickle, it’s a balance nightmare.
You don’t change basketball every year to make it more “new and exciting” for the people who obviously don’t like it.
You are absolutely right. You have to acknowledge Sc2 is the victim of it’s own position though. It’s the only relevant game in what is (let’s be honest) a dead RTS genre. Blizzard has always felt pressure that the survival of their game has depended on the Koreans, the pros, and the hardcore community. So they feel they owe it to them to keep things extremely stable balance wise because of the fervent focus on the competitive aspect, and to push it as an E-Sport. Therefore they never really get to make super ambitious changes or injections into the game to keep it fun and interesting. Whenever they try they get a very vocal majority (everyone around since the massive 2012 decline are the hardcore players) screaming at them for ruining balance, or changing too much of WCS system which causes Foreigner vs Korean factions to throw up their arms in rage. In reality Blizzard doesn’t owe any of these people anything. It’s not their responsibility to keep funding and catering to an unnecessary/illegitimate sector of passion jobs for pro players, casters, and content creators. They are the ones who chose to rely on combustible jobs, it’s their job to adapt to their environment, not the other way around.
You ever notice how RTS games are BY FAR the most fun when they are brand new and filled with volatile/overpowered units? There is always massive buzz, excitement, and fun to be had in playing a game with cool new stuff that nobody knows how to use. Notice how StarCraft ALWAYS had it’s peak player/viewer count and interest around each beta and huge design change patches they made in LotV. Also notice how despite being objectively worse games, LoL and Dota have managed to avoid that same 80% player decline that Sc2 had, because they CONSTANTLY introduce new, broken, interesting hero’s into the game and balance LATER.
FUN FIRST - BALANCE LATER
Ironically StarCraft would have always been better off if Blizzard just ignored the community and did whatever they wanted on a whim. It would have meant more viewers = more money.
The worst part is the hardcore community are righteously convinced of their authority and correctness because they live in a vacuum where everyone agrees with them. OF COURSE THEY DO, BECAUSE THERE ARE NO CASUAL PLAYERS LEFT LOL.
It’s so sad but funny watching all these people complain and fight each other for scraps while leeching off this corpse. They have the audacity to view Day9 and Husky as “traitors” with no passion, when really it’s just that those guys sniffed out the blaring issues before anyone else and jumped ship.
remember that classic map pool that was put years ago,it ended being fun the first days and terrible the rest.
You can call the game imbalanced, and compare Blizzard to Hitler or Stalin, but it’s not boring. If you think that, you’re missing the point, and the game is probably not for you anyway.
New players are drafted into basketball every year. And the best players move to new teams. League dynamics change every year
Systematically the game is fun. But as far as build diversity it isnt. There are units that are never built and strategies that are useless in most match ups. Who is comparing anything to Hitler and stalin?
Agree. For me, it’s same as years ago… Zerg. Queens shouldn’t be able to beat everything in the game, let alone… easily… Queens manhandling tier 3 units, at less supply… and then broodlord, viper adding insult to injury in the late game.
It was imbalanced and boring years ago. Enough man… give other races a chance.
Sigh…
New players join every sport every year, yes… but the sport remains the same(for the majority of the time) and only those playing it change with time.
What you’re asking is not for new players to join teams, but for the NBA to make random stupid adjustments to how the game is played periodically, simply because you don’t like the game.
If you need “new” things all the time, you simply don’t like the game and you have a very fickle mindset towards it, which is fine really.
But in that case it makes more sense to not play something you find boring(I don’t) than being absurdly selfish and ask that it constantly changes to possibly keep you interested.
by your logic why did we ever add adepts, cyclones, vipers, etc. to the game? I don’t see why adding new units and removing other ones from the game for a season would be bad. Plenty of time for the meta to settle. And honestly the pro scene wouldn’t change much. The best players will adjust to the new additions.
Also professional sports change over time. I dont watch the NBA but I can tell you the NHL has changed alot since the 80’s , 90’s and to the present times.
While I don’t think we need to rotate units. I think that would get convoluted because By the time we got something semi balanced it would be time to rotate units again. I do think we need some shake up. I think blizzard needs to abandon the “Get things as close to balanced as possible” and look to expand strategies. I do think we still have room for at least 1 new unit per race. I also think units like the swarm host, the colossus, the void ray, the reaper, and the banshee could use some tweaking. That would help shake things up.
The current expansion is boring. I miss the old days
They where added to justify the purchase of an expansion plus to attempt to fill in design voids.
It has the bonus effect of entertaining fickle players as well, for a brief period of time, and then they go back to asking for random “new” stuff( i.e. you).
It’s highly debatable that the addition of trash units like tempests, adepts, SHs, cyclones, etc did anything good for the game even. Quite the opposite.
unit rotation from coop is just a bad idea.
LotV is boring, that true.
coop unit variants tend to be slightly overbuffed/via commander stat buffs.
you have units like wraith … with higher hp than BW from 120 to like 150.
Firebats from SC2 campaign
goliaths that shoot both ground and air. Slow AG RoF
campaign ghosts that shoot basically almost as far as in SC1 from bunker
dragoon is a bit overbuffed in coop, but it bodyblocks itself.
reaver
small bunkers
science vessels
bigger cruisers
vultures
AA-only liberators (valkyries wannabe)
devourers
guardians
corsair
scout
what did I forget?
Anyway, changing these to fit the new pvp ? Hardly gonna happen.
the truth I think all this is because you do not take the game from a stoic point of view rests the fun from external points, and not from the control of your skills. I am not a good player but I have a lot of fun trying new strategies even if you don’t stop, why? Because they are personal challenges, I do not care if they beat me, but if I did, it is something like imposing achievementslike avoid casualties. using only one type of unit, 39/
try do work the micro of a unit is the most entertaining competition against oneself to say or BC op baneling op skills only matters to me if you don’t match lore
Blizzard is cancer, nerf protoss economy, buff colossus, nerf lurker and ravager and revert banne hp buff and revert queen range, delete sh. Wow game is playable again and fun ! Add more strategy to the game, you do same s hit ever game, game is not even playable for terran, terran = autoloss…
One days its Zerg the next its Terran… We get it bro, you wish you had won GSL with Protoss and it never worked out
Protoss doesn’t win anything dip s. Here’s the difference between Zerg and Terran. Zerg: 150 mineral unit beats anything you can make. Terran: 150/150 unit beats anything you can make.
Zerg has been allowed this absurdity to persist since HotS. Terran since LotV. At the end of the day, Protoss is playing for last place… and every 10 year old that plays Zerg is a “prodigy.” Noregret… he’s totally better than your average GM. One day, he might even learn how to hotkey a unit.
The game is played out. Truth is too obvious. Everyone should be aware of their own limitations and the ceiling of the race they play by now. Only ones that are clueless would be you and the balance team.
Wow nerf protoss nerf zerg. Terran stays the same how fun new exciting. Gtfo with your terran tears. This is a thread about an interesting idea beasty brought up. Go spread your terran whine in every other thread
