Stetlag™ Feedback

I write this review prematurely since I have reached the end of my patience playing Stetmann as he is unplayable as it is now for outdated PCs like mine.

What I’ve experienced so far:

Pros:

  • Very strong early economy due to Stetfields.
  • Good support choices for ally.
  • Units are unique and strong in their own way
  • Has a lot of army diversity

Cons:

  • What makes him strong is also what causes Stetlag™, his Stetfield when deployed at critical mass numbers.
  • Units triggering multiple Egonergy based abilities at the same time also contribute a lot more making the game run in stop motion.
  • Some units are so egonergy dependent (i.e. mecha battlecarrierlords), not having JUICE field on at all times is army breaking.

To be honest, I love Stet partners because they give my super-expensive Tychus machine the minerals and gas to get more upgrades much earlier on. I also like being able to Medivac to almost anywhere on the map due to the satellites being everywhere.

The lag needs to be removed, though. For me, I am fortunate enough to be only affected a tiny bit. I am a little surprised as many people play him as he is, simply because it sounds liek the lag is horrible.

Yeah, I’m a little hesitant to play him. I feel bad if I’m the one causing all the lag. Shame too, cause he’s right up my alley.

Suggestions:

  1. Rework his mecha swarm energy requirements by giving them the Zarya treatment. Make most of their abilities passive (since most work like passive abilities anyway like hardened shields, hydra missiles, etc.) but only work while they have egonergy instead of consuming egonergy directly. Mecha Zerg outside of a Stetfield will gradually lose egonergy until 0 when they can no longer use any abilities.

  2. Rework Stetfield visual effect. Either add a toggle to turn it on or off for a choice of maximum or minimum visibility. I think experienced players and partners would learn to appreciate a small outline in the long run. I still keep getting caught trying to warp in a structure thinking that the FAST field was a power field. This may be overstepping but making stetillites invincible once deployed and increasing their AoE would cut down on the lag (AND the NOISE) as well, a fair trade off would be a longer setup time.

Actually I don’t get much lag when playing with a Stetmann unless they decide to mass infestors then it’s stop motion gaming all over again.

I kinda enjoyed lvl up this commander but every time I’m getting paired with him now I’m getting fed up with this lag issue.

I prefer Tychus or Zeratul as allies instead.

I also feel this commander is a clown that makes Coop feel like a circus. Such wasted chance to have a more relevant and serious commander like Dr Hanson just bc smb decided it was fun.

With the amount of feedback even after a patch, I think they’ll look into it. And I hope they’ll decided to change it.

At this point, I feel like the same things have been said so many times that it’s obvious. Not to minimize what’s said but I think only time can tell.

Keeping in mind the upcoming Amon buff could throw everything in a loop. Any hopeful changes to Stetmann may need to be re-thought, so to speak to refit their viability.

I do hope they rework him soon. Technically I’ve spent $5 on a commander I can’t even play. But I’d like to think that it’s a timed deposit for now.

Fix for the Stetlag™: Soon™
But really, i hope it would not take a long time to fix it.
In the mean time, i’m currently using ultralisks or BCLs to play stetmann if i can get away with it, just to reduce the Stetlag™.

This reminds me a lot of the troubleshooting I see going on in SC2 tech support forums. SC2 on whole takes a lot out of your system if you have your shaders and shadows on max. Shadow calculation naturally lags, when taking into consideration Stetmanns units and his stetellites that is a lot going on there. Professional players tend to play on normal-low settings or at least custom settings that allow for unit, skill, and area identification and nothing above that.

Don’t get me wrong, I play for eye candy. My system is rocking that RTS and I usually run maxxed everything in every game I play. But even I tend to lower my shaders and shadows for improved speed towards my macros which depend on low millisecond respond rates.

Granted Stet himself has lag generating units, heck his design as a whole produces lag. They are addressing it however, I have noticed a change when amassing maxed out infesters (cough)

Still sad that Ling/Hydra comps lag so hard. It’s probably the Stetellites or the Lings, but good lord man… He’s an interesting commander to tinker around with, but I actively avoid playing him because of the lag he can cause. Makes me feel bad for my partners.

battlecarrierlords simply suck

umn the Positive is once you get the lagging infestor going, your Allies can freeze all game & afk o.o -Evil Laughs-

Really? All mines seem to do is get that 50 sec counter going then be thrown out.
-“Maniacal laugh, maniacal laugh!”-

Even you have a pretty strong computer like my gt75, stetmann still lags, because he is not optimized :frowning: I run new game like Shadow of Tomb Raider max setting smootly, but StarCraft co op still lag especially when you have Stetman and Stukov

Part of the issue I think is also the specifications of your ally’s computer. The smoothness requires all parties to have more than suped up computer power.

Anyone who’s played Arcade, PvP, or Coop will noticed sometimes it’s not just your own. It’s your teammate’s lag as well.

So basically, this Mecha Infestor/Steglag problem isn’t just about “get a better computer scrub” kind of issue. I mean I guess unless everyone somehow magically can purchase the latest hardware. Meanwhile, I hope the team can further look into alleviating this problem.

It’s also possible your CPU is throttling. Even DTR laptops have that problem when pushing both GPU & CPU. So it’s unlikely you’d be running at max single core.

BTW, new games can use multiple cores, which makes a big difference. Plus MMO often demand a lot more CPU than local single-player.

It also may be a network issue, because when I have lags with Stetmann, I always see high ping values (200ms+). And sometimes I have a game with almost no lags and ping is low (<50ms). I will try tweak some system settings like default TCP buffer sizes and see if something changes.

Edit: Didn’t see any significant changes, seems like I need a better computer.

I don’t really care why my laptop can’t not run SC2 smoothly.
Blizzard better update the game engine, like Riot did with LoL, otherwise, they will have to make StarCraft 3 or people will just build the lastest consoles for $400 and ditch pc games
