Sound won't playback on sony wh-1000xm4

Headphone connected to PC via bluetooth, it shows two devices,

  1. Headphones (WH-1000XM4 Stereo)
  2. Headset (WH-1000XM4 Hands-free AG Audio)

While all other computer application has no problem playback on any of the device.
Startcraft II won’t playback on Headphones (WH-1000XM4 Stereo), if I choose this or default from Options/Sound/Output Device, there would be no sound at all.

Starcraft II can playback on Headset (WH-1000XM4 Hands-free AG Audio), however, since that device is optimized for voice, game sound effect is weird over that device

I have another sony headset, WI-1000, which Starcraft II has no problem playback on that one

I’m having this problem as well.

Try this.

Same issue aswell but with Sony MDR-XB50BS wireless bluetooth. I was able to fix those issues at some point but wasn’t able to remember how I did it. It was related I think to the Microphone, I can’t remember much will reply here if I got it to work.

I had the same issue with wh1000xm4. I had to disable wh-1000xm4 hands free AG audio at all at the sound control panel (recording tab), after that the sound worked fine

aha! If disabling it doesn’t work like CaelmBledd said, try disconnecting it, then disable it, that worked for me.

I disabled/disconnected the handsfree in the “recording” tab, that worked for a day, then I tried to disconnect/disable the handsfree in the playback tab of the control panel, and so far that’s been working.

Had the same issue with my new XM4. I think the root cause is the microphone.
The Headphones provide two devices: Stereo output and hands-free garniture (both output and mic). According to what Sony says, they can’t be used at the same time: when the microphone is active, the “Stereo” device doesn’t play sound.
I’m not able to turn off the mic in SC2 (here is a confirmation it is not possible), so the only workaround is to disable the microphone globally in the system so that the Headphones are never in Hands-free mode: Win+i, Privacy, Microphone, and then toggle “allow apps to access your microphone” off.

Disabling microphone no longer works for me on Windows 11.
Also not a solution - SC2 should not use microphone at all, especially now with the Voice menu option hidden

EDIT: what did work for me was disabling the headset in Device Manager. Still just a workaround and not a solution though

Damn, I was looking for this solution for several months. Disable mic globally did the trick. Thank you dkrot!
